The 2017 NBA champion Golden State Warriors pushed back against reports Tuesday that they had decided not to visit President Donald Trump‘s White House, a decision that would break decades of tradition for American sports teams.
“We have not received an invitation to the White House, but will make those decisions when and if necessary,” the team said in a statement.
The statement knocked down reports on social media that the team had unanimously decided not to visit the White House. The Warriors, who beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120 on Monday night to win their second NBA championship in the last three years,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger muscled up some better ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ TV ratings than last week, but NBC still settled for fourth place in the key adults 18-49 demographic. That’s pretty much because everything else grew too with no Ncaa football competition over on cable. ABC topped broadcast’s main demo with “The Bachelor,” though CBS scored primetime’s most total viewers. The Disney-owned broadcaster was first in ratings with a 1.8 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 5.6 million, according to preliminary numbers. “The Bachelor” at 8 p.m. earned a 2.3/7 and 7.1 million viewers — those.

Another month, another victory for Sony, as the PlayStation 4 was once again the top selling console in the U.S. last month. The good news didn’t stop there, however, as The Last Of Us also returned to the top of the software sales chart, thanks to its recent re-release.
Much like the past few months, however, hardware sales have continued to rise, while software sales continue to decline. With strong sales for both the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the Nintendo Wii U, it’s not hard to see why hardware sales continue to improve. Less explainable, however, is the plummeting software sales numbers. Npd Analyst Liam Callahan offered his thoughts on the numbers in the latest Npd report.
“Hardware sales doubled in July 2014 (vs. July 2013), stemming from growth in eighth generation console sales which offset declines in seventh generation console and portable hardware. July is typically...

As a record number of folks watched Super Bowl Xlviii on TV yesterday, an average of 528,000 per minute live streamed the game on Fox Sports. That makes the Seahawks’ pummeling of the Broncos the most-viewed live stream of a single U.S. sporting ever, beating last year’s Big Game by 4%. Despite the blowout score, it more than doubled the online viewership for the thrilling Ncaa football championship game last month. NBCUniversal likely is applauding those numbers as it prepares to live stream every event — more than 1,000 hours worth — at the Sochi Winter Games, which kick off this week.

According to McVuk, an early InfoScout report has pegged Microsoft as the hardware sales winner on Black Friday at Target and Walmart. While specific hardware numbers have yet to be released, it is being reported that the Xbox One and Xbox 360 accounted for more than 60% of hardware sales between the two stores.
Following Microsoft is Sony, whose PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 accounted for an additional 30% of hardware sales. Bringing up the rear is Nintendo, with the Wii U and Wii combining for only around 6% of total sales. Although, to be fair to Nintendo, numbers for the 3Ds have yet to be released.
Though Microsoft certainly had an impressive weekend, there were some outside factors that may have contributed to the company’s high sales. The InfoScout report mentioned that the scarcity of the PlayStation 4 certainly played a major role, as well as the fact that Walmart was offering a $99 deal for...

In Europe, Saturday is arguably the biggest night for television viewing. So it is no surprise that this year’s pageant host, Russia, picked Saturday for the global telecast. In the U.S., where Saturday is the least watched night of the week, last night’s Miss Universe 2013 special drew 3.8 million viewers and a 0.9 in adults 18-49, about half of the 6.1 million, 1.8 in 18-49 who tuned in last year when Miss Universe aired from 8-10 Pm on Wednesday, originating from Las Vegas with Miss USA as the winner. This year, Venezuela, where pageants are matter of national pride, landed another Miss Universe. Despite the controversy leading to the pageant, stemming from Russia’s anti-gay laws, there was no mention of the issue on the telecast. CBS won Saturday night with Ncaa football (11.5 million, 3.9/13 in the fast nationals).

Outside of Halloween, this is possibly my favorite time of the year. The weather is starting to cool off, baseball season is in full swing, and children are going back to school, meaning that my late night gaming sessions aren’t filled with people who claim to have intercourse with my mother. However, the best thing is that we are now only 15 days away from the start of the football season, which means that right now there is a 100% guarantee that someone, somewhere in America, has his hands raised above his head and is yelling the word “football.”
Now, while Madden NFL 25 may not be quite as good as the real thing, this year’s offering is easily the best to date. And I think that’s enough to warrant taking off my shirt and yelling “football,” no matter how many times my neighbour may protest.

