Back in 2000, director Ridley Scott took us back to 180 Ad for Gladiator, which told the story of Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius (played by Russell Crowe), who is favored by Emperor Marcus Aurelius to be his successor because his own son, Commodus, is unfit to rule. Commodus disagrees, so he murders his father, has Maximus arrested, and has Maximus’s wife and son killed. While Commodus establishes himself as the new emperor, Maximus escapes from captivity – only to be captured again, this time by slavers who sell him off to become a gladiator. Soon he’s fighting in front of Commodus in Rome’s Colosseum… and it all builds up to Commodus challenging Maximus to a duel. Gladiator was a major box office success and racked up multiple Academy Award wins, including Best Picture. So there was already talk of a sequel in 2001, but it ended up taking more than...

Tom Holland has played Spider-Man in multiple MCU films over the years and the actor has become synonymous with the character. From his scene-stealing debut in Captain America: Civil War to the epic Spider-Man: No Way Home, the character has evolved significantly through his appearances.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Avengers: Infinity War
Spider-Man had a big role in Avengers: Infinity War, with his introduction being one of the highlights of the film. Holland’s arm hair stands up as his Spidey sense kicks in when Thanos’ minions arrive on Earth. While most believed the scene was achieved through CGI, Marvel surprisingly did it via practical means.

Tom Holland and Zendaya have not only won our hearts as the beloved Spider-Man and Mj, but there is a possibility that they are weaving a romantic web of their own that might finally break the Spider-Man curse. Yes, the recent report claims that the couple is currently talking about getting hitched soon.
Isn’t it thrilling to imagine that the one Spidey pair to make the switch from on-screen chemistry to off-screen matrimony might be right before our eyes? Given the franchise’s history, previous Spider-Man couples have steered clear of real-life aisle-walking, which makes this blossoming love story all the more enchanting—and, let’s admit, a bit surreal.

Amy Adams has been tapped to star in At the Sea, a new drama from Kornel Mundruczó and Kata Wéber — the director and writer of such acclaimed films as Pieces of a Woman and White God — as well as Hammerstone Studios, Ryder Picture Company and Ar Content.
Set to enter production in Boston in June, the film follows the life of Laura (Adams) after a long rehabilitation, as she returns to her family at their beach holiday home where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind. Now she is forced to face the following next chapter of her life without the career that gave her fame, fortune and, most importantly, identity.
Pic will be produced by Alexander Rodnyansky of Ar Content, Stuart Manashil, Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett for Ryder Picture Company, Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici and Jon Oakes, and Viktória Petrányi and Mundruczó. Exec producers are Paul J. Diaz, Maria Breese of 3:33 Creative, Lee Broda of Lb Entertainment, Jeff Rice of Jeff Rice Films, and Michael Kupisk. Zsofi Oblath and Rachel Rubin will co-produce.
Ar Content, Paul J. Diaz, and Hammerstone Studios will finance the film, with WME Independent to rep domestic rights, Capstone Pictures handling international, and Sacker Law to oversee production legal.
A six-time Academy Award nominee, Adams most recently wrapped production on 3000 Pictures’ Klara and the Sun, the next film from Oscar winner Taika Waititi, which adapts the dystopian sci-fi story from Kazuo Ishiguro. Up next, she’ll be seen starring in Searchlight Pictures’ Nightbitch from filmmaker Marielle Heller, a dark comedy she also produced through her production company Bond Group Entertainment that hits theaters December 6.
A married director-writer pair out of Hungary, Mundruczó and Wéber are perhaps best known for their 2020 pregnancy drama Pieces of a Woman, which premiered in Venice and brought star Vanessa Kirby her first Oscar nomination following its release on Netflix. Prior to that, the duo collaborated on White God, which won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes in 2014; Jupiter’s Moon, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or; and Evolution, which also played the French festival. Separately, Mundruczó directed the pilot of the Apple TV+ limited series, The Crowded Room, starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried.
Most recently, Hammerstone produced the action thriller Boy Kills World starring Bill Skarsgård, which will release wide on April 26, and the horror-thriller Don’t Move, starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock, for Netflix.
Ryder Picture Company has produced acclaimed titles like Dumb Money and Bruiser.
Ar Content is known for Cannes prize winners like 2019’s Beanpole, from filmmaker Kantemir Balagov, and 2021’s Unclenching the Fists from Kira Kovalenko.
Adams is represented by WME, Linden Entertainment, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Mundruczó and Wéber are repped by United Agents and Novo.

