“Abigail,” directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and starring Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, and Alisha Weir in a career-defining role as Abigail, is a film that initially leaves viewers questioning whether it’s an elaborate jest or merely a cinematic misstep. At times, it ventures into the realm of the ridiculous, only to ultimately unveil its true intention: to deliver a rollicking vampire comedy that adeptly blends gore with hilariously chilling moments, centered around a girl who is part Terminator, part vampire, and part… mafia ballerina.
Our time was well spent, filled with hearty laughter, surrendering to a film that, beneath its seemingly nonsensical surface, offers a wildly entertaining experience.
Abigail Plot
The storyline revolves around a cadre of criminals who kidnap a girl under the assumption of demanding a ransom. However, the girl is far from the innocent captive they expected, soon revealing her true, ferocious instincts.

This article contains spoilers for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
At the end of Planet of the Apes, the human astronaut who strove to understand the strange, simian-occupied planet made a shocking discovery. Horror overwhelms him as he struggles to make sense of the honored American monument before him, now barely recognizable.
Of course, that description can refer to the twist ending of the 1968 sci-fi classic, in which Charlton Heston falls on his knees at the sight of a decimated Statue of Liberty, realizing that he has been on a post-nuclear Earth the whole time. However, it also describes the less loved 2001 Planet of the Apes, directed by Tim Burton. In that film, Mark Wahlberg’s astronaut makes it back to the past only to find an ape version of the Lincoln Monument.
On a narrative level, the ending of 2001 Apes makes no sense, not even to Burton.

Years before Sam Raimi’s ground-breaking Spider-Man trilogy made it to the big screen and forever revolutionized the comic book superhero genre, there were several other iterations of the tale with several other filmmakers and actors associated with the project. One of them was James Cameron, who was eager to have a more mature and grounded take on the web-slinger’s live-action debut film.

Associated and contacted by Carolco Pictures, Cameron originally wanted Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead before the studio went bankrupt. However, if the filmmaker’s version of the movie had made it through, we would have gotten Spider-Man fighting two different Marvel villains in his first film.

The evolution of filmmaking spanning the past 50 years has been drastic. An actress as accomplished as Scarlett Johansson would obviously be aware of those changes while picking out potential scripts and sniffing out critical hits. And among all the actors whose films would be worthy of being rebooted or remade, there couldnʼt be a more affluent actor than Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Fortunately, Johanssonʼs need to establish herself in her own space rather than gain success by walking in someone elseʼs shadow saved her from falling into the trappings of the remake curse.

With X, Ti West lovingly re-conjured the scuzzy spirit of ‘70s classics like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. With its surprise prequel Pearl, he dialled back to clock to early Technicolor game-changers like The Wizard Of Oz, taking the yellow brick road and painting it blood-red. And now, for his trilogy-capper MaXXXine, he’s heading into the 1980s – taking Mia Goth’s aspiring star Maxine and plunging her into the sinister, seductive world of Hollywood.
As well as taking audiences six years beyond the events of X, in which Goth’s Maxine was the sole survivor of the Farmer’s Daughter massacre, the ‘80s setting of MaXXXine is a major influence on how the film looks and feels. “A big part of the aesthetic of the movie is the shiny parts of Hollywood [versus] the seedy parts of Hollywood,” West tells Empire in the Deadpool & Wolverine issue. “The shiny type of movies that are made,...

A legal brawl is underway over the Road House remake, with MGM Studios bringing counterclaims against the original film’s screenwriter over the rights to the 1986 screenplay that spawned the movie.
In a countersuit filed on Friday in California federal court, the studio and its parent, Amazon, accuse Hill of fraud for lying to the U.S. Copyright Office that he’s the true author of the screenplay and can take advantage of a provision in copyright law that allows him and other similarly-situated writers to reclaim the rights to past works.
Marc Toberoff, a lawyer for Hill, said in a statement that the fraud claim is “baseless deflection.” He added that he “informed the Copyright Office that this matter is in dispute and would be the subject of litigation.”

Director Stanley Kubrick is known for his perfectionist tendencies while on set. His commitment to getting the shot technically and artistically right has resulted in some of the best films of all time such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Barry Lyndon, Paths of Glory, Full Metal Jacket, and The Shining among others.
Kubrick passed away before the release of his final film Eyes Wide Shut, which starred Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, who were then married. While the psychological thriller drama has been regarded as one of Kubrick’s best and is considered to be one of the greats, the filmmaker himself reportedly did not like the film and especially hated working with Cruise and Kidman.

