Buss meets Red, to start the Lakers-Celtics war, as West throws in the towel.

This episode 2 "Is That All There Is?" from "HBO's" "Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty" was one entertaining and interesting drama filled episode. Here we see current head coach and ex Lakers super great legend Jerry West(Jason Clarke) have flashbacks to his humble start in rural West Virginia as he remembers the painful scenes from his broken home. And still with doubt about having Magic as a point guard and with the power struggles with owner Buss(the other Jerry) in a surprise shock Jerry West hands in his step down papers. Also revealing was how at a young age before his exit to L. A. was that Ervin "Magic" Johnson(Quincy Isaiah) had his way with the ladies in East Lansing by scoring with casual sex. Jerry Buss(in another super turn from John C. Reilly) being outspoken and go against the grain with his rebel like ways introduces himself to legendary Boston Celtics owner Red Auerbach(Michael Chiklis) and a spark is started for some competition as the Lakers and Celtics rival has only just begun! Overall again well done episode well acted and entertaining a joy and pleasure to watch for any Lakers fan.

Not only for basketball fans

Even if you aren't a fan of basketball, you will enjoy this. Intriguing story and great acting. It's like a drama but it got basketball in it. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out. If not for the story you will appreciate the technical work.

Is That All There Is?

Jerry Buss's rivalry with Boston Celtics Red Auerbach is cemented here.

Auerbach has no time for Buss's flim flam and lets him know that Auerbach is top dog.

It is a menacing performance by Michael Chiklis.

I wanted this episode to move on a little now that Buss has purchased the LA Lakers. Money was tight and his mother is introduced as an accountant pouring over the books.

It needed Buss to be ducking and diving a bit more. A true hustler.

Instead it focussed more on Magic Johnson's way with the ladies and him trying to humiliate the new boyfriend of his ex. I think a big tall guy who has just signed for the LA Lakers is going to beat ordinary guys in a game of basketball.

Even the casual audience will know what fate awaits Johnson. It does not need to trowel it on.
