Not great, but what is with the 1 star review
jrhaven25 April 2022
The episode had a plot, some heart, some jokes, and a lesson. It doesn't deserve 1-star reviews. 1-star reviews are for unwatchable things like "The Hottie and the Nottie", "The Room", or any parody movie since "Not Another Teen Movie."

Good but nothing exceptional
guyippy13 May 2024
This was a good episode. It wasn't bad nor average like the past couple of episodes in the last couple of seasons but it's not a hidden gem and it wasn't that exceptional.

It touched my heart a little bit and the lesson was nice.

I liked the plot with Bart and the teacher more than the B plot (The octopus and Lisa) which was kind of boring, but not that bad.

It's kind of sad that they're replacing Krabappel after all these years, but what are you gonna do, they killed her off because the voice actor sadly passed away.

I don't really understand why some people said this episode sucked, it wasn't bad.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode made me feel how I feel when I watch the majority of modern Simpsons. Not enough outright humour and uncharacteristic emotions from characters. It's been almost 10 years since we lost Mrs. Krabappel which is hard to believe. She was such an iconic character that replacing her is almost an impossible feat. While Kerry Washington is a good actress and I've enjoyed her in things, her character feels too flat and nicey nice. Not to mention Bart has already had a crush on a teacher before. So what we're left with is a recycled plotline surrounded by happenings that barely qualify as jokes. Seriously- why is the show opting for drama vs funny. The B story about Lisa and the octopus was random, but more in-line with goofy Simpsons plotlines. Also, the reveal that Bart met the teacher Ms. Peyton already after she pulled him out of the pool felt kind of shoehorned in...I guess I just wish the show would hark back more to it's colorful cavalcade of kookyness. I actually like the era from the late 90's to the early 00's where the show kind of coasted and opted for zany over heartfelt more often than not. And now that Ms. Peyton is staying- I just wonder if they're going to give her more personality than just the slightly-fun, caring, competent new teacher in town.

Bart is so out of Character!
brettw-6654625 April 2022
This is not a proper way that Bart has a crush on a teacher because he was traumatize about the time he was drowned and the new teacher saved his life with feeling embarrassed and angry at the same time, this story is way too awkward for me.

I remember he did actually had a crush on Mrs. Berrera back in 2016 until Skinner gets revenge on Bart.

Boy I miss season 27 already it has been a great season on Present day Simpsons.

My Octopus and a Teacher
studioAT7 October 2023
Look, there's nothing overly wrong here. I want to get that out of the way from the start.

I've stuck with this show through some very grim periods of its thirty-three year run (yes, you read that right - thirty-three) and this episode certainly is not as bad as some others.

However, stacked up against what has been a very consistent series thirty-three it doesn't quite compare.

There are some nice ideas, but we've either seen them done better before, or they aren't overly engaging.

If this episode had been a part of say series eleven then it would get a massively higher score from me, because that was a middling year at best, but compared like for like it's not as good.

The Simpsons Ripped Off Family Guy
3HK25 April 2022
Remember that time The Simpsons had completely ripped off Family Guy? Well, guess what? THAT JUST HAPPENED TODAY! Family Guy already touched on this exact topic in the episode Fast Times at Buddy Cianci Jr High, where Chris had a crush on his teacher.

People like to bad mouth Family Guy for ripping off The Simpsons. But what they don't realise is that The Simpsons can rip off Family Guy too!

Hear me out!

Warning: Spoilers
There is an overload of musical buildup, which is a good thing; something that The Simpsons itself never really had for a long time since... perhaps Season 13? Homer parenting both kids in a study way like he should was nice. But the rest of the episode is just absolutely horrifying. Lisa's narcissism gets Bart's attempt to woo her teacher, who woos for him(?!) into some serious trouble, and Lisa gets zero repercussions even though she started it.

I have no words left-- we are back to square one, and will likely remain in there until the show gets cancelled.