The original Star Wars films changed the landscape of sci-fi films, being a blockbuster franchise that contained sensible storytelling mixed with impressive sci-fi elements. George Lucas pushed the boundaries of the genre and narrated the lives of the relatable Rebels who fought against the totalitarian Empire that threatened their existence.

To say the Terminator timeline is pretty confusing at this point would be an understatement. The franchise, created with the release of James Cameron's seminal 1984 effort "The Terminator," has since been softly rebooted, retconned, and generally mishandled by successive generations of studios and filmmakers. So twisted is the saga's internal timeline that watching the "Terminator" movies in any kind of coherent order has become a challenge not unlike trying to destroy the T-800 himself.
Prior to the release of 2019's "Terminator: Dark Fate," things seemed to be looking up. It was thanks in part to Arnold Schwarzenegger that the former publisher of the National Enquirer knew he could get in trouble for the tabloid’s catch-and-kill policy and buying off salacious stories about Donald Trump.
Over objections from Trump’s defense team, ex-American Media CEO David Pecker poignantly Thursday told the judge, jurors, Trump himself and everyone else in a packed Manhattan courtroom he was aware he was violating election law in 2016 when he secretly bought Playboy playmate Karen McDougal’s story of an affair with Trump for $150,000. Admitting the purchase was entirely to kill the story, Pecker said that the primary purpose behind the payoff and others in a similar vein was to help the then-Celebrity Apprentice host’s presidential campaign.
Such tactics were nothing new for Pecker.

Jack and Rose’s tragic romance in Titanic is considered to be one of the greatest love stories. James Cameron’s epic disaster film was known for its amazing practical and visual effects but has become a modern classic due to Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s acclaimed performances as the leading couple.
Though Cameron’s ambitious project runs over three hours, the filmmaker still had some deleted scenes on the cutting room floor. One of these scenes saw Jack and Rose singing ‘Come Josephine’ after their Irish Dance at the third class section. Fans were quick to notice that the song was hummed by the duo at different points in the film, including its heartbreaking ending.

Director Robert Eggers (The Lighthouse & The Northman) made a name for himself with The Witch, a film that most directors would be proud to have on their résumé, especially as their first feature-length production.
In the same vein, as artists in any discipline are often especially critical of their earlier work, Eggers also admitted that he did not want to watch this 2015 horror movie. One of the most interesting kinds of adversaries are the persistent ones, the ones who just cannot be shaken off the trail and continue to hound the protagonists like an agent of Nemesis. Well-crafted antagonists with such dogged determination and zeal for relentless pursuit, like “Agent Smith” of The Matrix movie series and the titular villains of the Terminator franchise, have become iconic in their own merit. In Zack Snyder’s space opera franchise, Rebel Moon, Imperium Admiral Atticus Noble has established himself as such a force by acting as the prime antagonist in the first two entries.

Following the success of Alien, the acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron proposed a sequel to the studio, which ultimately earned two Oscars and became one of his most acclaimed works. And there is a prevalent story about how he convinced the studio for this sequel.
Aliens (1986)
It has been believed that Cameron pitched the Alien sequel by simply adding an ‘S’ to the film’s title and turning it into a dollar sign. The Oscar-winning filmmaker confirmed the urban legend surrounding the Alien sequel later in an interview, as he shared that the studio didn’t question his vision and proceeded with the sequel.
James Cameron Confirmed the Pitching Story For Alien Sequel
The long-standing tale surrounding James Cameron‘s pitch for Aliens has become an “urban legend” among fans. However, the filmmaker himself has confirmed that it is true and that he did propose the sequel in a manner closely resembling the urban legend.

Linda Hamilton has been one of the trailblazers who changed the industry’s stereotypical portrayal of women in film. Actresses like Sigourney Weaver and Hamilton showed that women can be total badasses and can hold themselves against danger. Hamilton’s role as Sarah Connor in The Terminator series has been the most popular role of her career.

However, that tough and incredible role became a detriment to her career as she got typecast in similar roles and was not getting diverse projects. The actress recently revealed that she was tired of being tough on camera, and landing a meaningful part in Stranger Things prevented her from taking a retirement from acting.

