Didn't See That Coming
Hitchcoc8 March 2022
So many of these police dramas give too much credit to the abilities of the bad guys. I know it is all fiction but the evil network seems a bit too efficient. They can operate on a moment's notice and infiltrate without missing a beat. With that one complaint, it is what it is, so strap on your seat belts. The concluding scene of Episode 5 really caught me by surprise. The questions now are really fun. Is Mr. Big someone we already have met? Laws of fiction say there should not be a new major character at this point.

Do Not Mess with the Special Investigators!
lavatch8 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Young KJ Kleiner continues to harass Roscoe, and Reacher starts a restaurant brawl in retaliation.

Reacher discovers a key that belonged to Roscoe's police mentor Gray. The key opens a box in the barber shop filled with files that point to the malfeasance of Kleiner.

Linking up with his old army pal Frances Neagley in Memphis, Reacher believes that he is close to learning the name of the assassin who killed his brother. They also learn of pollution in an Arkansas River due to the Kleiners. But how does the excess animal feed figure in the equation?

When finally led to the Memphis insider, the code name "Viking" is revealed. While riding in a squad car with two Memphis cops, one of them goes berserk, fearing that he will be next on the powerful assassin's hit list for being a stoolie. The car goes into the river, and Neagley and Reacher escape. Do not mess with the special investigators!

Finlay makes a daring foray into the Kleiner headquarters, seeking files that may implicate Kleiner. Instead, he finds Kleiner with throat slashed. Wow!

The world's only strip club with no bouncers
puzgolac16 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The series as a whole is good (though it is slowing down in the middle episodes), but every now and again there is some unnecessary and ridiculous moment that doesn't really spoil, but definitely worsens an episode. In this one, it is the completely ridiculous scene in the strip club. I guess the intention was to show us how tough Neagley is, so we get to see how she beats up a strip club patron who gropes a stripper. Every strip club in the world has a bunch of gorillas on hand whose main job is to make sure that the guests do not bother the strippers, yet here they are nowhere to be found. Why? Because the writer(s) thought that it would be so cool to have a tough, strong woman beat up a sleazy man. If the series could get rid of such high school level writing it would be much better.

Upon rewatching, a couple of other things look pretty bad. One of the most annoying things in any show or movie is when the characters' abilities fluctuate wildly in order to fit the need of the moment - one moment they are super powerful or intelligent, another weak and stupid. In the restaurant fight, Reacher, whom we have seen drop huge people in prison with a couple of blows, cant subdue the rich kid and his scrawny sidekick, who doesn't look much bigger than Roscoe. (The possible explanation of him going easy on them makes no sense - he was against three guys, at least two of whom were by all accounts ready to kill him, or severely injure him, so that is no time to hold back in a fight)

"99th percentile in intelligence" Roscoe, who was recruited by FBI, CIA and, why not, the Avengers and Justice League, never found anything suspicious in her mentor's death? And after realizing that he was killed, "99th percentile in intelligence" Roscoe goes and does the most stupid thing in attacking the mayor?

The all powerful zoom and enhance makes an appearance here too. It seems that if you zoom the photo of a wound enough, you can clearly see the object that inflicted it. If the coroner zoomed a little more, he would have probably also found the photo of the murderer, with his name and address written in big block letters.

Deus ex barbershop had Gray's files and never thought of giving them to Roscoe, even though Gray told him to give them to her? He also didn't find anything suspicious in Gray's death, and never thought to talk to Roscoe about it?

Crazy good

Warning: Spoilers
Great episode and Neagley was alright. Kinda extremely tall lady aint it? Almost as tall as him..

in the books it was never stated she did not like being touched because of past trauma with men.. which was pretty much implied here..

roscoe after whining at reachers behavior the whole just goes and punch the old dude lol.. but ok.

She looked real disappointed she was far awy from reacher.. liked reacher and neagles dynamic.. i think they wasted some time there, when they were at the park or even after they got away from the car, they could talk a bit about the past.. character development is always nice neagley is a fantastic character too.. she was introduced in the 5th book but i see no problem making her debut here so she can provide some info and help.. but did not give more about reachers past..

let us see the next episode shall we?

A bit of a downgrade, to be honest.
LegendaryFang5623 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Frankly, this episode took not necessarily a nose-dive, but pretty close to that for me. Investment-wise, I mean. To me, given that there are three episodes left, this episode seemed like the calm before the storm: one last episode with setting up and building up stuff; I understand that. But it's a bit much at this point. I'm growing tired of it.

Of course, this show/first season continues the tradition of making sure something more worthwhile on a surface level happens at the end of each episode, making you come back for more, although more reluctantly now; that "trick" has grown old. Yet, of course, although reluctantly, I admit the ending was interesting, and hopefully, it means this first season will get somewhere now; come to a head.

