Pretty Little Liars dominated the airwaves throughout the 2010s and had fans young and old in a chokehold from Season 1 all the way to Season 7. The series follows a clique of teenage friends reeling from the death of their leader and best friend — Alison — who begin receiving threatening and cryptic messages from a stalker known only as A, who taunts them with secrets only Alison knows.
As the series progresses, a core group of characters emerges as they work to uncover the identity of A and put an end to their torment that begins with threats and then grows into shocking acts of terror that risk their lives. These characters vary in their impact on the series and their quality overall.
Updated on March 26th, 2024 by Fawzia Khan: Pretty Little Liars is just the right amount of murder, teen drama, mystery, and romance, which is why the show remains popular to date.

Warning: Spoilers lie ahead for Halo season 2, episode 8, "Halo"!
The Halo season 2 finale has bridged the gap between the divisive season 1 changes and a faithful game adaptation, which Joseph Morgan credits to new showrunner David Wiener. Morgan, a fan of the games, was thrilled about the finale's introduction of the Flood, and teases the major ramifications they have heading into the potential season 3. Though he didn't know Ackerson's full season 2 arc heading into filming, Morgan was moved by his character's complexity and feels there is room for him to be redeemed.
After two seasons of building up to it, the Halo season 2 finale has finally brought the show to the titular homeworld. The episode saw Master Chief racing against both the Covenant and Makee and the Arbiter to make it to the Halo array in the hopes of preventing any of them from using it to wipe out humanity. The Vampire Diaries' Klaus Mikaelson evolved from antagonist to fan-favorite due to his complex character arc and relationships. Actor Joseph Morgan expressed gratitude to fans for supporting Klaus, hinting at interest in returning to the vampire genre. Despite Klaus' questionable actions, his growth and relationships, particularly with Caroline, made him a beloved character.
Joseph Morgan, who portrayed Klaus Mikaelson on The Vampire Diaries, cheekily reflects on his character’s legacy. A vampire-werewolf hybrid, Klaus was introduced as an antagonist in season 2, but became a fan-favorite as the show progressed, particularly because of his relationship with Caroline Forbes (Candice King). Morgan reprised his role in The Originals, a spin-off focusing on Klaus’ family in New Orleans, and appeared during the series finale of Legacies, giving a heartwarming message to daughter Hope (Danielle Rose Russell).
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Morgan discussed playing Klaus, and his interest in returning to the vampire genre.

Stefan Salvatore's death in The Vampire Diaries was a shocking twist but was a necessary act of redemption for the character. Paul Wesley, who played Stefan, convinced the writers that his character had to die as a penance for his darker actions as a Ripper. Killing off Stefan added substance to the show's ending and allowed it to close on a necessary emotional note.
After 8 seasons of protecting Mystic Falls from supernatural threats, Stefan Salvatore died in the series finale of The Vampire Diaries. A central protagonist since the very first season of The Vampire Diaries, Stefan (Paul Wesley) was unofficially known as the good Salvatore brother for the majority of the show. However, there were several moments he became the more antagonistic of the siblings — namely, when he turned off his humanity and decided to go full "Ripper." Everybody loves a hero, but nothing is quite as satisfying as a villain redemption arc. Television is full of bad guys who went good, with various catalysts that pushed them towards their atonement. Deception, murder, and cruelty -- these TV villains were capable of it all, but the promise of love, a quest to be truly understood, and a desire to be better pushed them beyond their comfort zones and into the ranks of heroes.
From Game of Thrones to The Vampire Diaries, television shows love to depict nuanced characters who are initially antagonistic but choose a better path somewhere down the line. These redeemed villains are incredibly satisfying to watch and add new dimensions to already great shows.
Updated on March 15th, 2024 by Fawzia Khan: A good redemption arc never goes out of style. An evolving character is a pleasure to watch on TV, and some television shows did these plotlines extremely well.

Before The Vampire Diaries and True Blood brought vampires back into fashion on television, Buffy the Vampire Slayer popularized the undead for TV in the '90s. Buffy ran from 1997 to 2003, choosing to end while it was still at its peak instead of fizzling out, which is very respectable. New comics, books, and exclusive audiobook narratives are still being made about the fans' favorite Scoobies to this day, highlighting the show's lasting legacy and influence in keeping vampires cool.
As the titular Slayer, Buffy Summers had the weight of the world on her shoulders. Buffy is an inhumanly strong fighter, like a dark superhero who has a literal demon inside her that bestows such strength and abilities. Her additional strength is needed as she has to fight off some of the strongest vampires that try to settle in Sunnydale. Some of these vampires were so strong they almost beat the Slayer herself.

