Are you ready for the end of the world? The first teaser for American Horror Story: Apocalypse just dropped, and it's incredibly bleak. Set to "Devil's Playground" by The Rigs, the clip starts with a fetus growing inside an hourglass-shaped womb before a series of disturbing images - including an atomic bomb and a person's face melting to black liquid - flash before the screen signaling the end of life as we know it. Not to mention, there are a few references to Ahs: Murder House and Ahs: Coven throughout. With the new teaser and the recent confirmation that Jessica Lange will be returning this season, we can already tell that season eight is going to be one crazy ride!

This week, we finally got our first look at American Horror Story: Apocalypse! The first official teaser is called the "Hourglass Teaser" and shows a ton of creepy imagery: melting skulls, gas masks, huge explosions, and a creepy fetus. We don't know about you, but there's one other aspect of teaser that really grabbed our interest, and that's the creepy song that played throughout. We did some digging and found the song, called "Devil's Playground," by The Rigs. Frankly, we can't help but wonder if it's another cryptic hint about what's to come. Now you can listen over and over to really get in the mood while you count the days until the Sept. 12 debut.

Jonathan Sothcott has had a hand in producing a whole lot of independent films here in the UK over the last decade. You may have even seen a fair few of them yourself, especially if you’re a Danny Dyer completest.

Craig Fairbrass ('Dead Cert'), Jason Maza ('Demons Never Die'), Craig Conway ('Devil's Playground') and Sean Pertwee ('Dog Soldiers') are the fresh faced foursome to new British zombie horror 'Tower of the Dead'. The quartet, who these days between them seem to be placed in every mediocre British horror offering or gangster based project there is going, will be bought together to play members of an Armed Response Team and/or a group of arms dealers who find theirselves teaming up when some begrudged zombie fellas take over a tower block. Sound familiar, then you're likely thinking this sounds very much like 2009's French horror feature 'The Horde'! Producer Jonathan Sothcott dropped us a line today to let us know that the search is over for a director and leading lady for his next upcoming feature, Strippers vs. Werewolves.
"Over the last 6 months we've been slightly out of the horror game - apart from steering the UK releases of Dead Cert and Devil's Playground - as Billy Murray and I have been working on a romcom with Richard E Grant called How to Stop Being a Loser and a quirky Danny Dyer thriller called 7Lives, but we are very much back in our favourite genre in 2011!"
"We've been busy readying our kick-ass style comedy horror Strippers vsx Werewolves at Black and Blue Towers over Christmas," says Sothcott. "One of the key steps forward was securing the right director, someone film literate enough to make the material work yet with a pedigree that distributors bought into. The apocalypse continues and this time it is an "airborne virus" that is bringing death (Quiet). This is part of the premise for first time director Carl Tibbett's Retreat. This film is currently in production in Wales (Quiet) and at the American Film Market. A showing date has not been announced for the film at the Afm, but here is the first poster.
The poster art shows actors Thandie Newton, Cillian Murphy and Jamie Bell above a lonely, isolated shack. This refuge is the only protection for characters Kate, Martin and a mysterious soldier, as a deadly virus reduces the mainland population to nothing.
A partial synopsis for the Retreat is here:
"A husband and wife rent a remote island cottage while trying to repair their marriage. One day they find a biohazard-suited soldier washed up on the beach, who warns them that everybody on the mainland has been killed...

On October 2nd the third annual GoreZone International Film Festival got under way at Leicester Square’s Prince Charles Cinema; and for the first time ever, Dread was on the scene to check it out. Our report follows along with condensed reviews of six of the films shown over the weekend.
Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, Breath of Hate, Hyenas, Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, New Terminal Hotel, Darfur, and Devil's Playground are all included, but first a recap of the event and awards show.

Having experienced the festival first-hand, however, it’s pleasing to discover a level of intimacy and audience connection that is easily lost amongst the hustle and bustle of many larger profile fests, bolstered by...

