"Outpost".....a Director's first try.........

(( I bought it.......I'm stuck with it.......But I won't be throwing it out** ))

A near college level production (considering current day videoing capabilities), this "semi-short" film's primary problem involves acting levels, which rarely exceed average.....and sometimes don't reach that. The actor portraying our lead's earlier lover pretty much lacks competency.....while even our main guy (in his older aged version) seems sometimes wooden. Most acceptable performances are by the actor playing our lead's earlier self.....and that young actor playing the lead's later in life pursuer / would-be love interest. To be fair, I must give credit to actress, Nancy Berggren (in a first filmed role), for her portrayal of the grand motherly boarding house and bar owner. (These last 3 pull my film rating vote up).

As far as physical evidence of any romance is concerned, I find myself, again, needing to say that if a US director (they're generally the worst at this) is going to have a male couple kiss.....then for the love of mike, why not instruct them HOW. To at least move their mouths while doing so (make us see it---the other guy isn't poison, after all). If actors in a gay-themed film are, in fact, "straight".....and afraid to kiss passionately, why the hell were they ever hired!!

Finally.....Yes, there possibly is a saving grace for this film. And it is that this director (unlike so many others in the US) does NOT try to make some indecipherable statement out of the story's ending....such as some weird thing about "everlasting" love. He just lets his tale play out....in real people fashion. So, then, let me say in plain English for all you possible viewers out there, that means there is a.......Happy Ending.

**(you bet I have....many times)
