An emotional film from life reality and the Sam is so brave
suzyemara20 January 2013
I don't understand why this movie got low ratings, i see it a movie that triggers high emotions, a real family drama and the acting and cast were great. This is a story of a young boy who is dealing with cancer and in his young age is living with the fact of his disease and knowing what to expect and has a very courageous attitude , as well we see how his family and his friends are in his support. It get's us to the deep feelings of the family and the boy and i feel that this is a very good family drama movie with a lot of meaning. It is very difficult to watch your son dying and to see him more mature than the parents. It is very difficult to be strong in these difficult time. It more difficult to have a son dye in your bed and that was the dilemma of the movie for me.

"The soul never dies."
Reno-Rangan10 July 2013
It was a cancer theme movie which was adopted from a children's novel. It tells about a wish list that made by two kids who are dying from Leukemia. Those kids help each others to fulfill their last wishes. Light hearted emotional tale. All the cast performed well. Few animated clips come now and then throughout the movie to explain stuffs.

As a movie for under agers the illness treatment and death was kept under control. Adults may complain about few things in the movie but should remember its children friendly theme.

Well made movie which shows on a different perspective of illness suffering and grief. It could be a good pick for tearjerkers but still it won't fulfill completely. Like I said a children movie about awareness of leukemia and its treatment.

Captivating and Inspirational Drama
carloscortes1915 July 2013
I was invited to an advanced screening of this film and let me just say that it was a very well written and directed film. Going into the theater I was expecting a depressing movie but I was surprised to find that it carried an uplifting tone throughout the course of this young man's journey. The acting was pretty good, especially from the young kids (Robbie Kay, Alex Etel). The cinematography was done well and the music and sound design complimented the film pretty well. The film maintained a subtle comedic tone that was balanced well with the drama, giving the audience a chance to laugh and truly connect with the characters. The subject matter of cancer might question some people but the film has a powerful message that many people should enjoy.

Ways to Live Forever = Way Above Expectations
sarahmonastra10 July 2013
When I was first offered to watch a pre-screening of this movie, I must admit I was a little hesitant to view it. Normally I stray away from any movies that have to do with cancer. However, I thankfully did decide to watch the film and I am SO glad I did. Ways to Live Forever went way above and beyond my expectations.

Though this movie centers around two boys on their journey of fighting leukemia, the tone is not one of somberness but of joy. Yes, sad scenes and deep questions of life and death occur throughout the film, but after walking away from the movie, I felt, well, joyful. There is an uplifting spirit from this movie that is completely beyond my explanation; the director did a phenomenal job at engaging the audience and pulling them into these boys' lives. Some of the best child acting I've ever seen. Cinematography was beautiful.

I would recommend this film to both teens and adults. If you don't have a desire in seeing it, still see it. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Great story
K_ss874 December 2012
This is such a great movie it leaves something in you after watching it. I think it deserves more than 6.6 rating, i am not sure if its based on a true story but it makes feel that it is. The kid Sam acting makes you feel it is real. The other characters were good as well. The good thing that they focus on the kid's needs and what he wishes to do before he dies which is better than shooting the movie in the hospital which doesn't make you bored there many adventures simple ones but still fun to watch. If you are into the drama movies with good story line and entertaining scenes this is a good choice not to forget its a touching movie.

beauty of childhood innocence
Vlad_Imirivan6 July 2012
See, 'awful' on this site means something terrible when in fact it originally meant something 'awe-ful'(wonderful) but then I suppose many word these day have been 'bent' these days to suit the 'bent' I am surprised that a 6.5 was given with no comments ??? any way.. I am giving it a 9 as I found it wonderfully thoughtful, tho somewhat withdrawn from the essential spirituality the child was seeking, and the rest of us with any common sense.. but then 'common sense is not so common these days' GK Anyway.. the movie and the acting were great, with the special touch of innocence we can all reminisce,.. perhaps a little to deep to leave under teens alone with

Definitely worth watching
zcestanque15 July 2013
I believe Ways to Live Forever is based off a children's book. It follows two boys, Sam and Felix, as they go through their daily lives with childhood Leukemia.

I was able to watch an advance screening of the movie a few months back and I was definitely hesitant at first. I personally am involved in several cancer related organizations and being surrounded by so many people affected by this disease, I wasn't really up to see another tearjerker. But to my surprise, the movie was more uplifting than it was sad, but of course we can't stray away from there being some emotional scenes with a topic such as cancer. It definitely surpassed my expectations considering the film was more lighthearted that anticipated.

I think what I like most about this movie which differentiates itself from most cancer related movies, is that is focuses more on living life to the fullest rather than dying. I appreciate the realism the movie portrays. Overall the movie was a pleasant take on such a tough subject. The acting was good, the storyline was great and I thought the soundtrack was a great fit for the movie.

Ways to Live Forever?Perhaps, but no way to describe how amazing this movie is
vivianasalinasamaral14 July 2014
I decided to read all the reviews before I watched the movie,I saw some negative ones, which I respected before I saw this film, but now,I don't understand why someone would write that.I decided to listen to the people who said positive things about it,and bought the movie on amazon.I was very excited for it's arrival and decided to watch it straight away. This movie is a true masterpiece,I'm not much of a writer, but this movie was worth reviewing.I don't want to give anything away,so I'll just leave it at this. It's worth the watch, you have a great time. You smile, you cry and you laugh.Another thing I liked very much were the illustrations and the photography,it makes you feel like you're there.Splendid film.

'Life is here and now'
SoverniX21 October 2020
A movie I watched with my best friend one autumn evening. 10 years after the film was released. Why not earlier... After all, this story turns the mind, and no matter how old you are - 10, 20, 30, 70 years! A story that somewhat resembles the work "Life on loan" by Remarque. At least that's why I watched this picture excitedly. But that's not the only reason. Surely in the life of every person (and more than once) comes that state of mind when everything around you seems so unimportant and empty, when you plunge into the world of dreams and the search for truth, the answer to the question - what do we live for... Such films, alas, are shot an order of magnitude less, but this only increases their value. And 'The path to eternal life' is an example of the very cinema that penetrates into the very depths of human consciousness. Naturally, without excessive morality and moralizing, the world of the young hero opens up before us, for whom death has already become a part of life itself, and to some extent even its meaning. To search for answers to questions, to dream, to be tormented by innermost desires - and all this with such unrestrainedness!

Appreciate life, every moment of it! Don't put off your best dreams for 'eternal tomorrow'. After all, everything is happening today - here and now! - perhaps this is how you can Express one of the many messages of this expressive tape! Involuntarily, you thank the creators and the performer of the main role - Robbie Kay. For a moment, I was suddenly uneasy while watching just the thought that... like it'S a real story. In the search immediately typed the name of the actor... he is already over 20. a sense of relief, but you understand that it is deceptive. After all, this story is a mirror of many other stories similar to it... REAL ones... You can't let go of this idea for a long time after watching it.

The film will be of interest primarily to those who often look at the starry sky, rather than the Shine of their own shoes. And for some reason it seems to me that there are always more of the first ones!

Thoughtful, reflective contemplation on dreams and death as a child
honest_reviews174 June 2022
This movie tells the story of two boys who met due to their shared illness -- lukemia. The story is presented through the recordings and writings of the thoughts and experiences of one boy as he contemplates life and what it means to die, and pursues his dreams before the time comes.

It's a simple story, but the reason for the high rating is the honest presentation and creative form of storytelling. There are no true highs or lows throughout, but it demonstrates the real effect that the death of friends, family members or the dying can have on each other.

I recommend this if you're looking for a movie which covers a serious topic in a thoughtful way.