Still, I can't shake the feeling that the writers are starting to lose their grasp on what's happening or getting ahead of themselves. I can't help but think of what some people have said, I believe, about how this first season starts "getting worse," so to speak, after the third episode. Granted, I thought the fourth episode was pretty decent: the best episode yet. With this episode, though, that sentiment's beginning to somewhat ring true for me.

With three episodes left, I have a sneaking suspicion that the ending of this episode does not mean that the next episode will "get somewhere." Five episodes in now, I'm wary. I have a feeling that'll happen in/with the penultimate episode, or maybe just the finale. At the very least, I hope the final three episodes, one or two of them, or all of them, are more exciting than this one was.

  • The fight sequence with Jack against Kliner Jr. And his cousin, Dawson, and that other guy was great. It was, without a doubt, better than the one in the previous episode against the South American guy. Maybe a different person/team choreographed this fight sequence or more time was available to do it: or it was somehow easier to do than the one in the previous episode. I'd say it was even better than the prison one against those four or five guys.

  • I don't get why the writers are insistent on having Roscoe continually shoot down Jack's speculation about the animal feed. Comedic relief? Or planting doubts in the minds of the audience; for them to think it's a red herring, that Jack's wrong? Maybe because most people would think that he's right, and he'll end up being right; so, they're trying to make people second-guess themselves. Because to me, it seems like Jack's on to something. It can't be (just) animal feed.

  • You just got to love that scene with Roscoe and Jasper. The part of enhancing the image THAT much was great, right? I guess Jasper or whoever took the photo didn't think to take a closer picture/pictures; closer pictures of something like a severe contusion. But Jasper mentioned, "Would you like me to go through _these_ for you?" There was no need to look at those, though, because convenience was on their side.

  • If I were a police officer and went to talk to a CI regarding something that's a part of an overall, widespread conspiracy/operation: not to mention doing so behind the back of the police department I work for, I would use my police car, and drive to a STRIP CLUB, AND wear my police uniform. Yes. 100% yes. To Protect and to Serve, baby. Hell yeah!

  • I like how Finlay parked right outside Kliner Industries, in his car, a car that everyone in Margrave probably knows he has, right before breaking the law by trespassing and doing an illegal search, all while knowing that the people they're up against are dangerous and powerful. And that's on top of knowing that they know you're on to them/aren't going to let it go. You'd think being a little more or rather a lot more discreet and having some forethought would be crystal clear essential; I don't know.

  • The performances by Willa Fitzgerald and Malcolm Goodwin in this episode were worthy of slight commend. Roscoe, when she said, "He left me daisies." And when she was yelling at Teale as Finlay was pulling her away. Finlay, when he was reprimanding her in the car afterward, although it came across as slightly comedic to me: but it was still decent acting. Their performances weren't top-shelf Emmy-worthy performances or anything like that, of course. But they seemed the most comfortable in their roles in this episode compared to the previous episodes. They seem to be coming into their own now with these characters.

A little better
Leofwine_draca21 May 2022
This one's a little better although still stuck in a minor rut. The car peril scene adds something new and the twist at the climax is a pretty good one. With just a few episodes left it'll be interesting to see what they make of it now.

Definitely 'loosely' based on "Killing Floor"
daviddiepusc-922697 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show has gone off the rails.

Master Sargaent Frances Neagley does not appear in this novel. She does not want to talk about 'feelings'. She is a stone cold killer, even Reacher is afraid of her. She definitely does not say "Don't mess with the special investigations unit" like some kinda bush league mantra.

Its good to see them try to give us a new Reacher adaptation, but this series can no way compare to the Tom Cruise movie. That movie was written and directed by a mastcraftsman. That movie had four Oscar nominated actors. It really shows.

No Apologies
Prismark1023 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The episode opens with Reacher, Roscoe and Finlay shellshocked with the death of Molly.

Reacher is still puzzled as to why there is so much animal feed. Everything points to Kliner Sr.

He owns the town and the cops. Roscoe finds herself getting fired by the mayor. No doubt pressurised by Kliner Sr.

A solid episode, this time with Reacher giving a beating to Kliner Jr. However the son might have more of a part to play in later episodes given that Kliner Sr was a red herring.

Roscoe should realise that she is not Reacher as she lashed out on the mayor.

The strip club scene involving Neagley was bizarre.

Not the one pulling the strings
dannylee-7808211 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
1. Reacher beats Junior 2. Roscoe beats Teale 3. Finlay breaks in

Story is slightly convoluted... not loving it but hoping for a big payoff. The whole cop car scene was pretty good. Highlight of this epsiode. Kliner turning out dead! Wow that's a twist. Ok maybe this series has hope. It's going to be hard to wrap things up in 3 episodes because this requires another villain in picture and needs that explained well. I do like the mystery element throughout the series and how it's less "smash everything" type action. But sometimes it just feels like Reacher has a superhuman ability to crack things, which I don't know how I feel about.
