While the world mourns the loss of Espn anchor Stuart Scott, Et's Kevin Frazier shares his personal memories of his close friend and former co-worker.
Frazier and Scott's friendship spanned more than two decades, with the pair working alongside each other for two of those years. In that time, Frazier watched Scott become a groundbreaking broadcaster with catchphrases like "Boo-ya" that became a part of America's sports vernacular. At Super Bowl Xliv in Miami, Scott showed what made him a great sports anchor.

Updated: Blame the blackout?
Sunday’s Super Bowl showdown between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers game couldn’t score the ultimate ratings touchdown.
Super Bowl Xlvii delivered 108.4 million viewers. That makes last night’s game the third most-watched program in U.S. history, down 3 percent from last year’s record-holding championship telecast.
The viewership does not include the roughly 34 minutes of airtime where game play was suspended due to the Superdome’s much-mocked power outage. Ratings increased steadily throughout the telecast, then dipped during the partial stadium blackout. After play resumed, viewership climbed to new heights, peaking from 10:30-10:45 Pm,...

CBS announced last week that freshman series Elementary, which airs Thursday nights, will air an episode after Super Bowl Xlvii on Feb. 3.
The procedural, starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu as the mystery-solving duo of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, averages 14.2 million viewers per episode and has already received a full season.
This coveted post-Super Bowl spot usually gives shows a major boost in the ratings, as the game attracts record-size audiences and viewers are likely to stick around to see what follows. It’s certain CBS hopes for the same with Elementary.
This year, NBC’s Super Bowl Xlvi — the New York Giants vs. the New England Patriots — surpassed the ratings of last year’s game (Fox’s Super Bowl Xlv, 111 million viewers), becoming the most-watched telecast in U.S. TV history by scoring 111.3 million viewers. The telecast also garnered a rating of 40.5 in the key 18-49 demo.

Last year, EA decided to hand over the "Madden" cover athlete decision to the fans. The end result was the pretty obvious choice of Drew Brees, who had won Super Bowl Xliv with the New Orleans Saints earlier in the year. The fan decision didn't come until the choices were narrowed down to just three players (Drew Brees, Reggie Wayne and Jared Allen), but this year things are starting up a bit earlier. EA is holding a bracket-style competition with Espn, pitting 32 players against each other for the top honors of helming "Madden NFL 12."
One player from each of the NFL teams is represented (save for Seattle Seahawks, as their "player" is the notoriously-loud 12th Man, aka their fans). The voting for each of the rounds will last a week, with the final athlete determined in late April.

This weekend is going to be a massive one for the worlds of music, television and sports. The Super Bowl is finally here, and the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers will be squaring off against one another to determine who is this year's NFL champion is only about the fifth-most important thing happening over the next few days. In addition to the game, there will be the headline-grabbing advertisements (including a number of movie trailer premieres and appearances by both Justin Bieber and Eminem), the new episode of "Glee" that will follow the big game (which features the much-talked-about "Thriller" sequence), the national anthem care of Christina Aguilera (which bodes well for the Steelers) and the fact that this could be the most-watched American television broadcast in history (besting last year's Super Bowl, which drew 106.5 million viewers).

Think of this not as a comprehensive recap for 2010, a memorable period in the sports world that saw the two premier global athletic events in play, champions new and old, and the cult of personality in full force. You can go elsewhere for the highlights, the lists, and the stats. Rather this is just one guy's impression of the year as it was, and for those of you Pajiba readers who are not down with the sports world, think of this as a primer that might provide you with a few answers for Jeopardy! or Trivial Pursuit someday.

Drew Brees, who led the New Orleans Saints to their first Super Bowl title last February - in many ways the culmination of his five-year quest to help revive the city after Hurricane Katrina - has been named Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year for 2010. Brees, 31, came to New Orleans in 2006, the year after the hurricane, and immediately felt a kinship. The city was in ruins - much like his own career, as he nursed a wrecked shoulder. But the team believed in him, and helped him orchestrate a parallel story of rebirth for himself and the city. "It's an unbelievable honor,...

Before February 7, 2010, the most-watched television program of all time was "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen," the series finale of the classic show M*A*S*H. The episode, a television movie, garnered 105.97 viewers in America during its airing in 1983. That rather large record, even by today's standards, has remained undefeated. Or rather, it did before Sunday's Super Bowl Xliv broke the record by half a million viewers.
The NFL football showdown between the Colts and the Saints was witnessed by 106.5 million viewers. The game, which aired on CBS, featured a Saints win that has been called "nail-biting."

The game is more popular than the ads.
The five biggest Super Bowl moments outscored the five biggest ads Sunday, when measured by audience spikes and how many folks using TiVo rewound the action to watch it again.
TiVo said Monday that the top moment of Super Bowl Xliv was Tracy Porter's fourth-quarter interception of Peyton Manning that was returned for a touchdown.
The next four biggest moments of the game were a failed would-be touchdown pass by the Indianapolis Colts, a New Orleans Saints penalty that moved the Colts half the distance to the goal line, a dropped pass by Reggie Wayne of the Colts and Saints coach Sean Peyton's postgame Gatorade drenching.
In aggregate, those "game" moments were more popular than the top five commercials.

