- Cole Barker's abduction by kidnapping causes the team to going red alert, but the MI5 ace, whom even Casey admires, not only held out extensive torture, he escaped and came warn them Fulcrum is after Defense Department scientist Perseus, one of the architects of the intersect. Despite their implicit rivalry for Sara, they collaborate well at the Italian consulate to find and save Perseus, whom Chuck hopes in vain may help him remove the Intersect. Meanwhile Jefster helps Morgan trying to scare off Abba, who found his apartment lease and assumes she, not Chuck, is his chosen house-mate.—KGF Vissers
- Remember last week's episode? No? Good, because we open with a convenient wrap up of previous events, including British super spy Cole Barker (Jonathan Cake) being captured; Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) telling Chuck (Zachary Levi) the two must move in together for his safety; and news Fulcrum is attempting to build its own Intersect. It's almost TOO much plot to handle -- but we're gonna try.
Things are looking bad for Agent Cole. A pair of shady looking dudes deliver body blows to the chained agent. "How much does the CIA know about Perseus ?" asks one of the bad guys. "Who is the Intersect?" asks another. Cole remains silent. For now. Chuck, meanwhile, wakes up in bed next to a bikini-clad Sarah. This new cover assignment isn't going to be easy for the Chuckster. Nor is it going to be easy for Morgan (Joshua Gomez), who doesn't yet realize he's not going to be Bartowski's roomie. And just as Chuck is about to tell his BFF at the Buy More, a near-frantic Casey (Adam Baldwin) interrupts. Turns out Bartowski is going "off the grid" just in case Cole cracks.
ALARM BELLS! A perimeter breach! Sarah and Casey grab shotguns. Is the end? Hardly. A bloodied Cole comes stumbling through the steel door. He not only hasn't talked, but has escaped Fulcrum's clutches. Sarah runs to the hot British agent. Poor Chuck -- even when he catches a break, he can't get one. And it gets worse: Cole is soon shirtless, telling Sarah how he defeated nine Fulcrum agents to escape. "Why come back here?" Sarah asks. Coos Cole: "I wanted to make sure you were safe."
Cut to plot B in which Anna (Julia Ling) finds the lease for an apartment in the Buy More fax machine. She throws her arms around Morgan, believing her longtime slacker boyfriend is finally ready for a commitment. Morgan, of course, thinks he is still moving in with his longtime BFF Chuck. Jeff (Scott Krinsky) and Lester (Vik Sahay) suggest "Operation Repulsion" designed to convince Anna she doesn't want to live with Morgan, who wants to live with Chuck. It's complicated, folks. Sitcom complicated.
No more time for subplots now, though. We cut to a formal event at the Swiss consulate, where Casey and Sarah are attempting to located Perseus (Robert Picardo), a Fulcrum scientist responsible for building an Intersect. Chuck and Cole wait in a nearby safe house and compete for Sarah's affections via earpiece. Suddenly, Chuck has an Intersect moment! "The shorter, balding man in the glasses -- that's got to be Perseus!" he exclaims. Sarah and Casey approach the man when, unexpectedly, communications are jammed! Cole acts fast, handing Chuck a gun and telling the Nerd Herd spy they're going in.
Seconds later, Chuck and Cole sneak up on the consulate, peering through a window to see Sarah and Casey being escorted upstairs by armed Fulcrum agents! Casey explains the good doc is actually working for Fulcrum terrorists. "I swear I'm just a scientist," says Perseus, a.k.a. Howard. "They said I was helping the country!" Chuck, meanwhile, climbs a ladder and bursts into the room -- immediately dropping his gun and accidentally firing at Howard. Pathetic, but it's just the distraction Sarah and Casey need. They turn on their captors and a furious fight erupts! In the confusion, Howard escapes.
Morgan, in the meantime, has set up a list of ridiculous cohabitation rules -- including no cheese in the house except for "string" -- designed by Lester and Jeff. Operation Repulsion has begun. Alas, Anna finds the list "hilarious" and appears more in love with Morgan than ever before. Our diminutive, hirsute BFF can't believe it. "Damn it," Morgan says. "I should have gone with provolone." Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
Back under the yogurt shop, the team is being briefed by the general (Bonita Friedericy). Turns out Howard is one of the scientists who created the original Intersect. "That means he might know how to get it out of my head," Chuck says. "We've got to find this guy before Fulcrum does!" Chuck then returns to the Buy More, where he catches wind of Operation Repulsion. He tells Morgan to stop "testing" Anna before she winds up with someone else. Naturally, Chuck is talking more about him and Sarah (and Cole) then Morgan and Anna, but it's still an excellent point. Morgan agrees to be less repulsive from now on -- and to move in with Anna.
Chuck, who earlier sprained his ankle falling through the window of the Swiss consulate, arrives home. Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) immediately begins mothering (read: smothering) her little brother -- and convinces Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) to take Chuck to the hospital. Minutes later, a put-out Chuck is wearing a cast and wheeling his way through the hospital. And guess what? Howard is in the next room! Chuck immediately calls Casey, who orders Bartowski to wait for the strike team. "He might know how to get the Intersect out of my head," Chuck argues. "I can't let him go!" So Chuck hops (literally) into a cab and follows Howard to the scientist's super-futuristic lab. Unbeknownst to Chuck, those dirty Fulcrum agents are hot on his tail.
Howard, meanwhile, opens a safe and begins stuffing a briefcase full of money. Clearly, the duped scientist is preparing to flee the country. "I didn't come to hurt you," Chuck says. "I just want some answers about the Intersect!" Suddenly, Chuck FLASHES on a file labeled "Orion." "You're the one they're talking about aren't you?" an excited Howard asks. Chuck explains the Intersect is ruining his life. "Is there any way Intersect images can be taken out?" our hero asks. Howard says it's "possible," but "only Orion would know."
So who is Orion? BLAM! The Fulcrum agents shoot Howard before he can answer. Cole suddenly comes flying into frame, tackling one agent before being held at gunpoint by another. Now it's Chuck's turn to be hero. He "sweeps the leg" using his foot cast. The second Fulcrum agent goes down! Sarah enters, shooting the wounded baddie dead. A true team effort.
Back at the yogurt shop, the general explains Fulcrum's attempts to build their own Intersect have been set back considerably. Chuck asks about Orion and the general explains the government has "no leads at this time." Bummer. Cole then says goodbye to the team, calling Chuck "special" (which makes Casey guffaw). "You want something bad enough, don't ever take no for an answer," Cole tells Chuck. Sarah perks up at the comment. Our boy Chuckster might just catch a break, after all.