Tom Holland has risen to prominence as one of Hollywood’s leading actors since his debut as Spider-Man in the MCU. And it seems that the actor had a change of heart regarding his future in the franchise. As he gears up to reprise his role in the cinematic universe, he has expressed a desire to explore more possibilities with the role.
A still from the Spider-Man franchise | Marvel Studios
This stance, however, differs from his earlier uncertainty about portraying the superhero. Around the time of No Way Home’s release, Holland had contemplated his future as the superhero, saying that he was not sure if he would continue playing the character in the future.

Tom Holland’s last Marvel outing was as Peter Parker in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Holland recently opened up about Spider-Man 4 and gave an update on what stage the film was at. He mentioned that he was involved creatively in the film too and he was working with Marvel to make sure they get the quadrilogy right.

While we giddily behold the new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, Tom Holland addresses the anticipated follow-up to his last outing as the web crawler in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It has obviously been a dream run for the young actor ever since he made his appearance in Captain America: Civil War as his big debut as Peter Parker. His entrance in the 2016 film was a special one as Marvel Studios themselves would be creatively behind the character for the first time since the universe started. After No Way Home, Holland would portray Spider-Man in six MCU movies. He would take a much needed break from the character and after doing AppleTV+’s The Crowded Room, he would take a break from acting altogether.

As you prepare to make your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best Limited Series, be sure to check out our photo gallery highlighting the likeliest contenders. As of now, the frontrunner is the FX anthology “Fargo,” which is seeking the honor for its fifth iteration after winning for its first in 2014. It was also recognized here in 2016 and 2017.
FX has indeed produced several serious Best Limited Series candidates this year, including “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” “A Murder at the End of the World,” and “Shōgun.” Its most recent victories came for the first two seasons of “American Crime Story” (2016; 2018).
Having conquered this category with “The Queen’s Gambit” (2021) and “Beef” (2023), Netflix’s best shot at achieving three wins in four years lies with “Ripley.” Other strong contenders from the streamer include “Griselda” and “Black Mirror,” the latter of which won Best TV Movie every year from 2017 to 2019 but can no longer compete...

Even before Zendaya won an Emmy for starring in the popular HBO original drama Euphoria, she was a prominent figure in the Marvel film industry. Having said that, she is the only member of Sam Levinson’s series’ main cast who remains a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This will undoubtedly change if her Euphoria co-star, Sydney Sweeney, chooses to emulate Zendaya’s footsteps.
We are confident in Sweeney’s ability to carry out a variety of roles because of her work outside of the Cassie Howard role, such as her courageous performance in HBO’s The White Lotus. That is exactly the kind of talent Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, seeks in an actor when deciding who will play the next big Marvel characters on either the small or big screen.

Forget Booksmart – actor-director Olivia Wilde is about to get comic-book-smart. In an unexpected but not at all unwelcome turn of events, the Don't Worry Darling filmmaker is, according to THR, set to bring Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld's cult '90s comic series Avengelyne to the big screen. And what's more, Margot Robbie — no stranger to a superhero movie or two herself — is also aboard, and will co-produce alongside Deadpool writer-producer Simon Kinberg under her LuckyChap banner.
Now, we know what you're thinking: "Who the heck is Avengelyne? An avenger? An angel?" Well try avenging angel and you're just about there. Created by Liefeld and the appropriately-named Cathy Christian, Avengelyne debuted in Avengelyne: Deadly Sins #1 in 1995. Blumhouse and Motel Movies are behind Wolf Man, which also stars Julia Garner and previously had Ryan Gosling attached as the lead. Jason Blum produces the movie that reinvents the classic Universal monster and counts Whannell, Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira and Mel Turner as executive producers.
Additionally, Universal announced that Blumhouse’s The Woman in the Yard, which was previously set for theatrical release Jan. 10, 2025, has been removed from the calendar.

Tom Holland has been in the movie business for years now. Starting very young, he rose through the ranks and made a name for himself through his sheer talent. While it is true that he is an excellent actor, a fact that cannot be avoided is that he has Spider-Man to thank for the success he has today.

Timothée Chalamet may not have got the part of Marvel’s Spider-Man, but he’s progressing in his career at a pace that Tom Holland can only dream of. With the double success of Wonka and Dune: Part Two, Chalamet has set a box office record after decades. He is the lead in the top two highest-grossing films in the domestic market over the last eight months.

Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler are currently riding high on the success of Dune: Part Two. The two actors put on their A-Game and presented impeccable performances as Paul Atreides and Feyd-Rautha. Even before this film, the actors have been proving their mettle as actors in various films throughout their career.