Linda Hamilton will be making an appearance in the upcoming Stranger Things, which poetically takes place in the era when she catapulted to fame thanks to The Terminator. Her defining performance as Sarah Connor sealed her in pop culture as one of the best sci-fi characters of all time. However, even though she would make a return to the series with the sequel Terminator: Dark Fate, Hamilton has definitively stated that she is no longer interested in reprising her iconic character.
The Beauty and the Beast TV show star recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about her projects. It was inevitably asked if she would come back for another round with the cybernetic organism when they inquired what was more likely: an AI-written Terminator sequel or her reprising the role of Sarah Connor. Hamilton answered, “AI writing the next Terminator movie. And they kill me off before we start.

There are games that can really achieve what all video games strive for: the ability to make players enjoy the experience. Helldivers 2 is one of the titles that can generate almost unlimited fun with one hilarious moment after another.
With a very active community and sense of companionship, there are epic moments that happen organically in every new mission. This time a couple of players make a dive to reach a door before it closes, like Indiana Jones in one of the chambers with treasures. Unfortunately, this didn’t go as expected.

It’s difficult to imagine James Cameron’s The Terminator (1984) with an actor in the lead other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. The star propelled the franchise to fame, and it also cemented his legacy in Hollywood, but he was surprisingly not the studio’s first choice for the role.

Cameron knew exactly what he was looking for when he cast Schwarzenegger. Consequently, the director immediately refused the idea of having former NFL star Oj Simpson involved in the movie.
James Cameron Clarified Mystery Behind Oj Simpson’s Involvement In The Terminator
In an interview with Independent, former professional bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger shared he was not the first person in mind when James Cameron was prepping for The Terminator.
“It was actually Oj Simpson that was the first cast Terminator. Then somehow [James Cameron] felt that he was not as believable for a killing machine. So then they hired me.

Save for Tom Cruise and maybe Kevin Feige, no name carries more weight in the world of tentpole filmmaking than James Cameron.
In December 2022, more than a decade after the writer/director’s triumphant “Avatar” became the highest grossing movie of all time, Cameron’s sequel and visual effects marvel “Avatar: The Way of Water” provided a massive splash of ticket sales for a drought-ridden box office. It’s now the third highest grossing film of all time, and its run propped up theaters in what IndieWire’s Tom Brueggeman described as a good start to the 2023.
That’s standard fare for Cameron, of course. He first made box office history in 1997 with the epic historical fiction romance “Titanic”: a cinematic knockout that ran in theaters for nearly ten months and remains the fourth highest grossing movie ever made. He won Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Editing at the year’s Academy Awards.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has accomplished a fair bit in his life. Who wants to come along and ride with James Cameron on a Fantastic Voyage? During a Paris masterclass at Cinematheque Francaise showcasing the legendary filmmaker’s talent as a graphic artist, Cameron commented on his long-gestating remake of the Richard Fleischer-directed science-fiction adventure film Fantastic Voyage, saying he still plans to produce a remake of the classic cinematic gem.
“We’ve been developing it for a number of years, and we plan to go ahead with it very soon,” Cameron said about producing the remake with his friend Jon Landau. “Raquel Welch is not available, but we think we can make a pretty good movie.” In 1966’s Fantastic Voyage, a crew is shrunk and injected into the bloodstream of a comatose scientist to repair a blood clot.

James Cameron delivered a masterclass in Paris on Thursday night following a sold-out screening of his 1984 breakout “The Terminator.” With the title so fresh in his mind, the filmmaker spent much of the session sharing stories from the project’s improbable making of.

For every Prey or Blade Runner 2049 there are a dozen uninspired retreads of beloved old sci-fi franchises. So a Matrix reboot may not be the best news
Somewhere over the digital horizon, down the rabbit hole and straight on til morning, a new Matrix episode is brewing. After handing us three deeply average (at best) sequels to the majestic original 1999 film, studio Warner Bros has decided to hand the keys of the Nebuchadnezzar to Drew Goddard, whose writing credits include The Martian, The Cabin in the Woods, and Cloverfield. It’s probably a good idea, because the series’ creators, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, have clearly run out of ideas if 2021’s completely superfluous The Matrix Resurrections is anything to go by.
Resurrections joined the ranks of belated sequels to science fiction and fantasy totems that never quite live up to the standards of the original, yet somehow still keep coming.

