''I wrote that song nearly twenty years ago and it's taken all this time to get a version of it I liked enough to release, but over that time I've sung it at weddings and funerals, and it seems to evoke a lot of different things to different people,'' said Steve Abel to the 'Stuff' website in an article published on 15th September 2015.
Steve Abel told the 'Under the Radar' website in an article published on 14th July 2016: ''-'Best Thing' was a concept dreamed up by Florian [Habicht]. He explained the idea to me and I said I'd love him to make it. We applied for NZ On Air funding and he was in Berlin at the time working with some great actors and opted to shoot it there with Adam Luxton and Teresa Peters behind the camera.''
The song was recorded by Shahzad Ismaily at Rivington 66 in New York in November 2009.
Steve Abel told the 'Stuff' website in an article published on 15th September 2015: ''The video was entirely Florian [Habicht]'s reaction to that song. He came up with that idea, with those two lovers in a room together, and the intimacy in it feels really authentic, somehow. He met those two actors in Berlin and shot it there, and I'm really stoked with how it turned out.''
Singer and song-writer Steve Abel wrote his 'Best Thing' song some twenty years before recording it on his second album ''Luck/Hope'' (2016).
