- [Angel enters through the living room window. Warren Worthington II is waiting for him]
- Warren Worthington II: This has to stop.
- Warren Worthington III: I've grown really tired of this conversation.
- Warren Worthington II: You've got the MRD hunting some phantom vigilante in the skies! You're gonna get yourself killed!
- Warren Worthington III: Then that would solve all of your problems, wouldn't it, Father?
- [Angel walks out]
- Warren Worthington II: Warren!
- [Warren II is in an elevator, still stressed from his meeting with Senator Kelly. The door opens to an angry Warren III]
- Warren Worthington III: Now, you've gone too far!
- [Warren II ushers Warren III into a boardroom]
- Warren Worthington II: I'm sorry. I didn't want you to find out this way. Listen to me...
- Warren Worthington III: It's not enough you use our money to help the MRD hunt down innocent mutants, now you want to wipe them out completely with this - this cure?
- Warren Worthington II: Wipe them out? I'm helping them to become normal again. Don't you want to be normal, Warren?
- Warren Worthington III: Not your definition of it!
- Warren Worthington II: But all the money, the years of research, it was all for you.
- Warren Worthington III: No, it wasn't! It has always been for you! I was your shame, your disgrace! Don't you dare put this on me!
- Warren Worthington II: You don't understand, son, because you're sick. This cure
- Warren Worthington III: [takes off his coat and spreads his wings] I don't need a cure, because this is not a disease! I won't let you do it, do you hear me?
- [leaves the building to shocked onlookers]
- [Wolverine tackles Archangel away from Warren Worthington II]
- Wolverine: Angel, this ain't the way!
- [Archangel shoves him off]
- Archangel: What do you know, Wolverine?
- Wolverine: Cause I've been where you are. Look at me. I wasn't born like this.
- Archangel: But you didn't lose anything!
- Wolverine: I lost EVERYTHING! My past, my memories, I'll never get them back!
- Archangel: I know and, if you had the chance, you'd go after the people who did it to you.
- Wolverine: That's because I'm a monster, kid! You're not! Hurting your father won't help. Now, listen...
- Archangel: I'M THROUGH LISTENING!
- [hurls feather-shaped darts]
- [Ororo opens the front door of X-Men Manor to find a shivering Warren]
- Ororo Munroe: Warren!
- [cut to Beast's lab; Ororo sits next to Warren on an examination table; Warren is draped in a blanket; Logan enters]
- Logan: How is he?
- Dr. Hank McCoy: [looks at Warren's x-ray] His injuries are serious. Angel, all things considered, you shouldn't have left the hospital.
- Warren Worthington III: I... I couldn't stay there. Not after... Just tell me, will they grow back?
- Dr. Hank McCoy: [groans] Given time, perhaps.
- [looks back at the x-ray]
- Dr. Hank McCoy: But... it's like losing a limb, and...
- [frowns; Warren shuts his eyes sadly]
- Ororo Munroe: Warren, right now, what's important is that you heal.
- [Warren stands up and turns his back]
- Ororo Munroe: Everything else can wait.
- Dr. Hank McCoy: She's right. We'll take care of you here.
- Warren Worthington III: Someone came to me. He said he could give me back my wings.
- [the blanket falls off his back]
- Logan: This magician got a name?
- Warren Worthington III: Essex.
- Logan: Sinister. Come on, Angel, you know better than that. He's bad news!
- Warren Worthington III: He knows mutant DNA better than anyone!
- Dr. Hank McCoy: [takes off his glasses] That's because he harvests it by force in his barbaric attempts to create the perfect mutant!
- [places a comforting hand on Warren's shoulder]
- Dr. Hank McCoy: He's an evil man.
- Logan: And helping you is the last thing on his mind.
- Warren Worthington III: But I can't live like this!
- Logan: I understand that, but Sinister is not the answer.
- [night; Warren's wings have been removed from his body; he lies facing down on a hospital bed with his arms shackled to either side]
- Sinister: Angel. A-a-a-a-angel. Poor, poor fallen Angel. I've heard your cries, and I've come to help.
- Warren Worthington III: [struggles against his shackles] Who are you?
- Sinister: Just someone who can restore what's been taken from you.
- Warren Worthington III: Tell me your name!
- Sinister: Nathaniel Essex.
- Warren Worthington III: Sinister.
- Sinister: [steps into the light] So, you've heard of me. Then you know I can do what I promise.
- Warren Worthington III: Nurse. Nurse!
- Sinister: [steps back into the shadows] If you want your wings back, you need only ask.
- [Warren's arms have been unshackled and he sits up on the bed; Sinister is nowhere to be seen]
- Warren Worthington III: Hey, guys. You haven't been waiting long, I hope. I took the scenic route.
- Dr. Hank McCoy: Understandable.
- Wolverine: We called because we got us a problem, Angel.
- Warren Worthington III: And what kind of problem?
- Wolverine: It's your old man.
- Dr. Hank McCoy: You see, there's been some troubling news out of Worthington Pharmaceuticals.
- Wolverine: We hear they're only months away from a cure.
- Warren Worthington III: From what?
- Wolverine: Mutants.
- Dr. Hank McCoy: Supposedly, it will suppress the X-Gene and return us to the way we were before our powers manifested.
- Wolverine: I don't get it. How can a guy hate mutants so much when his own son is--?
- Warren Worthington III: That is the problem, Logan. Having a mutant for a son.
- Dr. Hank McCoy: Angel, wait. We need to discuss our options before we...
- Warren Worthington III: No, I'll deal with it, Hank.
- Wolverine: Not liking the sound of that.
- [last lines]
- Senator Robert Kelly: What do you mean you're out?
- Warren Worthington II: The cure is wrong. The Sentinels are wrong. I was wrong.
- Senator Robert Kelly: Yeah? Then, so was I, by trusting that you'd see this through to the end.
- Warren Worthington II: The end of what, Robert? The world? Because that's where we're heading.
- Senator Robert Kelly: You helped draw the line between us and them.
- Warren Worthington II: And it's growing fainter every day. The damage we caused, the lives we ruined... Maybe we're the problem.
- Senator Robert Kelly: You think you can just stop it? Then you're a fool. Powerful people are behind us. It's out of your hands. Sorry, Warren. In this war, humanity will win. Mutants will lose. And when the dust finally settles, we'll have you to thank.
- Warren Worthington II: You leaked the news?
- Senator Robert Kelly: Just take it easy, Warren.
- Warren Worthington II: We are a long way from getting that cure on the market. We don't need this kind of public scrutiny yet.
- Senator Robert Kelly: It's exactly what we need. To get FDA approval, people have to be clamoring for it.
- Warren Worthington II: It's not the people I'm worried about.
- Senator Robert Kelly: What? The mutants? Who cares? By the time this is over, they'll all be disarmed.
- Warren Worthington II: I wasn't ready, Robert. You went behind my back.
- Senator Robert Kelly: Don't make this so personal, Warren. Remember, it's all for the common good.
