Juliette is beginning to understand the benefits and dangers of her new powers in this week's Grimm...
This review contains spoilers.
4.12 Marechaussee
Grimm is all about delayed gratification.
When Prince Viktor revealed last week that he and Adalind would be heading back to Portland as part of their hunt for baby Diana, many fans must have been hoping this week we’d be treated to the long-awaited showdown between Adalind and new super-Hexenbiest, Juliette.
Alas, we have to hold for another week before these two face off (literally).
But what we did witness in this episode was a dramatic display of Juliette’s new, deadly powers. After turning to newcomer Henrietta for help last week, Juliette is told that her powers are different – and potentially far more powerful – that your run-of-the-mill Hexenbiest.
Subsequently, she is devastated when Henrietta tells her there’s nothing she can do to help her return to the old Juliette.

The Musketeers is an unashamedly old-fashioned drama, but there's a fine line between being warmly traditional and outright predictable. It's heartening to see the show continuing to focus on character over spectacle in its fifth week, but 'The Homecoming' tells a tale that feels just a little too familiar.
Following up on episode three's reveals, James Dormer's script offers up a deeper exploration of Porthos' childhood, as the grizzled musketeer returns to the slum where he was raised.
When a night's heavy drinking ends with Porthos accused of murdering a French dignitary's son, he is sentenced to death and - after escaping captivity - ends up taking refuge in the unwelcoming Court of Miracles, a den of inequity but also our hero's childhood home.
Facing demons of the past, Porthos finds his loyalties torn, but there's never any real tension here because 'The Homecoming' adheres too rigidly to a tried-and-tested formula.

1.5 The Homecoming
Post the BAFTA-inflicted break, it was back to business with The Musketeers in their latest offering, The Homecoming, written by show runner Adrian Hodges and directed by Richard Clark (who directed the excellent Doctor Who episode, The Doctor’s Wife and previous Musketeers episode, The Good Soldier). Already at its mid-season point, the show has done well to inject some flair and freshness into an old tale by taking stylistic risks whilst remaining respectful to its source. The Homecoming should therefore present little risk, especially with the talent behind the camera, to the established formula – indeed, with Porthos’ turn as ‘Musketeer of the Week’ it should represent an opportunity to hit a high, with Charles’ portrayal...

Perhaps it was once watching him beat Luke Pasqualino to death with a bat back in his Skins days, but I'd suspected that there was a darker side to Hugo Speer's Captain Treville and those seeds bear fruit in another strong edition of BBC One's The Musketeers.
Similar to last week's instalment, 'The Good Soldier' uses a thriller plot to shed light on characters' backstories - both Treville and Santiago Cabrera's Aramis benefit this week, while Adrian Hodges's script also makes better use of Peter Capaldi's Cardinal than the past three episodes have managed.
The episode concerns a visit to France from Vincent Regan's brutish Duke of Savoy - both King Louis (Ryan Gage) and Richelieu are eager to have the Duke sign a treaty and lure Savoy away from their enemies in Spain.
But sins of the past soon threaten the alliance, as allegations...

The Musketeers introduces a soldier suffering from Ptsd in this week's episode. Here's Rob's review...
This review contains spoilers.
1.4 The Good Soldier
Last week’s Commodities struggled to juggle the dramatic intensity against the series' more traditionally fun and adventurous elements. The Good Soldier tackles similar themes and approach in exploring the troubled past and character of a single Musketeer, in this case Aramis, whilst juggling several side-plots designed to keep the other Musketeers busy.
The story is relatively simple despite the themes it explores. The Duke of Savoy (well played by Vincent Regan) has come to see the King in order to sign a treaty that will tie the two countries more closely together. A failed assassination attempt leads the Musketeers to explore the events of a past massacre in which Aramis barely survived. The revelations of their investigations touch heavily on several important themes – friendship,...

