- Brian Hastings: [Interrogating her at CTU] now I'm going to ask you again and this time I want an answer
- Brian Hastings: [Show her the keycard] now we know this keycard was issued to President Hassan and his family at the UN. I want to know where you got it
- Meredith Reed: I'm not saying another word until my attorney gets here
- Brian Hastings: You're already looking at a life sentence at a federal penitentiary. So if this plot succeeds and Hassan dies, I promise you the death penalty. If you give me the name of the assassin, maybe we can cut a deal?
- Meredith Reed: I told you I don't know anything
- Brian Hastings: You know who you stole his keycard from
- Meredith Reed: I didn't steal it
- Brian Hastings: Then you manufactured it: cloned it somehow
- Meredith Reed: No
- Brian Hastings: Then used it to gain access to the UN security data
- Brian Hastings: [Yells] where did you get it? Tell me
- Meredith Reed: He gave it to me
- Brian Hastings: Who?
- Meredith Reed: Omar... gave it to me
- Brian Hastings: President Hassan? Why would he do that?
- Meredith Reed: So I could have access to his private residence: when he wanted to be alone with me
- Brian Hastings: You really expect me to believe your "involved" with him?
- Meredith Reed: Believe what you want, it's the truth
- Rob Weiss: [over the phone] tell me you got something out of that reporter you arrested?
- Brian Hastings: No sir, I'm continuing to press her but she's maintaining her innocence
- Rob Weiss: She's a co-conspirator in an assassination plot: of course she's going to deny it. Listen I need to be able to tell the President we're making progress in averting this threat
- Brian Hastings: Sir, right now our only course is to go after Meredith Reed with the evidence we have in hand: my top analyst is decrypting a file we obtained from her laptop. We're hoping it provides the intel we need about the assassin she's working with
- Rob Weiss: Well, it better provide something because if your people fail and President Hassan is killed, this peace process dies with him, do you understand me?
- Brian Hastings: I understand your concerns but I assure you we're on top of the situation. I've dispatched tactical personnel to liaise with UN security forces to step up the alert level with the NYPD at the perimeter
- Rob Weiss: [before hanging up] fine, I'll have that to tell her at least. Let me know when that file is decrypted
- Captain Ravello: [Over the phone] what's up?
- Jim Koernig: Sorry to drop this on you last minute but I just came down with some kind of "bug", I've got to take a sick leave
- Captain Ravello: You could've told me earlier: your due at the UN in twenty
- Jim Koernig: Yeah, I know, it's ok, I asked Mike Farmer to cover my shift for me
- Captain Ravello: Farmer was already on this morning
- Jim Koernig: He said he doesn't mind working a double, I guess he could use the time and a half. Anyway, I already told him he could use the bike I pulled from the motor pool
- Captain Ravello: Alright, I'll take care of the paperwork. Look, you tell Mike to get his butt to Midtown got that?
- Chloe O'Brian: I need your help. I've lost contact with Jack: he called me fifteen minutes ago, and he got cut off
- Brian Hastings: This is your operation: yours and Bauer's, I don't see why this should be my concern
- Chloe O'Brian: He could be in some kind of trouble. You need to send back up
- Brian Hastings: Even if I wanted to, we don't have the manpower. I've dispatched all field personnel to the UN for Hassan's protection
- Chloe O'Brian: I watched the interrogation, I heard what Reed said about her affair with Hassan. If that's true, it supports our idea that she was framed
- Brian Hastings: And how do you figure that?
- Chloe O'Brian: Because it explains why the biometrics registered to her deception and why the "real" insider inside Hassan's camp chose her to divert our investigation
- Brian Hastings: Reed is lying: there is no "affair"
- Chloe O'Brian: What if there is? If President Hassan collaborates Reed's claim, will you "consider" sending units to finding Jack?
- Brian Hastings: Alright fine. Just so you can hear it for yourself, I'll have someone alert you when Hassan calls me back. Is that good enough?
- Chloe O'Brian: No, but it's better than nothing
- Cole Ortiz: [Briefing UN security and NYPD] CTU is confirming the link between the stinger missile attack and the assassination plan against Hassan. In response, we're going to push the traffic perimeter another six blocks and close the Queensboro Bridge in both directions until noon tomorrow: roadblock assignments are on pages two and three of your briefing packets go ahead and double check those now. CTU has also arrested an individual inside the UN who we believe is part of the plot. "Hopefully", this will yield some information about the assassin himself. Until then, we have to assume he could strike at any time and will stop at nothing to achieve his objective. His already killed five people that we know of including two CTU agents, whoever he is, his a professional, which means everyone needs to be on high alert at all times: history is happening upstairs people, and it's on our watch
- Brian Hastings: [Over the phone] I appreciate you getting back to me
- President Omar Hassan: What can I do for you?