The Super Bowl Xliv on Sunday night became the most-watched program in television history. It was watched by over 106 million people.
Nielsen estimated that 106.5 million people tuned in for the sports event on Sunday night where the New Orleans Saints went on to beat the Indianapolis Colts for the title of Super Bowl champions.
The Super Bowl, which took place in Miami, was much-hyped for the first appearance of the New Orleans Saints in a Super Bowl game and the possibility of a second Super Bowl ring for quarterback Peyton Manning before his possible retirement.
The Super Bowl surpassed the finale of "M*A*S*H," which until Sunday night was the highest-rated program in television history. In an era with fewer television sets in people's homes, it held the record since February 28th, 1983.

The door has closed on another NFL season, and the New Orleans Saints have walked away as champions for the first time in the franchise's oft-troubled existence. Sunday night's (February 7) Super Bowl was an exciting back-and-fourth affair that hinged on a tiny mistake by normally surgical Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning.
But the main event — Super Bowl commercials — was the weakest in recent memory. In a down economy, apparently companies are less willing to invest the $3 million it sets them back for 30 seconds of ad time during the biggest television event of the year. A number of notable regulars sat out this time around (most notably Pepsi) and the sense of playfulness and fun that normally surrounds Super Bowl ads was largely absent, replaced by a lot of spots that actually had the gall to try to sell things (this means you, foreign car companies).

'I'd figured Peyton Manning wouldn't disappoint in the Bowl,' Mc says of putting his money on the Colts.

When Peyton Manning threw that interception in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl Xliv, the Game says he felt the $1,000 he put up on the Colts slipping through his fingers. The underdog New Orleans Saints won the game and surprised a lot of NFL fans.
"I lost some money, man," Game admitted. "I was going with the Colts, man — for no reason. The Saints or the Colts, that ain't my team, man. I'd figured Peyton Manning wouldn't disappoint in the Bowl, but he got his Jim Kelly on. He could have easily tied that game up. But [Manning] was outta the game. I know that face — it's like that sick face n---as make when they knowing it's a wrap. He couldn't shake the face.

Sunday's game draws more than 106 million fans to tackle the 'M*A*S*H' finale's record.
By Larry Carroll

For three decades, the final episode of "M*A*S*H" has stood as the unreachable height of television broadcasting, combining the end of a cultural phenomenon with the end of a three-network era to garner 106 million viewers. Now, the seemingly impossible has occurred, as Sunday's Super Bowl has beaten the drama to become the most-watched program in television history.
On Monday (February 8), the Nielsen Company released ratings numbers from the weekend's big game between the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. The result? The Super Bowl garnered 106.5 million pairs of eyeballs, just enough to beat the final "M*A*S*H" episode's 105.97 million viewers.
As theories about the massive ratings emerged, credit went to a compelling story line that had New Orleans hoping for triumph following Hurricane Katrina,...

New Orleans Saints linebacker Scott Fujita celebrates winning the Super Bowl
The New Orleans Saints, which boasts gay-supportive linebacker Scott Fujita (and a very fetching Fleur-de-lis logo to boot!), scored an impressive 31 to 17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl Xliv. This was the Saints' first appearance at a Super Bowl, and at the outset they seemed to be heavily outmatched. The end of the first quarter had the Colts with a 10-0 lead.
After making up some ground in the second quarter but still trailing, momentum seemed to turn decisively in the Saints' favor at the beginning of the second half, when they made a ballsy onside kick to steal possession away from the receiving Colts.
As far as Super Bowls go, this was certainly one of the more exciting. In fact, the game itself proved far more interesting than the commercials, The Who performance during the halftime show,...

The pre-game show prior to Super Bowl Xliv has been made a little bit more special with Carrie Underwood and Jay-z's performance. On Sunday, February 7, the country crooner belted out a rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" in front of a sold-out Sun Life Stadium in Miami, while the hip-hop singer brought out orchestra for his "Run This Town".
26-year-old Underwood took the microphone dressed in a white jumpsuit accented with silver chains and a silver belt. During her performance for the national anthem, footage of soldiers in Kabul, Afghanistan, standing at attention was shown. Fireworks and a flyover by a quartet of fighter jets hit the sky when the former "American Idol" champ got to the climax of the song.
Jay-z, in the meantime, delivered a "Posthumous Zone" version of "Run This Town" accompanied by the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra. Opened with a shot at a single pianist on a Steinway,...

Carrie Underwood took the stage of the Miami's Sun Life Stadium over the weekend, singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" live in front of the spectators of Super Bowl Xliv. Performing before the game between the Colts and Saints, she sported white outfit. At the end of her set, fireworks were shot in the air.
Although it was not the first time she delivered her rendition of the National Anthem, Carrie previously admitted about being nervous for the Sunday, February 7 performance. "I am going to be extremely nervous," she told the press. "My biggest fear is words. Of course, you sang these songs a million times and everybody knows the words and of course you know the words, but if you're going to mess up, that would be the one time you would do it."