The 2010s were partially defined by The Vampire Diaries and its love triangles, supernatural events, and lovable characters. The CW show achieved a rare feat by managing to stay relevant through the entirety of its lengthy, 8-season run. One element that kept The Vampire Diaries fresh was the number of amazing, well-executed plot twists that kept characters, as well as viewers, on their toes. However, not every plot twist in Tvd was created equal.
Due to the sheer expanse of The Vampire Diaries universe, plot twists often coincide with the introduction of new storylines, thus rendering these unexpected developments moot. Although plot twists are meant to enhance a show, several of the ones that appear in The Vampire Diaries end up adding no value to the series whatsoever.

No television show can be perfect, even if The Vampire Diaries comes close to it. To watch and even rewatch The Vampire Diaries continues to be an exhilarating experience, especially since it was one of the last shows that did a love triangle well. At the same time, fans feel that certain plot lines and twists could have been different in the fantasy hit, so that the already great show would've become better.
Characters like Damon could have been developed better, and there were several romances that had almost as much potential as Stelena and Delena in The Vampire Diaries. These deserved to be explored further, too. These changes to Tvd would have enhanced the already riveting narrative, making it an almost flawless show.

A lesser-known fact about The Vampire Diaries is that the wildly successful show was actually based on a series of books of the same name. L.J. Smith's books were initially released in the early '90s and then continued into 13 novels that were written by both Smith and ghostwriters. While the CW show was based on the novels, it became an entity in itself and blossomed into something very different from the novels.
Showrunners Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec took the initial ideas from the novels, and developed them into a whole new Tvd Universe that had its own lore, twists, and turns. Therefore, there were some significant changes between the books and the TV show, which initially took book fans by surprise. Between Bonnie's powers and Elena's family, The Vampire Diaries is very different on paper and on the small screen.

Many plotlines in The Vampire Diaries were abandoned or proved pointless, like Elena's parentage and Pastor Young's presence. Characters like Vicki Donovan and Lily Salvatore had pointless returns that added nothing to the story. The show missed opportunities to develop key storylines like Klaus and Caroline's relationship and Damon's redemption arc.
The Vampire Diaries is one of the most beloved fantasy shows in the world. Damon, Elena, and Stefan's world was a wild and wonderful one, and eight seasons meant that the show had numerous plotlines. These stories kept the long-running fantasy show alive, but because of the sheer size of the Tvd Universe, many of these plotlines were either abandoned or proved to be pointless in the end.

Made up of superhero “sidekicks,” the Teen Titans were originally introduced in 1964 in The Brave and the Bold #54. Founding members included Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, and Aqualad.

It’s go time for the Teen Titans.
The DC heroes, which began as the teenaged sidekicks of their more famous and iconic counterparts, are getting their own live-action feature from the James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios.
The comic book movie division of Warner Bros. Discovery has tapped Ana Nogueira to pen the screenplay for the project. The hiring further ensconces the actress and playwright-turned scribe into the DC family as she is already writing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for the label.
The Teen Titans were first introduced in the mid-1960s and featured Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad as well as Wonder Girl. Other teens such as Speedy, the sidekick to Green Arrow, joined the adventures later. The comics skewed young and were not considered major sellers until the 1980s relaunch by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

The existence and connection of doppelgängers in The Vampire Diaries are a result of immortality and the disruption of the balance of nature. The Petrova doppelgängers, including Tatia, Katherine Pierce, and Elena Gilbert, play significant roles in the series and are linked to powerful witches and vampires. While doppelgängers are a central aspect of the original show, they are not featured in the subsequent spin-offs, The Originals and Legacies.
The Vampire Diaries doppelgängers and their connection to the supernatural world took five seasons to unravel. After Elena Gilbert fell in love with Stefan Salvatore during season 1, she discovered she bore an uncanny resemblance to his ex: a 500-year-old vampire named Katherine Pierce, aka "Katerina Petrova" and later seasons provided answers. In the First Century Bce, there existed powerful witches known as Travelers. The two most powerful of these Travelers were Silas and Qetsiyah who wanted their love to be eternal,...