- Brian Hastings: Well, sir, I have a matter of some "delicacy" to discuss with you
- President Omar Hassan: Go on
- Brian Hastings: Thank you sir, I know that your time is valuable so I'll come right to the point: I understand Meredith Reed is writing an article on you for the Sunday Magazine
- President Omar Hassan: Yes, that's correct
- Brian Hastings: Do you know of any reason she would be in possession of a keycard to your residence at the UN?
- President Omar Hassan: Keycard?
- Brian Hastings: Yes sir, she "claims" she got it from you and your "relationship" with her is... perhaps more than "professional"
- Brian Hastings: [after he doesn't respond] Mr. President?
- President Omar Hassan: Is there anyone listening to our conversation? Are we being recorded?
- Brian Hastings: No, sir, I'm speaking to you on a secure line
- President Omar Hassan: Then I will tell you what Ms. Reed said is true
- Brian Hastings: Sir, are confirming a romantic "involvement" with Ms. Reed?
- President Omar Hassan: I trust your complete discretion in this matter and I'm sure you understand the ramification of what I'm telling you becomes public knowledge
- Brian Hastings: Yes sir, I understand
- President Omar Hassan: I gave Ms. Reed this keycard for reasons I'm sure are clear to you. I'm telling you all this because I am convinced Ms. Reed is not part of this conspiracy
- Brian Hastings: Excuse me for asking sir but are you basing that certainty on anything other than your personal feelings?
- President Omar Hassan: No, I suppose not
- Brian Hastings: I see. Well, thank you for your candor. I assure you nothing we discussed will be disclosed from this office
- President Omar Hassan: [Before hanging up] I appreciate that
- Chloe O'Brian: You said you'd send a back up team to Jack's location
- Brian Hastings: I said I'd "consider" it and I have. Confirmation of the affair doesn't prove Reed's innocence: for all we know it's a ploy she used to gain access to UN security files and Hassan's itinerary
- Chloe O'Brian: In the meantime, Jack's still missing
- Brian Hastings: His not "missing", we've "lost contact." His phone battery may have died or more likely his in an area with bad cell reception: there's "pockets" of them all over the five boroughs, which you've known if you were from around here
- Chloe O'Brian: Fine, if you're not sending someone, I'll go myself
- Brian Hastings: No, you won't. Your concern for your friend is admirable, that file we got off Reed's laptop is almost decrypted. Depending what we find, we need you here, is that clear?
- Chloe O'Brian: Yeah
- Brian Hastings: Earlier you "suggested" I speak to you more clearly and directly. You leave the building, you're fired. Is that clear and direct "enough" for you?
- Arlo Glass: [after walking up to her at her workstation] you screwed up
- Dana Walsh: What?
- Arlo Glass: Yeah, it surprised me too: you forgot to upload a filter to my system. Without it I can't break the last encryption
- Dana Walsh: I am sorry, I will upload it to a disk for you now
- Arlo Glass: Or I could just do it at your station?
- Dana Walsh: Ok fine
- Arlo Glass: Everything ok?
- Dana Walsh: What'd you mean?
- Arlo Glass: I don't know it's not like you to make mistakes: you just seem a little distracted. Wedding jitters maybe?
- Dana Walsh: No
- Arlo Glass: I'm just asking. Cole's a nice enough guy. I can see you having second thoughts. I've always been curious what you two find to talk about
- Dana Walsh: Drop this, I'm not in the mood
- Arlo Glass: I don't mean anything by it. All I'm saying you and the "boy scout" aren't exactly "intellectual equals." It's not what makes him your "type." See now you and me for instance have a lot in common. We speak the same language, mostly tech jargon but granted it can always lead to...
- Dana Walsh: [Irritated, interrupts him] damn it
- Kevin Wade: Say my name.
- Dana Walsh: What?
- Kevin Wade: If you're gonna beg, I want to hear you say my name. Just like you used to.
- Dana Walsh: Kevin.
- Kevin Wade: Say, "Please, Kevin."
- Dana Walsh: Please... Kevin.
- Kevin Wade: There's my bad girl.
