I liked it
eriscloset29 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I mean was it the original no? Should it have been a different show...idk...I'm just a regular person how the hell would I know. I did like it tho. It was slow in some parts and I won't lie I fast forwarded through like her eating a burger because people eating isn't sexy. But I really liked it. There was something very real about it. The stupid laughs in bed. The fights. The break ups. The still talking to each other even after divorce. I mean...that's literally my life rn. So yes, while most people didn't like it I feel like it really touched some very real part of me.

Season Three Review
southdavid17 January 2023
Season three of "Master of None" was on the Guardian's top TV of 2021 list. Having rewatched, and enjoyed the previous two seasons, this third is an unusual addition, referred to as "Moments in love" it's an art house movie, spread over five episodes and is tonally very different to what has come before.

Now a successful author, Denise (Lena Waithe) has moved upstate with her wife, Alicia (Naomi Ackie). Though the couple are happy, particularly in comparison with Dev (Aziz Ansari) and his girlfriend, Reshmi (Aysha Kala), they have differing views of becoming parents, and are driven further apart as they struggle to conceive. The show re-joins the couple a various point in their lives, as the ramifications of their decisions are felt.

So, it's pretty clear that anyone expecting anything like what we've seen before is in for a rude awakening. The previous two seasons were a fairly broad comedy and even that episode in the second season, which focused on Denise, was much funnier than this is. The thing to accept is that this season isn't an unsuccessful comedy, it's not a comedy at all. It's a slow contemplative romantic drama, shot in an art house style, with pondering shots of the characters stood around. From a marketing standpoint, they could perhaps have done more to differentiate this season from the others as the "Moments in Love" imprint concept seems to have been lost on most people reviewing here.

However, I don't particularly like slow, art house, romantic dramas either. So, I can't come here an say that I enjoyed what this was. I think the performers are good, Naomi Ackie, in particular is excellent and episode four, in which she undergoes IVF treatment, was a masterclass from her. I liked how it was shot - though it's shot in England right? I've never seen anyone make America look that English if not.

It's not the disaster that people with the wrong expectations have declared it but what it is, is not too my taste either.

This entire season was terrible
keisha_anne30 October 2021
First few seasons were decent. Entire platform of show changed this season, it was absolute terrible, pedantic drivel that is not worth the watch. Ending of the season couldn't come soon enough, not sure what anyone was thinking here.

Hey, people, it's called Moments of Love, not Master of None
bslavin-2783131 May 2021
If you watch the credits you can see this season is called Moments of Love, presented by Master of None. It's a whole new show. I loved the first two seasons and was confused by this at first, but I think it was fantastic. Ansari is to be applauded for his adventurous film making, and yes, it is slow. Languorously, beautifully, sometimes painfully slow. Long, lazy shots that are more like stills. Certainly not North American. As another reviewer said, maybe it's time we grow up.

If there is anything I would criticize, it is the decision to ride on the coat tails of Master of None. I expect it was to capitalize on that series' popularity, but it really was a spin off (although that term doesn't do it justice) and should have had it's own title. But then I might have missed it, and that would have been too bad...

Did I miss something?

Warning: Spoilers
So Denise cheated with Alicia, on her new wife who she shares a toddler with? I mean, why is that just glossed over in the episode and why would her new wife be okay with her spending the night with her ex-wife? If the show is given a season 4 and they don't go back to centering around Dev, I'm not even going to bother watching. I wasn't happy hearing the news it wasn't going to be about Dev, but I still gave it a chance. Season 3 was so boring and too artsy. Don't even get me started on those long uncut scenes of doors, a sink and other shots of nothing. If Lena wanted to be the star of the show, why not make a spin-off for her? I'm extremely disappointed.

Perfect bookend

This season is so good. Great writing. Queer story where it's not just a monolithic story or queer pain on display. It's great stuff. Excellent acting. Atmospheric. Interesting. Really liked what they did with this season.

Fantastic show!

Warning: Spoilers
I have only to grievances concerning season 3:

1. Where did Alessandra Mastronardi go? I am sincerely hoping this is not chronological and that this happened before Aziz went to Italy:/

2. Why only five episodes? I just wish I had checked in advance so I hadn't watched it all in one go.

Other than that it was a great season. Loved the chemistry between Denise and Naomi even when their relationship was falling apart. Both are believable, strong and well-written characters. The last episode wrapped it up beautifully.

Not what I signed up for

Warning: Spoilers
If I wanted popcorn and someone gave me carrots I might be disappointed. If I wanted to play football and someone handed me a puck I might be disappointed. If I wanted to watch an easy romantic comedy series set in New York with Aziz Ansari as the main character and received Master of None season three I'll damn well be disappointed.

