Pretty wild!

Within the structure of an album that teaches you how to scratch -- and sounds liek something out of The Avalanches -- Chinese-American DJ Logan Lee is poised to make his live debut at his best friend Beatrice Pan's house party. He's a nervous wreck, she has a potentially evil -- and cybernetic alien -- boyfriend and his mom has given him perhaps the strongest strain of marijuana ever made.

Director and writer Raymond C. Lai has taken a small budget and short running time and infused it with plenty of big energy and bigger ideas. I had a blast with this and really hope that this become a full-length feature at some point. Great ending, too!

Purple Weed & The Rise of the Boring Yawn

This short film is categorized as Short / Comedy / Horror. Well it is ''short'' for sure but it's not comedy or horror. I didnt laugh once while watching it on YouTube. Maybe being ''high'' was the funny part? I don't know. Maybe it was the aunt who is into smoking weed? Maybe it would be funny for a 10 year old. Also where is the horror? There is no tension or suspense and there is nothing terrifying about it. I guess the ''horror'' is the fact that some humans in this universe are shapeshifting cyborgs? That's would be called sci-fi i believe, this term would fit this short film better. So there are 2 main things happening in this short film. 1) Logan is a DJ and he is getting ready to make his live debut at his best friend Beatrice Pan's house party and 2) after smoking weed you can actually see people who are not really human but some kind of ''Purple Cyborg Thing'' like Logan called them.

The whole film has a very annoying use of music, sound effects and different cards with text they use for the different ''chapters'' of the film. I find the idea of being able to see purple cyborgs when you're high is dumb. Also why are these cyborgs bad? Because they look different than us? Probably because they killed Logan's dad. But in the end we see that Beatrice's parents are also cyborgs, i don't think they hurt her so maybe some of them are good. So Logan was able to see that Beatrice's new boyfriend is a cyborg, he goes back home to tell to his aunt what he saw and then magically she happens to have a sketch of the ''cyborg'' people on her, how convenient right? Also they kill Beatrice's boyfriend. I wonder what they would say to the police? ''Hello officer, please smoke some weed so you can see that the person we murdered is a purple cyborg''. Sounds legit.

Most of these short films fail to understand basic logic. The performances are decent but overall this film is dull and boring. My rating is 2/10.

A young scratch DJ. A festival being his debut front the love of his life . So, his evening, emotions and the help of energetic aunt. The effect of Purple Dawn, the real face of new boy friend of the love of Logan's life and the secret explaining everything.

A lot of cliches, just nice used .

Seductive humor, familiar situations and the lovely job of actors, especially Karen Maruyama. And, sure, cool end.