“Funny enough Evan helped start my career well over a decade ago and we have remained good friends ever since,” Graham told Deadline. “I have consistently turned to him for guidance over the years as I navigated my journey in this industry, and he has never steered me wrong. This is a natural alignment. I am very grateful to join forces with a great man and solid friend like him.”
Graham broke out with her series regular role as witch Bonnie Bennett across all eight seasons of The CW’s supernatural teen drama The Vampire Diaries, which aired between 2009 and 2017. Developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, the show based on L.J. Smith’s books had her starring alongside Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, and more.

Inspired by, but definitely not closely adapted from, Amy Chozick’s 2018 book Chasing Hillary, The Girls on the Bus may be on Max, but it’s a throwback to a certain type of broad, big-hearted, semi-topical dramedy that TV fans used to associate with The WB.
As a female-forward workplace buddy comedy with soapy undertones, The Girls on the Bus (Chozick and The Vampire Diaries mastermind Julie Plec are credited as creators) is quite good — the casting is strong, the character dynamics appealing. As a show about journalism, The Girls on the Bus is decent — smart about a lot of things, dumb about others, but not disproportionately. As a political thriller, The Girls on the Bus is mostly a crock.

Kevin Williamson returns to the Scream franchise to direct Scream 7, bringing his original vision full circle after 28 years. With behind-the-scenes turmoil impacting production, the franchise aims for a fresh start with new cast members and a director. Williamson's direction in Scream 7 will blend the essence of Wes Craven's legacy with the innovative touch of Radio Silence Productions.
A recent update on Scream 7 confirmed that a fantastic Wes Craven replacement had been hiding in plain sight the whole time. Wes Craven is known for his prolific work in the horror and slasher genres, having directed the original A Nightmare on Elm Street and co-creating the Scream franchise. He was directly involved with the first four films until passing away in 2015. As of 2022, the Scream franchise has been rebooted with a new series and fresh characters, though they fit in the Scream timeline as sequels.

Alaric died nine times in The Vampire Diaries and Legacies, with his final demise happening in Legacies season 4. Alaric's deaths and resurrections became a running joke, but his last death in Legacies marked the end of his character's journey. Alaric's use of the Gilbert Ring kept him alive through multiple close encounters, making him the human with the highest death count in the franchise.
In The Vampire Diaries and Legacies, Alaric Saltzman has "died" a staggering nine times. Alaric is a teacher at Mystic Falls High School turned Vampire Hunter after a Vampire killed his wife, and he has been involved in several close encounters with his prey. Every time he is resurrected, it is for a different reason, but many stem from his use of the Gilbert Ring, which keeps him alive. He recognizes Damon as guilty and that's where his direct relationship with the Vampires of Mystic Falls started.

The Vampire Diaries is known for the enchanting love triangle between Damon, Elena, and Stefan, as well as the engrossing magical happenings at Mystic Falls. These three characters, along with Klaus and Caroline, have amazing arcs on the show, but there are some characters who are always overlooked in Tvd.
Bonnie Bennett, resident witch extraordinaire and Elena's best friend, was one such character. She was pivotal to the series and the Mystic Falls gang because she was the one who used her potent witch abilities to get the vampires, werewolves, and Originals out of sticky situations. Even so, Bonnie was rather sidelined by fans. The Bennett witch had some epic battles, sweet love scenes, and magical moments that kept fans spellbound.

The Vampire Diaries is one of CW’s most iconic teen dramas ever created. As the name suggests, this series follows the life of a young girl whose life is turned upside down when two vampire brothers come back into their hometown, bringing a slew of supernatural creatures with them. This CW show became highly successful, spawning two sequel series, The Originals and Legacies, and giving its talented cast international recognition. Stars Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, and Kat Graham are more famous for their roles in this series than any of their other work in media, even though The Vampire Diaries ended in 2017 and lasted only eight seasons.

The Vampire Diaries was a long, sprawling fantasy television show, which meant that it was full of countless colorful characters, and new ones were introduced all the time. Damon, Elena, and Stefan took up most of the fans' attention, but there was a marked difference in how the writers treated some characters. Many character arcs, like Klaus' and Damon's, were generous and forgiving, but other characters, like Enzo and Bonnie, got the short end of the stick.
These Tvd players were magical, powerful, likable, and engrossing, but they were subjected to some harsh storylines and events in the show timeline. Unlucky in love, self-sacrificial, cursed, or worse, killed, these characters deserved much more during their time on the show. Fans felt sorry for how they had to suffer, even in their fictional worlds.