First of all it feels quite cliche. I mean come on, sudden success as a best selling writer and suddenly the marriage goes downhill because one part is busy and thus absent? I feel like I've seen it before.

And then there are these artsy long uncut scenes from one camera angle. Exclusively. Throughout the season. Mockumentary-esque. Works much better in kooky and/or funny flicks, in this season it ends up dreary, leaving the viewer longing for just a single camera angle switch.

The plot about wanting a child and struggling to get pregnant I'm sure is relatable to some. But it could have been done in a separate show, and probably should have because it wasn't what anyone was expecting or wishing for when they finally got to see the next season of Master of None. It's just a completely different and wildly misplaced show.

Super disappointed, I watched it all just hoping we'd catch a glimpse of what the show used to be. It did not.

Omg. Did I totally miss everything. Do I see 10/10s ?? Terrible
mpboylanjr-5403825 May 2021
This show was so funny and Aziz quick witted and at time wacky comedy made the show great. In short I really have no idea what the point of this season was. It should have been called "The Denise story". I'm sorry but she was good in spurts , but to revolve a season around her and to make her main focus was a bad idea and unwatchable most of the times. Thank god for the short seasons.

What's with the 10/10s ? Has to be friends of Denise character because it's from same people obviously lol. What was Anziz thinking with this drivel . So very disappointing. I really hated this season unfortunately. It was truly borderline unwatchable, and that was consensus of about 5 people I polled . What was with the filming ratios as well??? It was so bad lol.

Moving Episode
user-303792 June 2021
Everybody has repeatedly spat on every episode of the third season. Initially, yes, the shock of the new setting and pretty much entire show structure changing hit hard, but once I finally got my head around things and realised what they were doing, I... (Dare I say it) loved! It! And what an emotional and gripping finish to this hybrid anthology series now. Hahaha

👏👏Hats off Aziz Ansari 👏👏

Terrible ending
lumv30 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
People dealing with relationships in a lazy way, ended up doing to others exactly what they did to each other and ruined their marriage. Awful. I missed the two previous seasons, truly touching and relatable. This one just shows the easy, lazy, unfaithful way to deal with relationships as if it was something cool.

Fantastic, if seen in the right context.
mhedricklca24 May 2021
This show is better looked at as a film in six parts, as one episode is separated in half. We see two people during an important moment in their lives, and that sets us up to learn about these two deeply. This is fantastic, if looked at in the right context. If you watch it looking for the third misadventure of Dev finding meaning in NYC, then you'll be dissatisfied. If you go in with the intention of watching an incredible arthouse film by the same team, then you'll love it.

Don't listen to these other reviews
jeromjroos24 July 2021
If you want to see more of Dev, this is not a good season for you, if you enjoy the world this show has created, enjoy slow, fine-wine-esque content, you will absolutely love this. It's called Master of None: Moments in Love for a reason, it's not a regular Master of None season, it's something entirely different. Don't listen to these 1/10's from people expecting a goofy funny season, this season is what true art looks like.

It would be fine if the first two seasons didn't exist
gdkpn27 May 2021
This season is the polar opposite of the first two. The first two were witty, comedic and intelligent. The 3rd season is intelligent artsy and dramatic. But super slow. There is so much that happened that I guess I got lost on. I hope the next season if they even get to make one will be back to something more in line with the first two...

More like "Master of Numb"
DdoubleDd7 June 2021
Maybe could have been a stand alone film. But, to make this a season of Master of None is just ... bizarre. The connection to the series is VERY tenuous.

Was difficult to watch. Came across like an art school project. Too much style, too little substance. Pretentious. Had some reality that was pretty impactful, BUT way too depressing. Needed more lightness to allow some necessarily relief now and then. It ... wallowed.

Acting from Naomi Ackie did shine at times.

Alicia is the worst...this show trying to make me like such an insufferable selfish character is a hell of it on its own.

Pretentious and boring season
Piedradura1 June 2021
I found the two main characters a crashing bore. I'm sorry, but Lena Waithe is an awful actress. Aziz has shown us real talent in previous seasons. Now he thinks he's Ingmar Bergman or something. Well, he's not. I get it - he wants to stretch his wings. Ok - but how could he not see how pretentious this whole season was? This was a big disappointment.

It's just not good at all
lmemail-551391 June 2021
Bad writing. Bad acting. Bad camera work. What happened to what used to be a good interesting show? Very odd, slow and completely uninteresting. The show has not developed this story line enough for anyone to care to watch the painfully slow weird and uninteresting scenes. It's just odd and not clearly stated why these two odd strange characters took over the entire show.

Most horrible non related season that no one asked for
holybloodyknight31 May 2021
I guess the break Aziz took, affected his creative and personal mind.

Because this season doesnt entertain anyone he just want to appeal to specific group of ppl.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