Warren Sapp, a former NFL-er who played defensive tackle for 13 seasons, splitting time between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders, was arrested Saturday (Feb. 6) in South Beach and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery for allegedly attacking his girlfriend.
Sapp was supposed to be an analyst during Super Bowl Xliv for the NFL Network, but in light of his arrest, has been pulled from the broadcast while the NFL network looks into the matter.
You may remember Sapp from his stint on "Dancing with the Stars." In the seventh season of the show, Sapp and partner Kym Johnson finished second to Brooke Burke.
Sapp and Johnson finished higher than (among others) *NSync's Lance Bass, Chloris Leachman, and Kim Kardashian (who also happens to be at Super Bowl Xliv because her boyfriend Reggie Bush plays for the New Orleans Saints).
Sapp was released Sunday morning (Feb. 7) on a $1500 bond.

The Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints will face off later today in Miami for Super Bowl Xliv. While the rival cities cheer on their teams, two of the players' famous significant others will be in the stands - Kim Kardashian will root for her man Reggie Bush and the Saints while Kendra Wilkinson's husband Hank Baskett takes the field with the Colts. The game always brings out famous fans, and stars like Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Lautner and Kellan Lutz may pop up on the sidelines this afternoon. They're hoping certain teams emerge victorious, but tell us what you think - who are you rooting for this year? Who Are You Rooting For in the Super Bowl? The Saints - I really hope Nola wins the big one! The Colts - Go Peyton and the Colts! Don't care - I'm just watching for the commercials.

Carrie Underwood excels no matter what the context. Fresh off her headline-grabbing contribution to the Michael Jackson tribute at this year's Grammy Awards (where she adroitly weaved her way through Jackson's "Earth Song"), Underwood took the microphone in front of a sold-out Sun Life Stadium in Miami to deliver a killer rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the kickoff to Super Bowl Xliv.
Before Underwood performed, Queen Latifah sang "America the Beautiful" flanked by a children's choir. Latifah broke it down during the tune's finale for a jazz-inflected, gospel-tinged capper.

The nation may come to a collective standstill on Sunday to witness Super Bowl Xliv (between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts), but then again, standstill isn't quite the right word. Because while the eyes of football addicts and casual watchers alike will be glued to their respective TV sets, their hands and mouths will be decidedly distracted by a wide variety of delicious shnacks (the bonus 'h' is for 'heavenly'). And so while most blogs would pose the question "Which team are you rooting for?", PopWatch dares to ask "What will you be eating on Super Bowl Sunday?...

On Friday (Feb. 5), Zap2it caught up with Texas native Chace Crawford, who plays Manhattan society hunk Nate Archibald on The CW's "Gossip Girl," just before he was ready to get on a plane at JFK Airport in New York City.
His eventual destination is Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., home to Super Bowl Xliv, between the New Orleans Saints (in the team's first Super Bowl bid, wrested from the Minnesota Vikings in a 3-point overtime victory) and the Indianapolis Colts, led by uber-qb Peyton Manning.
We snuck in a few questions before boarding:
Zap2it: Which is your team?
Chace Crawford: Well, they asked me to play in it, so I figured, why not? (big laugh) The Dallas Cowboys are my team. I'm kind of rooting for the Saints, though; I'm kind of pulling for those Saints.
Zap2it: Is that because Louisiana is next door to Texas?...

The Vegas oddsmakers have the Indianapolis Colts as five point favorites heading into Sunday night's Super Bowl matchup against the New Orleans Saints. And, well, I'm inclined to believe them. Sure, Drew Brees and the Saints might be the 21st century version of "The Greatest Show on Turf," but the last time we checked, Super Bowl Xliv is being played on natural grass. Not to mention the fact that, at this stage in his career, we wouldn't bet against Peyton Manning if our lives depended on it. He's like the anti-Brett Favre.
Anyway, while reality seems to favor the Colts, we here at MTV News have are using another factor to determine who'll be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday: Music. Broadcasters are staying out of the way of the Big Game this year.
While CBS airs the Super Bowl, NBC, ABC and Fox will run repeats instead of original programming aimed at luring away audiences during halftime.
ABC will air a marathon of repeats from its Wednesday-night comedy block, NBC is putting up a couple encores of "The Biggest Loser" and Fox will run its usual mix of local programming and animation.
It's pretty rare nowadays that broadcasters specifically program to counter the Super Bowl, though ABC did last year with a special episode of "Wipeout."...

CBS expects Sunday's Super Bowl Xliv to be the most watched television program in history. And the network is looking to make a mint on the big game after managing to sell every available ad slot for the broadcast.
The problem is a couple of those ads were sold to odd buyers when you consider that this is supposed to be a massive entertainment event. People are supposed to have fun watching the game they've waited all season to see. It's a reach to ask them to think about heavy socio-political issues.
The network estimates more than 100 million viewers will tune in this weekend when Peyton Manning (right) and the Indianapolis Colts take on Drew Brees and the upset-minded New Orleans Saints. The Saints look to be the sentimental favorite as the city struggles to rebuild from Hurricane Katrina.
