A very interesting point of view.

I only discovered this film today. A friend of mine - algerian born french citizen - taped it off more than fifteen years ago on ARTE channel. It speaks of Algerian war, in the late fifties and early sixties. No many movies about it, very few actually such as LA BATAILLE D'ALGER, L'ENNEMI INTIME, RAS and two or three more. This one is really not known and it deserves better. It shows us a very objective point of view, both sides of this unknown war for so many people. Here, there is not any cruel french soldiers vs the gentle algerian farmers; nor fierce and brutal algerian hostiles who mutilate french soldiers, cutting their "balls". No gratuitous sequences in this picture, but we understand many things that actually happened in those lost mountains, in the middle of nowhere. I think Rachid Bouchareb, the film maker of INDIGENES would have described this differently, with many efforts to show french troops slaughtering algerian fighters. "Good fighters", of course. I guess it would have been a very subjective point of view. Good Algerian vs bad Frenchies. Clichés among clichés...

The movie I am talking right now has nothing to do with that. EVERY ONE in it is on the same scale. And I love this.

Very interesting. And worthwhile.
