When the new astronauts met in the Rice Hotel, John Young was introduced to Jim Lovell by Pete Conrad. But Lovell and Young already knew each other from Pax River, where Lovell was the F-4 program manager and Young was assigned as test pilot.
When the Redstone rocket drops away from the Mercury spacecraft the word "UNITED" is painted on the side. The Redstone rocket actually had "UNITED STATES" painted vertically down its length. The word "STATES" was obscured when the rocket was fueled because it was over the liquid oxygen tank, which was so cold it caused moisture in the air to freeze on the rocket's surface. After launch the vibration of flight and aerodynamic friction would eliminate the ice, making both words visible.
While President Kennedy is making his famous speech before congress in 1961 astronauts are listening on a radio in a 1963 Plymouth Valiant convertible.
At 44m 30s the caption says "Somewhere in the South China Sea".
In reality, the landing took place in the East China Sea, and exactly on target.
The Gemini 8 recovery forces are depicted by a Ticonderoga-class cruiser, which was not commissioned until 1983. In addition, Gemini 8 was recovered by a destroyer, not a cruiser.
At the Mission Objectives briefing just after President Kennedy's commitment to a lunar landing by 1970, Chris Kraft is outlining the various steps needed to achieve the goal. To illustrate the concept of docking he uses a drawing of a Gemini spacecraft linking up with an Agena-D target vehicle. While this is how docking was actually achieved, neither of these craft had yet been designed at the time the scene is taking place.
During an astronaut briefing, where Deke Slayton announces the men in the room will be making moon landings, the Apollo 1 crew of Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee are seen and mentioned. In fact this briefing and announcement did not occur until after the Apollo 1 fire, in which all three astronauts were killed.
The recovery ship shown at 43m 15s is decades more modern than the USS Leonard F. Mason which actually recovered the ship. The sleek modern design of the superstructure gives this away.
The view of Gemini 4, prior to the spacewalk, shows the spacecraft traveling from east to west, with the view of the earth looking south, showing Monterey Bay in the background. San Luis reservoir is shown very full, but it was not completed until 2 years later. Also, the spacecraft orbited from west to east, the opposite direction than what is shown.
When Gemini 8 spins out of control, dialogue and mission maps state that the spacecraft is over the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia and heading east, but the effects shots show the spacecraft over the eastern Mediterranean, with the island of Cyprus clearly visible.
