A wonderful surprise
sepidehzekavat4 July 2021
I didn't know what to expect from this show, I thought it might just be silly and there might not be much to it.

But I was so pleasantly surprised. It is absolutely wonderful, you will laugh, you will cry, you will sympathise with the characters. It is a lovely cast. They cover so many topics that other dramas would shy away from in this show. It is definitely worth the watch, I would highly recommend.!!!!!

Comfort Drama with a Great Message
11ovz1129 June 2021
First of all, need to say that unlike the other Korean dramas, the episodes are short (just 30 mins) and there are only 13 episodes! Makes it even more fun to binge watch.

Secondly, the drama is hilarious but with a great underlining message. This drama talks mainly about trauma, human behaviour when they are with trauma and how others see them, how easily manipulated Koreans are with just mere gossip (without fact checking), and how everyone right away judge people as "bad" just because they heard a rumour, and how their lives are affected by "scandals". And on top of this, there's a nice mystery to solve as well.

Got to say, 'Mad for Each Other' covers a lot of aspects. And it feels very real. The acting and chemistry among the leads and the support cast is excellent. You will feel frustrated when they are sad, you will feel joy when they are happy, and when they cry, you will cry with them!

A must watch!

Comfort drama

A very refreshing drama. The story is simple and the characters extremely funny. In the first episode I've almost peed myself laughing. The romance development is natural, classic enemies to lovers. In conclusion: It's really good.

Starts out funny, but is actually as serious as a heart attack.
Jodie_ds17 June 2021
The series starts out like many other romantic comedies, but soon turns into a quite sophisticated exploration of the consequences of trauma, and how we struggle to recover from it within ourselves while still trying to develop and maintain relationships with others.

Jung Woo has matured nicely since his role in Reply 1994, and Oh Yeon So is affectingly realistic as a woman traumatised by her experiences.

Definitely worth your time, and while you will get some laughs, you will also have some gut punch moments.

EDIT: Unfortunately it seems to have fallen foul of the TV viewer percentages, and the final episode (13) was the last four crammed into one! Sad.

This is one of my fav Kdrama for this year. Hilariously funny with some deep & meaningful lines. They brought mental health as theme and executed it very well & easy to watch/understand. I'm sure many people will feel really related with this story. Super recommended!!!!

This is so engrossing and fun to watch. I can't believe I did not recognize the female lead , Oh Yeon-seo, from Korean Odessey, also on Netflix.

Could have a 10 but...

Warning: Spoilers
Starts in a strange way, looks like it will get a typical dorama ending with no relief at all, you know, those strange and weird korean dorama relationships that they don't even hug themselves, and have tons of misunderstandings. However this one starts with a lot of comedian stylish, some of them exagerated, most kind of cringe, but it works, the actor is really good, however do not look like he is in his 30's. He looks way older than they intend to. But he is really a good actor. The girl is cute, acts well also.

But the main point of this review is the chemistry among them works well, however she looks younger than him, but it works.

Starts in a way that it would be the same as any other korean series, but when it comes to the last episodes it gets so tense that is marvelous, it is a real surprise when you see that something soft becomes dense, and with a darkish atmosphere.

In that point I could, for sure give this a 10, however the finalization is the bad thing here. I felt like the screenwriters got lost and they do not knew wtf do to finish it. They even tried to tell a history about the clerk girl, and that crossdresser guy, who is funny has a really good participation in the trama, but it felt like some break that did not felt ok, they did not do anything in like 10 episodes, then, fo all the sudden they tried to focus the clerk girl and the crossdresser one, just did not worked well.

And the final episode, it could be epic! But they spoiled it with some terrible car chasing some unecessary action, and the WORST: the Girl just have the worst decisions ever that is plan idiotic and do not felt real, nor fit with her character at all, the guy is the same, what you see is what you expect to see, so that is a firm character, and that grew in a believeable and reliable way.

Well but, however and therefore is a worth to watch.

Raw, deep, emotional and so sweet
hanalisss14 July 2021
This is a very well written drama, with no clichés or silly dragging misunderstandings. Everything happens with a very quick pace and you will never get bored.

