Typically lost amongst all the big media hoopla of panels, booths, celebrity appearances, etc., is that San Diego’s annual Comic-Con hosts an International Independent Film Festival that runs concurrently along with the convention, which will be this year on July 22-25.
This is a full-fledged fest with short and feature-length films from all over the world that are typically either genre or comic book related. The full lineup of films screening this year is listed below. Screening blocks are broken up by genre: Action/Adventure, Animation, Comics, Horror, Documentary, Humor and Science Fiction.
Not listed below are the assorted panels that will be held specifically for the festival. Plus, on Sunday there will be an Awards Presentation followed by repeat screenings of all the winners.
The festival is doing something a little bit differently this year in that it’s not going to be held in the actual convention center.

To be honest, it's a bit surprising that it's taken this long for "The Guild" creator and "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" actress Felicia Day to make her debut in the comics world. An eternally multitasking creator involved with an endless array of geek-friendly projects, Day somehow found time to write a three-issue comic based on her award-winning online series.
In my interview with Day last week, she described "The Guild" as an origin story of sorts for her character in the Web series, Cyd Sherman, a gamer who juggles drama in both her online and offline worlds while trying to level up in the biggest quest of all: life.
Published by Dark Horse Comics, "The Guild" features a story by Day and art by "Street Angel" creator Jim Rugg. The first issue hit shelves today.
The Good: After reading through the first issue, it's hard to believe "The Guild" is Day's first foray into comics.

With prominent roles in Joss Whedon's television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and his online musical "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," actress Felicia Day already has a lot of fans — but for many people (myself included), it's her ongoing web series "The Guild" that first won her a place of honor in our geeky little hearts.
Chronicling the adventures of gamer Cyd Sherman as she navigates the troubled waters of real-life drama and relationships in both the online and offline worlds, "The Guild" has been described as a "love letter to gaming." Day stars, writes and produces the award-winning web series, which recently saw its third season released on DVD.
And now she's bringing it to the comic book world.

Two new Australian filmmakers are enjoying worldwide online recognition of their first short film Street Angel, before it has even been screened at any festivals. Writer/director Lucas Testro and producer Adam Bishop have made the most of online networks such as YouTube, twitter and Facebook to get the word out about their film, and their trailer has received over 4000 hits in the past four weeks.