Chicago - If you close your eyes and picture some of the iconic moments in gaming history, most of them involve some sort of personal touch. The fireworks when you beat a level in “Super Mario Brothers”, the first time you were attacked by dozens of chickens in “The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past”, hiding in a cardboard box in “Metal Gear Solid”, the “Lazlo” show in “Grand Theft Auto III” and probably whatever your personal favorite gaming moment is, all managed to connect with gamers on a level beyond simply ‘gaming’ - instead ingratiating themselves into our psyches via charm and character, remaining there forever.

I’m not traditionally a college sports guy, truth be told. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t raised in an area where I was surrounded by the culture , or maybe it’s because the universities I attended weren’t exactly steeped in traditions of athletic excellence. I’ve always had the mentality that college sports are fun, but they may be a bit of an acquired taste that I simply never developed. Coming into Ncaa Football 14 as an absolutely rabid fan of Madden, I was hoping this would be enough to finally win me over. Sadly, however, I think it’s going to take just a bit more to pull me into the world of college sports.

For those unfamiliar with Capcom’s two retro-reboots, Mega Man 9 (released digitally in 2008) and its follow up Mega Man 10 (2010) are a return to the classic gameplay that defined the Blue Bomber during the Nes-era. Meaning, both games are tough as nails 2D side-scrolling action platformers with beautiful 8-bit graphics.
Aside from the free Mega Man 9 and 10 Combo Pack, North American PlayStation Plus members will also be able to join in the God of War: Ascension multiplayer beta and download an exclusive God of War ”Eye of Kratos” avatar for free. The beta will offer access to two game modes; Team Favor of the Gods, and the “yet-to-be-seen” Favor of the Gods mode. Both of the beta modes center around earning points by killing enemies,...

As if the holiday season and the New Year weren’t enough to remind us of the inescapable creep of time, Electronic Arts has announced that it will be scuttling the servers of its older sports titles later this month.
In a statement on their website, EA explains that “fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles” are still playing games like "FIFA 11," "Madden 11," and "NHL 11" -- games for which the online multiplayer servers will be shut down on the 11th. “It’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running,” the statement continues.
Here’s the full list:

Sorry for the late post on this one, somehow i missed this wonderful news when it was first announced earlier in the week. For fans of the FX series ‘American Horror Story’ there was tremendous news this week. FX has officially renewed the series for a third season consisting of 13 episodes. Hit the jump for the official press release.
After This weeks phenomenal episode which really stepped up the game for Asylum, I couldn’t be more pleased with the announcement of the renewal. The new episode that aired on Wednesday i felt might of just put this season above season one in my book. With the huge reveal of who Bloody Face is, along with other key plot twists that were revealed this week (none of which i will get into for the sake of those who are not up to date) I can only imagine what Season Three will bring to the table.

The idea of creating a horror TV series that would change characters, themes, and actors every season was risky, but it paid off. The first episodes of American Horror Story: Asylum have been a big success for FX and they have officially announced that the series will be getting a third season.
Fans of the series will be happy to know that Jessica Lange is already on board for the third season, which will premiere in the fall of 2013. While there are no specific details about what we can expect from the story, the theme and characters will change once again. We can also expect season 1 and 2 actors to return, along with a cast of new characters. Here is the official press release:

The Npd Group announced their August 2012 Us retail sales report last night, revealing that Thq’s Darksiders 2 was the best-selling software title for the month, with 247,000 units sold across the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
Software sales were one of the few bright spots in Npd’s report, with total new retail sales (including PC retail software) coming in at $252.8 million, an 11% drop year-over-year. Narrowing the focus to the “high definition platforms” reveals that software sales actually stabilized, and only fell 1% when compared to August 2011.
Accessory sales for August 2012 saw the smallest percentage decline, with total sales dropping 7% to $127.3 million. Point cards and other retail methods of purchasing digital content continued to drive this segment, along with the help of Activision’s Skylander character packs.
Despite the not-so-horrible news in the new retail software and accessory sectors, hardware sales declined a whopping 39% (to $150.6 million) in August 2012, driving overall video game industry sales down to $515.6 million,...