Original Airdate: 24 January 2014
In This Episode…
A big, brutish guy is speeding down the street in a muscle car. Highway Patrol gives chase. The brute stops, pulls the cop from the car, and beats the hell out of him. “You weren’t worthy,” he grunts as he scalps the cop. The case gets kicked to Portland Pd. This is the third such case of scalpings in the last few weeks. The other two were a naval captain and a border patrol cop. It looks like a serial killer with a penchant for killing men in uniform is headed to town.
The brute is now in Portland proper. A green beret in full uniform gets off a bus and walks down an dark alley. The brute is waiting for him, but this time, the brute...

3.12 The Wild Hunt
Hooray! This week saw a welcome return to form for our favourite fairytale-inspired detective show.
In the last episode before a month-long break – yeah, thanks Winter Olympics – we were treated to action, gore, romance, comedy and a “uh-ho” moment at the end that makes the four week wait until the next instalment more than a little frustrating.
More importantly, though, the writers attempted to cautiously edge some storylines out of the spot where they’ve been parked for weeks, and take them for a spin around the block.
First things first though – we have a Wesen wedding to look forward to as Rosalee accepted Monroe’s proposal of marriage! The lead up was charming, with a fancy dinner (Rosalee really scrubs...

3.11 The Good Soldier
Revenge was theme this week on Grimm, with The Good Soldier a tale of an avenging angel seeking retribution for terrible acts committed against her.
It was an interesting premise, and handled well, could have really stood out from a recent run of fairly unexceptional episodes. The Good Solider featured a deeply troubled young woman, Frankie, who we first encounter in obvious distress, slicing at her arm with a knife. We later discover this is a reaction to having been gang-raped by soldiers while serving in the Us military four years previously.
Now her attackers are all being mysteriously killed.

This week, on Grimm: Nick and Hank hunt a manticore and Rosalee goes home
Grimm is back to its usual breakdown of serial and standalone this week, as Nick and Hank investigate their case of the week while Adalind gets up to some mischief abroad and Rosalee and Monroe take their turn filling the romantic subplot quota. The procedural scenes benefit from some notable guest stars, including genre and TV-fan favorites Emily Rios (Breaking Bad, The Bridge) and Kirk Acevedo (Fringe, The Walking Dead), and it’s surprising how refreshing it is to see Nick and Hank work a case that at least initially appears odd, rather than specifically Wesen-related. Directed By: Rashaad Ernesto Green
Original Airdate: 17 January 2014
In This Episode…
A woman named Frankie is sitting outside a bar, grumbling. She carves something into her heavily-scarred arm before storming inside and confronting a man. He pretends not to know her - an obvious lie - and she dabs her bleeding arm on a napkin to “remind” him. He storms out of the bar and immediately phones a friend, insisting that “she is here” and “she is crazy.” He goes home, but Frankie follows him. An altercation in his front yard sends him inside to get his gun, but she is gone by the time he comes back out. Returning inside, the man hears movement. Before he can aim his gun, a wesen with a lion face attacks him and stabs him through the chest with a scorpion-like tail.

This week’s Grimm will be featuring an actor who’s been playing a lot of “angry man” roles since he moved on from inhabiting the beloved Charlie on Fringe. That’s right, it’s Kirk Acevedo, recently on many of our screens as Mitch on The Walking Dead, not a happy guy.
Tonight on Grimm he plays a solider, but that’s all we know; sadly, he does not appear on the TV spot, nor in the synopsis other than in the headline. That’s okay; we’ll wait if we have to. Here’s that synopsis, followed by a picture of the wesen of the week (it’s not Kirk, Fyi), and the TV spot:

This week "Grimm" puts its own spin on the legend of the Manticore, and you can see the Wesen version of the creature in these new stills from Episode 3.11, "The Good Solider," along with a bit of detective work.
If you're not familiar with the legend of the Manticore, per Monstrous.com, it typically has the body of a red lion, the face and ears of a human, and a tail ending in a stinger like that of a scorpion. The mouth contains three rows of teeth, and its poisoned spines along the tail can be shot like arrows in any direction. Sweet!