New trailer for the UK zombie movie!
Devil's Playground, the new British zombie movie from director Mark McQueen, may be a little 28 Days Later-ish, but it does offer a new twist: someone's blood may hold the key to a cure.
Ok, so maybe it's a little 28 Weeks Later-ish. Whatever. Either way, it looks pretty sweet and has a new, director's cut trailer to view before it hits DVD on October 11 (in the UK only).
You can see the other, non-director's cut at the movie's official site.

Blimey, it's a new British zombie movie!
It's been a while since we heard anything about the British zombie movie Devil's Playground, but a new viral site and poster have arrived. The site is for an experimental chemical, which, if you watch the teaser trailer, is clearly the reason for the zombie virus that spreads through the country. We always thought Devil's Playground had a 28 Days Later-vibe, but seeing how both movies are British, it seems appropriate to do a little borrowing.
Mark McQueen directed the movie, which releases onto DVD in the UK on October 11. No word yet on a U.S. release. The movie stars Craig Fairbrass (Dead Cert), Myanna Burning (The Descent), Janet Montgomery (Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead), Shane Taylor (Band of Brothers), Jaime Murray (Dexter), and Craig Conway (Doomsday). A new poster for the movie is below.

The teaser art for the next zombie themed epic coming out of the UK, Black and Blue Films' Devil's Playground, has come our way; and it's void of floating heads, pensive looking teens, and all the rest of the cliché horseshit we're spoon-fed here in the States.

Danny Dyer, Colin Salmon, Sean Pertwee, Lisa McAllister, Alistair Petrie, Jaime Murray, Shane Taylor, Craig Conway, MyAnna Buring, and Del Henney, whom you may remember as one of the villains in Straw Dogs, all co-star. Brit actor Danny Dyer is certainly adding the genre credits to his resume of late. Ever since Colin made a splash at last year's Cannes Film Festival, zombie movies are a legitimate part of the yearly festival, though none are "in competition."
Mark McQueen's upcoming infected zombie film Devil's Playground enjoyed two Market screenings at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Fellow British zombie entry Zombie Women of Satan was also there, searching for international distribution. The zombie comedy will hit UK DVD in June. For evidence, see a brief French interview with the Zombie Women below, whose assets were well-documented by the cameraman.
The Guardian also spoke with a Zombie Women representative, which can be seen here. And, not to be outdone by The Guardian, British birdcage liner The Sun also interviewed actress Loula Cherry and writer/director/star Warren Speed.

This reviewer is in a critiquing mood and that is not a good thing for E1 Entertainment's zombie rip-off, the Devil's Playground. Have a look at the trailer and see if you can find one original element that you have not seen in several other zombie styled films. Even the soundtrack is borrowed from the Resident Evil franchise and listen closely to the end. That is one of several tracks from the 28 Days Later film that revitalized the genre. Nine years later and still no one is doing the genre better than Danny Boyle from 2001. As well, there is a rumour that this is a leaked trailer for the Devil's Playground and, seeing as there is no way to verify if the trailer is legit, it is below. The film is not even listed on the E1 Entertainment website, but that is no surprise as this site updates once every six months.

Danny Dyer, Jamie Murray, Colin Salmon and Craig Fairbrass star in Playground and we've got an extended synopsis for you: London: The not too distant future. Newgen Industries, a leading pharmaceutical company company, is trying to placate a media uproar. Allergic reactions in all but one...

The Nazi zombie genre is not as huge as some may think, only 5 films populate this subgenre: Shockwaves, Zombie Lake, Oasis of the Zombies, Night of the Zombies, and, most recently, Dead Snow. Some may argue for Outpost as well, but that's about it. Shaun Robert Smith plans to add another to the pantheon.
The young British director is heading into production on The 4th Reich, which starts shooting in 3-D in mid-April. The film starts Tom Savini, Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers), and Craig Conway (Doomsday, the upcoming Devil's Playground). Here's the synopsis:

When it comes to the recent output of zombie movies, it appears the the running "infected" zombie is greatly outpacing George Romero's classic, lumbering zombie. British production studio Black And White Films have two upcoming genre films with Dead Cert, a movie about the classic struggle between gangsters and vampires, and Expose, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name about a psycho personal assistant to a novelist, and now are jumping into the zombie genre with Devil's Playground.