I can't say if actor Tom Holland is well-suited to play Spider-Man, but I can say with absolute certainty that he is a first-rate teen heartthrob. He's handsome, affable, and dazzling in interviews. He has mastered the self-deprecating smile, and his tendency to give away the plot details of Avengers movies weirdly humanizes him. When it comes to acting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems little else is demanded of its leading men. Acting is less important than ineffable charm.

Actor Andrew Garfield is one of the most influential people in the world who gained recognition after he portrayed the character of Peter Parker a.k.a., Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man. Directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man movies served as the reboot of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, which starred Tobey Maguire as the titular character.
Andrew Garfield appeared opposite Emma Stone in the movie, and upon its release, the movie received a positive response from the audience and the critics. The chemistry between the actors, the visual effects of the movie, and the musical score were highly appreciated, and even though certain plot elements were criticized, the movie became the seventh-highest-grossing movie of 2012. A sequel followed it in 2014, which received mixed reviews. The actor later reprised his role as Spider-Man for Spider-Man: No Way Home, and fans cannot wait to see him back in action as the superhero on-screen.

Jennifer’s Body writer Diablo Cody returned to horror over the weekend with the theatrical release of horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein, directed by Zelda Williams and starring Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”). While the film may go on to become a cult favorite, it unfortunately didn’t make much of a splash in its opening weekend.
Lisa Frankenstein scared up just $3.8 million in its theatrical debut here in the United States, with Focus Features giving the film a massive wide release in 3,144 total theaters.
The production budget for Zelda Williams’ Lisa Frankenstein was a reported $13 million, so the film has quite a long way to go before it starts turning a profit for Focus Features.
The film is currently “rotten” on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with a 49% Tomatometer score. The good news? The film’s audience score is much higher at 82% fresh.

A pact between Apple Original Films, A24, Spike Lee, and Denzel Washington is making noise this Thursday with news about a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime drama High and Low. Lee and Washington are old friends, of course, with the duo’s fourth collaboration being for 2006’s Inside Man.
In Kurosawa’s High and Low, an executive of a Yokohama shoe company becomes a victim of extortion when his chauffeur’s son is kidnapped by mistake and held for ransom. The box office is very much in need of saving right now. January was pretty rough, with only the likes of "Mean Girls" and "The Beekeeper" there to keep theaters afloat. February is looking even more bleak as holdovers from December of last year are finally starting to taper off and "Argylle" underperformed somewhat. So, what (if anything) is coming to the rescue for movie theaters in desperate need of something new to show? "Lisa Frankenstein" is next up to bat and, at least right now, it looks unlikely to score a home run. That said, it may deliver a solid enough single, to expand upon the baseball metaphor here.

Tom Holland will star as Romeo in a new version of Romeo & Juliet in the West End this spring.
The play will be directed by Jamie Lloyd, the director of the retooled Sunset Boulevard, starring Nicole Scherzinger, as well as the minimalist versions of A Doll’s House starring Jessica Chastain and Betrayal, starring Tom Hiddleston, on Broadway. Additional casting for the production, which calls itself a “pulsating new vision of Shakespeare’s immortal tale of wordsmiths, rhymers, lovers and fighters,” has not yet been announced.
Before landing the role of Spider-Man in the Marvel films, Holland made a name for himself as one of the young stars of Billy Elliot: The Musical in the West End. He most recently appeared in the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room, and has starred in films including Uncharted, opposite Mark Wahlberg, and The Devil All the Time and Cherry.

We’re celebrating the theatrical release of horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein with #1989Week all week long here on Bloody Disgusting, and the wait for the movie is almost over.
Directed by Zelda Williams and written by Diablo Jody, Lisa Frankenstein will dig up someone special in movie theaters nationwide on February 9.
To whet your appetite, Diablo Cody has presented us with a hugely interesting revelation this week: Lisa Frankenstein takes place in the same world as Jennifer’s Body?!
“I am just declaring that this movie takes place in the same universe,” Cody tells Deadline. “I have decided that. I will not say that you’d see any overt references to that but I’m saying it.”
On a related note, Cody recently told Bloody Disgusting that she’s “not done” with the world of Jennifer’s Body. And if she has her way, she’ll be writing a sequel at some point soon.