Elena ultimately chose Damon over Stefan in The Vampire Diaries, revealing a love story that spanned across seasons. Damon and Elena's romance was heavily impacted by memory wipes, highlighting Damon's selfless side and deep love for Elena. In Legacies, Damon and Elena's life together is briefly mentioned, showcasing their happiness and marriage with a daughter named Stephanie.
Much of The Vampire Diaries was built on answering the question, "Who does Elena end up with?" and it concluded with Elena choosing Damon over his brother Stefan to be her lover. The age differences between actors and characters in The Vampire Diaries were significant but not a distraction from the show's success. Characters like Elena, Stefan, Damon, and others were portrayed by actors who were older than their character's ages in the series. Supporting characters like Rebekah, Klaus, and Enzo were turned into vampires at young ages, leading to interesting age dynamics in the show.
The Vampire Diaries ended in 2017, and it's interesting to see how old Nina Dobrev was in The Vampire Diaries. The CW has had its fair share of successful supernatural shows over the years. However, The Vampire Diaries set the stage in 2009, introducing some great characters played by actors early in their careers. From Nina Dobrev coming into the series at 20 years old and playing a 17-year-old to Ian Somerhalder at the age of 30 but playing a 25-year-old, the series' actors and characters they portrayed were far off in age,...

CW's fantasy drama, The Vampire Diaries, remains one of the most interesting TV dramas of all time. The show instantly caught the attention of viewers with a plethora of supernatural beings like vampires, werewolves, witches, hybrids and sirens, who were full of magical power unlike anything that they had seen before. However, there were quite a few weaker characters on the show who balanced out this power.
The Vampire Diaries had humans, witches, and even immortals who should have been very strong, in theory, but their actual actions and abilities made them vulnerable. These characters were always open to attack, even when they tried to stay out of the supernatural world and its doings. From Elena to Amara, these Tvd characters were the weakest.

Making a good TV show is far from an easy task. Looking specifically at casting, pre-production has the tough milestone of properly picking the most fitting actors to embody the protagonists who will carry the show for years if it's a successful series. During those years, there were endless factors that could make a TV show lose its main star before it ended.
From the contracts signed to untimely deaths, the reasons for the actors' departures certainly vary. Many TV shows started strong and harnessed passionate fans worldwide but broke their hearts when a main star quit. Some examples are Nina Dobrev's exit from The Vampire Diaries or Cory Monteith's sudden death that forced Glee to change its main storyline. These fans sometimes had to deal with the emotional plot twist and the devastating news behind the decision to write the character off the show.

A potential spinoff showcasing Lexi's adventures would explore her role in helping other vampires live full lives, showing them the romantic aspects of immortality. Caroline Forbes' Legacies-era spinoff show could delve into her adventures while traveling the world and uncover more about the Gemini Coven.
In its eight seasons, The Vampire Diaries introduces plenty of substantial characters and fascinating lore that could be the groundwork for a successful spinoff. The CW's show was created by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson and is based on L.J. Smith's series of novels of the same name. The Vampire Diaries is also the longest-running vampire show ever, beating out Buffy the Vampire Slayer and True Blood, which each ran for seven seasons. The Vampire Diaries' success resulted in two spinoffs, The Originals and Legacies.

Like “The Vampire Diaries” for teen girls, “Heroes” for the comic book geeks, “How I Met Your Mother” for the hopeless romantics, and “24” for the thrill-seekers. But man, we were stuck with dial-up before we had super-fast internet. Watching a show meant catching it live or waiting for a rerun or the DVD release. It was a totally different vibe growing up back then, you know?
And let’s talk about India, where TV serials ruled the roost, airing every day instead of once a week like in the West. Sure, folks used to clown them for being mass-produced junk, but they were our bread and butter back then. Then came the internet boom, bringing with...

The Vampire Diaries co-creator Julie Plec reveals that she has more ideas about expanding the long-running franchise. Fans of The Vampire Diaries have long been divided over which Salvatore brother Elena (Nina Dobrev) should have ended up with. It’s simply been lying somewhat dormant, waiting for a catalyst to reignite their passions. And that catalyst has come in the form of a simple tweet from series creator and showrunner Julie Plec.
