Sex & Nudity

  • In the first cutscene of the final mission, buck says to the rookie "Take my advice rookie, you ever fall for a woman? Make sure she's got balls." This line may be looked at in different ways. During the opening of the game men make some comments on how attractive a woman is nothing beyond mild PG level innuendo.
  • Two characters kiss.

Violence & Gore

  • As most other Halo games, like Halo: Reach, Halo 3, etc., basic gun violence, however not too extreme.
  • There's a scene when a man is hit brutally with a gravity hammer and he starts to bleed. The brute who was holding the hammer is then stabbed in the neck repeatedly with a knife and there is a lot of blood. Brutes have the same blood color humans have.
  • In the first mission you go into a hallway. There is an alien blood trail all the way down the hallway. When you get shot you bleed. Throughout the game there are many dead marines with blood surrounding them. Aliens have blue, purple, reddish purple, and orange blood. Aliens bleed a lot when shot. You use a variety of weapons to kill aliens including lasers, machine guns, shotguns, pistols, snipers, gravity hammers and more. When driving a vehicle you can shoot or brutally run over aliens. Humans bleed when shot by aliens or by you.
  • You bleed when shot and marines bleed. Aliens bleed. There are dead marines all over the city with blood around them. Aliens bleed blue, redish purplish, and orange blood. You use machine guns, snipers, mini guns, grenades, rocket launchers, and more to kill aliens. You can use cars and other vehicles to blow up aliens or run them over. On the first mission there is a hallway that has a huge alien blood trail all the way down the hallway.
  • Easily the tamest. People constantly say all Halo's should be rated T however this one especially

Profanity

  • Much tamer language from other Halo games like Halo 2 or Halo Reach.
  • The language is pretty common though. Words like damn, hell, ass, and bastard are very common whereas words like bitch, piss and shit are used but sparingly.
  • Some words like "bastard" and "shit". However, no "f-words".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A character smokes
  • Reference to drinking
  • Some medical uses of drugs. Never made clear what those medical drugs are however.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Halo 3 ODST is easily the tamest of all the Halo games in terms violence and frightening content aside from maybe Infinite.
  • Easily the tamest fps Halo game in terms of violence.
  • Some levels could emit a creepy atmosphere, as some of them are gloomy, and somewhat large.
  • Rated PG-13 for sci-fi violence and thematic material.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • In an audio log it is implied that Kinsler is making sexual advances towards Sadie in a car. When she rejects his advances he starts to grab her and threatens to kill her, it's possibly implied he wants to rape her(left unclear). He is then pulled of off her by Mike who beats him up and throws him out. This is not shown just heard. This is completely optional to listen to and easily skipped and not graphic.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The audio logs in the game can be particularly disturbing involving an alien invasion, work place shootouts, and an instance where a man is ripped a part by several people. This is all done in audio and is not shown on screen at all nothing graphic is shown just implied and heard. These are all optional to listen to most players miss them. Similar to the disturbing audio logs in Arkham Aslyum and Arkham City which are both rated T
  • There is a short one time moment where some insect like aliens eat of some human corpses, its easy to miss but quite creepy for a halo game.