Tom Holland will tackle the Bard this spring when he plays Romeo in director Jamie Lloyd’s West End production of Romeo & Juliet.
Lloyd and Holland made the announcement this morning. Romeo & Juliet will run at the Duke of York’s Theatre from Saturday, May 11 through Saturday August 3. Additional casting, including Juliet, was not announced, nor whether the production will follow the path of other Lloyd hits – including the pared-down stagings of A Doll’s House starring Jessica Chastain and Betrayal with Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Cox and Zawe Ashton, to name two – with an eventual move to Broadway.
Holland, though best known for his leading role in the Spider-Man film franchise and, more recently, as the star of the Apple TV+ limited series The Crowded Room, actually got his show business start on the stage, when at age 11 he landed a supporting part in the West End production of Billy Elliot: The Musical.

Holland, though best known for his leading role in the Spider-Man film franchise and, more recently, as the star of the Apple TV+ limited series The Crowded Room, actually got his show business start on the stage, when at age 11 he landed a supporting part in the West End production of Billy Elliot: The Musical.

Tom Holland, like a lot of the other Marvel stars, tries to dabble in parts that are different from their superhero counterparts. After the gigantic response of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Holland would play a more intense and dark role in AppleTV+’s psychological drama, The Crowded Room. The role would take a toll on the actor and he proclaimed he would take a year off of acting. Holland stated, “I love the learning curve of becoming a producer. I’m no stranger to hard work. I’ve always sort of lived by this idea that hard work is good work. I really enjoyed it, but then again, the show did break me. There did come a time where I was sort of like, ‘I need to have a break.’ I disappeared. I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on a beach. And I’m now taking a year off,...

Tom Holland, the Spider-Man himself, will make a glamorous return to London’s West End by starring in Jamie Lloyd’s Romeo & Juliet.
British actor Tom Holland will switch webs for poison as he’s set to return to the West End in a new production of Romeo & Juliet.
Holland teased a “big announcement” on his Instagram stories the day before and many were hoping it would be related to Spider-Man 4, which is currently in early development at Sony and is expected to go into production in late 2024.
Holland got his big break by playing the title role in Billy Elliott at the Victoria Palace Theatre. His transition to films happened with Ja Bayona’s terrific The Impossible in which he played the son of Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts.

You can check it out in the embed above and see Newton’s character tell a corpse, played by Sprouse, about The Cure.

Writer/Producer Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) and director Zelda Williams have teamed up to deliver an outrageously ’80s new spin on Mary Shelley’s classic novel with Lisa Frankenstein, set to arrive in theaters on February 9, 2024. Ahead of the film’s release, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Cody and Williams about their collaboration.
In Lisa Frankenstein, “Set in 1989, the film follows an unpopular high schooler who accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.”
The Coming of Rage love story stars Kathryn Newton (Freaky), Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”), Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher), Liza Soberano (Alone/Together), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) and Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room).
The comedy-horror movie draws from quintessential ’80s cinema, including Weird Science, Beetlejuice, and Night of the Comet. But that...

This Friday, February 9th, the ’80s horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein stomps into theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day. In anticipation, Bloody Disgusting is dialing the clock back to 1989 with a full week of features that dig six feet under into the year.
A crossroads year, 1989 saw the highs of the decade reach new lows across storied franchises, all while hinting at a future that was both wonderful and strange. Both new filmmakers and sub-genres emerged from the graves. It was dawn and dusk all at once.
Today, writer Alex Divincenzo kicks off 1989 Week by examining how movie maniacs such as Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Jason Voorhees were circling their own caskets. Read his essay here and stay tuned for more themed editorials and lists.

I was already sold on checking out the horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein, since it marks the feature directorial debut of Zelda Williams and was scripted by Diablo Cody, but now a clip from the film has arrived online to give me an even more positive outlook on the movie. The clip can be seen in the embed above, and what makes me so happy about it is the fact that the 1985 classic Day of the Dead, one of my favorite movies from one of my favorite filmmakers (George A. Romero) is quickly glimpsed on a television in this scene. A comedic creature chase follows, but it’s the glimpse of Day of the Dead that I really love about the clip.

The horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein, which marks the feature directorial debut of Zelda Williams and was scripted by Diablo Cody, is set to receive a theatrical release on February 9, 2024, just in time for Valentine’s Day – and to help us pass the time until the movie reaches the big screen, a tie-in 8-bit game called Slay and Decay has arrived online. You can play the game for free at LisaFrankensteinGame.com.
As described by Syfy Wire, this “delightfully retro and macabre” game allows players to “step into the shoes of 17-year-old Lisa Swallows and her rotting beau as they embark on an ’80s-era murder spree, hacking victims to pieces and evading the cops. If you can successfully outrun the law and make it to your tanning bed in time, you’ll end up with the high score. It’s really as simple as that!“
