5 of the 18 main cast and crew members are Native American and First Nations (native Canadian), comprising Nez Perce, and Cree. In addition, 4 Nez Perce Indians appeared in small roles in a scene. They, along with supporting actor Sheldon Allen, made up 4 generations of one family.
In order to write a more authentic script, writer/director Jonny Lewis lived in Idaho for 3½ months. He stayed there, incorporating his experiences and inspirations, right up until the shoot started.
Three of the four actors appearing in the opening scene are Idahoans.
Cinematographer Jason Ferrell managed the Kamiah KOA Campgroud in 2012, where the film's producer, Eve Bean-Allen, was then the cook.