August is always a special time of year for me. As a gamer, I can always look forward to two things. First, all of the children will start school again, drastically cleaning up my experience. Secondly, I can look forward to another Madden title, which will get me geared up for football season. Most gamers scoff that the annual release is nothing more than a retail priced roster update, but the series’ dedicated fans froth at the mouth with the excitement that comes with each iteration’s (traditionally) minor changes. This time around, the changes are much more noticeable, leaving little room for a “rehash” debate, but I’m still not sure if that’s a good thing.
The most noticeable formula change that Madden NFL 13 presents is its completely reimagined physics system. The Infinity Engine adds an unparalleled level of realism to the on field antics, meaning that every...

Sometimes you just want to cover a classic, you know? The Frat Pack has been around making movies for about 16 years. That is if you count The Cable Guy, which you totally should. Films with comedians like Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, and Jack Black (to name only a few) have become go-to hits for people looking for movies that are simply story. There’s little drama to be found in these film and even less sincere conflict, but if they don’t split your side from all the nonstop laughter, you might need to check yourself for signs that you are a robot. With that, we’re cracking into one of these bad boys, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story to be precise. In this commentary, we’ll hear Ben Stiller make jokey jokes every five minutes, Vince Vaughn will likely throw out sarcastic jabs and the occasional, goofy giggle, and...

A settlement on a class action filed against EA Sports has just been handed down that effectively prohibits EA from renewing its exclusive agreement with the Ncaa. If that wasn’t enough, the company is going to write a 27 million dollar cheque to anyone who’s bought in since 2005. A court still needs to uphold the settlement, and we can expect a final ruling on September 27.
Now, how does this affect you? Glad you asked. Customers that bought any GameCube, Xbox or PS2 game is entitled to $6.79 per title. Current gen titles will net you a bit less at about $1.95 each. Make sure to check out the press release below for more details.
The plaintiffs in the suit argued that EA was in violation of antitrust laws by getting into exclusive agreements with the Ncaa, NFL, and Afl. Per the settlement, EA won’t be able to make any exclusive...

Hey you! The higher education institution of learning that I attended in my late teens/early twenties would absolutely destroy the higher education institution of learning that you attended during the same time span in your life in a full contact game revolving around an oblong ball! Ok, that’s not entirely true. Honestly, I’m surprised my school’s team could even find the field on a regular basis, let alone try to compete. However, that’s where the magic of video games comes in!
Ncaa Football 13 hits store shelves July 10th, and with some proper scheming I may actually be able to field something that looks fairly respectable. EA Sports released the team ratings for some of the top teams this year, and while this is subject to change and sure to start a few arguments, some of their choices are…. questionable.

With the world’s premier gaming event about to open its doors, and the entire industry bristling with excited expectation of what secrets might be revealed during the conference, now’s the perfect time to list all of the games that we know (so far) will be unveiled in the next few days, as well as a few that are a decent bet based on some of the more virulent rumours currently swirling around the web.
Personal highlights of this year’s event go to Nintendo’s eye-catching and mouth-watering reveal of the Wii U, including the full list of launch titles (presumably), more news on Black Ops II, Medal of Honour: Warfighter, The Last of Us and Star Wars 1313. It is obviously a huge shame that there will be no XBox 720 or PS4 (barring a major surprise from either Microsoft or Sony), but the grand unveil of the Wii U,...

EA brings sports and more Battlefield to this year's E3.
Is there any publisher with more first-person-shooters on their slate than EA this year? With Medal of Honor: Warfighter dropping in the back half of this year, along with two new Battlefield games, and Crysis 3 making its debut sometime in 2013, EA wants us looking down the barrel of a gun in some way, shape, or form over the next year.
Besides getting our collective gun on, EA has dropped pre-E3 updates on their big sports franchises, including the latest installments of FIFA, Madden, and NBA Live.
Besides that, EA will be showing off the latest from the Dead Space sequel as well as this year's Need for Speed: Most Wanted from Criterion.
You can check out EA's full E3 briefing on Monday at 4:00 Pm Et at www.ea.com/e3. In the meantime, you can find the full...

EA Sports has had its motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed against it by NFL retirees rejected by a California judge. The former athletes are suing the studio over the use of their names and likenesses without consent or compensation. EA cited the First Amendment, claiming that as a creator of expressive works, it has the right to use player likenesses freely under California law. The same defence helped them ward off a legal complaint from ex-Ncaa football players. However, the judge sided with the NFL retirees (more)...