Its a drama about all the emotions we go through when dealing with the events happening in our lives. Tackles mental health and social problems like abuse and discrimination but how important is to just acknowledge those issues, work on them so we accept them and get back on your feet so you can go on living.

The main leads have an undeniable chemistry and the performances of the cast are just outstanding. The friendships the secondary leads have and the loyalty towards each other is just so pure.

Its a story that will lead you through a rollercoaster of emotions, you will get angry, and sad and frustrated, but then you will laugh, feel their love and root for their happiness.

I 100% recommend this show, it's short but sweet and its well worth your time.

Two Maddies Catch🔎Some Baddies And Pi$$ Off The Condo✅Association Too! °7.7° °VG°
50fiftillidideeBrain21 June 2021
He's a cop with anger management issues😤. She's a fearful, paranoid mess🌼.

They run into each other on the street. She feels threatened and pepper sprays him, so you could say they didn't hit it off. Next they see each other at the therapist's office. Apparently they've been complaining to the same therapist about each other. And next they see that they live next to eachother. WHOOPS!

From that point on, it's the mayhem one could anticipate from two unhinged (but good, underneath it all) persons who each try to bend the other to their will, and in doing so, give no space for peace. They drive each other truly crazy.

Before the end, they'll get the gangsters and drug dealers involved, another neighbor will help Nah Hwi-oh dress up as a woman so he can go undercover while on suspension, thus, the cops jump in for a round along with the convenience store clerk, a deliveryman, parents, the condo association, and the neighborhood watch. High drama it ain't. It's meant to be fun and to make us smile. It is. It does.

They include a K-drama trope in the last couple scenes that usually is awful, and it is the same here: MSS, or mandatory separation syndrome. MSS involves couples, who once they get together, must separate. 'I love you! Finally, we're together! Now I'll catch you later...' Huh?

Sometimes, it's a good thing - a generous 15% of the time. On top of that, most of these people are pushing 40. They ain't getting any younger. All flights appear to be grounded as well, because, even if the separation is 4 years, they never seem to visit each other in that time period. In MFE it is brief, we can let it go with a warning.

MFE is 13 half-hour episodes, so it is less than half the usual length of other Kdramas. So get the 🍿, sit back, watch, and grin.

Crazy, funny, sad, entertaining and incredibly lovable show
Booboboo17 July 2021
This is a show about how community, love, trust are what saves people when hitting rock bottom. It's very real depiction of trauma is hunting, but the show also has room for slapstick, fun and joy en masse.

The actors seem to enjoy themselves playing. Short, well-written episodes. Uncommonly for a Korean show, it develops fast, is very raw and real, work life plays a role, but it's not as much center stage as it tends to be.

Strongly recommended!

Extremely Promising Series Utterly Destroyed in the Last Two Episodes!
spasek27 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure if there is anything worse in television shows where you invest time in a series that is going really great for you, and then it collapses like a house of cards at the very end.

When you destroy the ending of a series, it destroys the series itself, regardless of how good things were before. That is just a fact. The only reason my original score of "9" didn't go down to "1" is because the performances and literally 11 of the 13 episodes were really good. The last two episodes were so bad that I nearly gave up the series on the spot.

Two people suffering from mental issues end up living next door to each other. Min-Kyung is suffering from extremely low self-esteem and is the victim of abuse. It's also very clear that she does not like herself. Hwi-Oh is a cop on suspension who is trying to deal with anger management issues. The premise is quite good, setting up some very humorous scenarios between the two.

However, as I stated above, the last two episodes are costly to the series, as if the writers piece-mealed everything together to make a horrific picture.

First, Hwi-Oh is not a very good cop or even a realistic one. He allows Min-Kyung to go into an abandoned building by herself. He also doesn't find it remotely suspicious that the abandoned building is occupied.

Min-Kyung swaps from loving Hwi-Oh to helping him to abandoning him, to loving him, to moving away within the span of two episodes. Of course, this doesn't even serve as a red flag to any sane person that this is a person to stay as far away from as possible. Not to mention the "no explanation" of the capture of Min-Kyung's abusive boyfriend at the very end. It would have been more credible to have a fairy appear out of thin air and scream, "That's him!" instead. It was also laughable to see Hwi-Oh chasing after Min-Kyung not once, but TWICE! And, of course, Min-Kyung changes her mind more rapidly and suddenly than a jackrabbit on a hot date! By all intensive purposes, even after the series ended, one has to wonder if she'd already changed her mind about Hwi-Oh...again!

