Before My Very Eyes
ISmellSnow5 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ned is very sick at the infirmary and Carson and Faith have to do 2 surgeries on him. Florence is very concerned and is trying to stay with him and also try to run the Mercantile/ switchboard. He wakes up before surgery and proposes to Florence. Afterwards when he is feeling better, he confirms the proposal and they have a sweet moment together.

At the saloon, Lucas tells Elizabeth that his mom and dad are going to work on their marriage. He goes to hold her hand but she is resistant and apologizes to him.

Joseph wants to hold a prayer vigil for Ned at the church/school. Lucas volunteers to go with him to help set up. He asks Joseph if he has thought about pastoring at the church but Joseph says no. Later on at the church, Minnie walks in on Joseph praying and tells him he should be preaching in Hope Valley, it's his calling.

Nathan is officially adopting Allie and invites Elizabeth to the ceremony and she accepts. Allie doesn't understand why Elizabeth likes Lucas and not Nathan so she plays matchmaker this whole episode and tricks Elizabeth into being the only one at the adoption ceremony. Awkward!

Lucas is skeptical of Christopher and knows that he's up to no good. I'm still not liking Christopher's character so his storyline is pretty dull to me.

Lucas quotes a novel about a man who loves a woman whom ultimately rejects him to Elizabeth and tells her he wants PDA but is not going to rush her. She later returns to him and says she doesn't want him to have any secret sorrows, she wants him to share all his joys and sorrows publicly and privately then asks him to walk her home and she holds his hand. Swoon.

This was a really good episode, acting was excellent and there was a great balance between drama and comedy. I can't wait to see what's next.

Inconsistent Writing

Inconsistent writing: figuring it out as they go along leads to a poor and cheap resolution in later episodes. Florence and Ned's scenes are precious, heartwarming, and the best part of the episode. The Canfields offer wisdom and prove they are a great addition to the cast.

Cruel
PeriodDramaFan8810 June 2021
The cruel, twisted beat down of Nathan's character continues in this episode. What was the point of the "not yet" comment? To make the ending just that much more painful? Sadistic!
