An amazing anime series!

Living for the Day After Tomorrow (or "Asatte no Houkou") is everything you want from a "slice of life" anime. It's incredibly sweet; the characters are endearing and very well developed; the pacing is perfect, not too fast, but not sluggish--just perfect for the story of summer magic.

The camera angles, scenery, music--everything fits absolutely perfectly. If you liked Azumanga Daioh, or Yotsuba&! (anything of Kiyohiko Azuma's, basically), or, as I said, anything that has a relaxed "slice of life" type feel to it, you will adore Living for the Day After Tomorrow from first episode to last.

I highly recommend it, and if you happen to come across it, don't pass up the chance to see it!

Summer desires

I too wanted to grow old and now I too want to become a child again.

A middle school girl Karada Iokawa wishes to grow up soon so that she could become independent. She lives with her brother Hiro. Quite unexpectedly for Hiro, he has an encounter with his ex-lover Shouko Nogami, who was still upset that Hiro left her alone in the USA and never contacted her again. Karada initially appearing fond of Shouko, dragged her to the beach with her brother and a couple of their friends. But Shouko, in her frustration tells Karada that her ribbons are childish. Karada cannot stand being called childish. Later that day, Shouko noticed her praying at the shrine. Karada wishes to become older and surprisingly, her prayers are answered. She instantly transforms into a young woman. Incidentally, Shouko then has her adulthood taken away from her and she reverts to about eleven years old.

With such a story or concept, one would anticipate that the anime would be all about some funny awkward scenes and also some inevitable drama. However, the anime is just beyond any comedy or dramatic scenes. All main characters in this anime bear their own emotional burdens which compels them to take some naive and desperate actions. How they overcome their burdens and how the two female characters get their original bodies back is what the anime is about.

This anime isn't something special to me nor does it have any impact on me. But despite that, I am rating it as 10. Asatte no Houkou intends to be a short, simple story and it remains a short and simple story. Even the music is simple and it fits perfectly. This anime is for the Shoujo anime fans. They should not miss this one.