The glamorous (and handsomely paid) actors and actresses who bring our favorite films and TV shows to life often captivate us, but let us not forget that the real heroes are the artistic wizards behind the camera: the directors. Actors Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds collaborated for the 2012 feature Safe House for the first time. The film saw Washington in the rare role as a villain, whose character would undergo a torturous interrogation process by the government.
Although Washington could’ve used a stunt double for the dangerous scene, he wanted to experience the feeling of being tortured firsthand.

Washington mostly preferred to do his own stunts in his films. This was the case in Safe House, an action thriller that required Washington to be in decent shape. Since he couldn’t rely solely on stunt doubles, Washington and his co-star Ryan Reynolds worked with professionals to physically prepare for their roles. In a resurfaced interview with Black Film, Washington asserted that he also had time on his side while training for the feature.

A little more than two months since the estate of the comedy genius took the creators of an AI generated special that uses Carlin’s style and voice to court, the parties have settled.
“Defendants are hereby Permanently Restrained And Enjoined From uploading, posting or broadcasting the Dudesy Special on the Dudesy Podcast, or in any content posted to any website, account or platform controlled by Defendants,” a proposed injunction order submitted Tuesday in federal court from both sides says. “Defendants are hereby Permanently Restrained And Enjoined From using George Carlin’s image, voice or likeness on the Dudesy Podcast, or in any content posted to any website, account or platform controlled by Defendants without the express written approval of the Plaintiffs,” the filing adds against defendants Will Sasso and Chad Kultgen.
In point of fact, Sasso and Kultgen took down the offending digital special on January 31, six days after the Carlin estate sued them. As of right now, US District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpon has not yet signed the order, according to the case docket.
Even so, unless the Dudsey podcast hosts violate the deal, that’s the end of it.
Kind of.
Carlin’s daughter Kelly Carlin believes the case reflects a potential larger cultural and creative crisis out of the volcanic rise of AI.
“I am pleased that this matter was resolved quickly and amicably, and I am grateful that the defendants acted responsibly by swiftly removing the video they made,” Carlin said in a statement sent to Deadline today. “While it is a shame that this happened at all, I hope this case serves as a warning about the dangers posed by AI technologies and the need for appropriate safeguards not just for artists and creatives, but every human on earth.”
Nightmare scenarios pulled from The Matrix and Terminator franchises aside, the dramatic advances in artificial intelligence in just the past year since ChatGPT went live make it almost certain that vast shifts in almost every aspect of our lives and society are coming. As the Biden administration, the EU, Hollywood unions and many more try to put guardrails in place to at least corral the pace of change, the pros and cons of AI appear to be in a pedal to the metal race for dominance.
In the case of Carlin’s work and persona, the one-hour George Carlin: I’m Glad I’m Dead special that dropped on You Tube on January 9 didn’t even make much of an effort to sidestep the legal potholes. Claiming “for the next hour I’ll be doing my best George Carlin impersonation just like a human being would. I tried to capture his iconic style to tackle the topics I think the comedy legend would be talking about today,” the lame graphics filled presentation was a clear “bastardization of Carlin’s real work,” the copyright infringement complaint declared of the comic, who died at the age of 71 in 2008.
The filing sought an injunction, as the settlement achieved, and damages, which were not revealed in today’s paperwork, if they even were granted.
“This settlement is a great outcome for our clients and will serve as a blueprint for resolving similar disputes going forward where an artist or public figure has their rights infringed by AI technology,” said Carlin estate attorney Joshua Schiller after the proposed order was filed.
“Our goal was to resolve this case expeditiously and have the offending videos removed from the internet so that we could preserve Mr. Carlin’s legacy and shine a light on the reputational and intellectual property threat caused by this emerging technology,” the Boies Schiller Flexner Llp partner added “The world has begun to appreciate the power and potential dangers inherent in AI tools, which can mimic voices, generate fake photographs, and alter video. In recent months, there has been a wave of high-profile examples, from the fake Joe Biden robocall in New Hampshire to multiple rounds of AI-generated nude photographs of celebrities. This is not a problem that will go away by itself. It must be confronted with swift, forceful action in the courts, and the AI software companies whose technology is being weaponized must also bear some measure of accountability.”
Whether this instance will be a blueprint for ending or stopping future such AI generated occurrences, you know this is just the first of many times the dead will be digitally resurrected as the technology becomes more widespread – and that’s no bulls**t.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is certainly one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, whose claim to fame was through his iconic role in the Terminator franchise.
