Adam Jamal Craig was asked to leave by Creator Shane Brennan as he felt the death of a main character would add another dimension to the existing characters and therefore create a better show, another reason is that Brennan did not want his viewers expecting the same routine every week.
Special Agent Lara Macy left OSP due to a bureaucratic witch hunt by the senate. She was transferred to work as Special Agent in Charge in a Quonset hut in Djubouti. She then transferred again, and, while investigating the rape of a Petty Officer, was killed, dumped on a bonfire and burned in Annapolis. The Washington NCIS Team Lead by Gibbs found the killer, and arrested him in Season 7 episode 23 - Patriot Down.