We also have a crime plot that miraculously resolves itself in the span of about five minutes!

Also, one of the silliest things I have ever seen was Min-Kyung's reaction to Hwi-Oh beating up her sadistic ex-boyfriend as well as the fact that as a cop, the officer interrogating Hwi-Oh at the station could have easily looked into the ex-boyfriend's record. Never mind that Hwi-Oh doesn't even bother to suggest this or offer up any kind of a defense, which was beyond ludicrous!

The car chase scene was beyond absurd as Hwi-Oh rolls down his window and tells the ex-boyfriend to pull over with an unconscious Min-Kyung in the passenger seat. Again, not a very bright cop. Especially when he jumps on the hood of the car. When did this become like a bad 70s/80s action flick?!

Like poor, amateur writer, they make sure everything is all nice and tidy at the very end, regardless of how implausible it was.

We also have a side-story of a covenience store clerk and a cross-dresser that serve absolutely no relevance to the story at all. They literally add nothing.

In short, what started out as a well written series, quickly turned into a convoluted hot mess in the space of its last two episodes. Traffic accidents have taken longer than that to develop!

Refreshing
singakd8 July 2021
Much like my peers before, this is definitely a feel good drama. But most importantly the male lead, Jung Woo knows how to use his facial expressions and acting skills and isn't just yet another pretty mannequin boy (much like all 20 year old kdrama actors that can't be bothered with acting, it creates crevices around their pretty faces). It was absolutely refreshing to see great acting and a simple yet deeply touching script and cast. Highly recommend watching it.

Good Enough
PennyReviews28 June 2021
Korean Drama " Mad For Each Other " is a short drama that manages to pack in not only romance and comedy, but also deeper issues that were all well explored.

The story starts on a comical note, as the viewer gets to know who's who, and the two main characters get into one misunderstanding after the other. In that beginning, the male lead is more likable and gets the biggest part of sympathy, as the female lead acts, well, crazy. But, as the story gets revealed, slowly but steadily, everyone's actions are justified and the story turns more dramatic, enhancing into issues like dating violence, family dynamics and relationships, even gender identity. And even though the drama is short in length, everything is blended nicely and even the romance gets a smooth pacing.

As for the performances, everyone did a great job with their characters and even the side characters were enjoyable.

So, overall, eight out of ten, because the ending was a bit cliche.

Everyone is a little mad !
alaningle711 July 2021
A suspended police officer has a new neighbour in a block of flats who has a painful past. Both share a psychiatrist who is treating them but can these two damaged people help to heal each other ? Great acting, and a believable romance between the leads with comedic moments make this worth a watch. Well written and directed and you realise we are all damaged and just need someone to understand.

Everyone Besides Us Is Crazy
kcobb-1051121 July 2021
A refreshing poignant drama with amazing laughs sprinkled heavily throughout! I absolutely loved the actors' portrayals of the main characters and the take on their respective traumas and mental health. Though they get very little screen time, this drama does not waste any supporting or minor characters whose own mental health and vices are interwoven into the story and used expertly to push the lead characters through their growth. This drama's take on societal views of what makes a person "crazy" and the double standard that's created when not admitting our own shortcomings and looking down on others for having "larger/more extreme" vices was refreshing and thought provoking. The largest shortcomings are the escalated climax that leaves the viewer feeling rushed and the main antagonist in each main characters life not reaching their fullest potential, and it just ends way to soon - left me wishing the last 2 episodes would have been stretched into atleast 4 episodes, if not more.

Rage machine
federicoprovenziani30 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I partially agree with the statement that this a show to watch... But i agree too with all flaws written on some (too few imo) others reviews. There are some things that happen in this show that makes me scream, expecially in last 2 episodes. Here a list:

1 part time girl and samantha were useless side characters with boring development

2 cop's parents were useless too, as well as neighbors and cop's previous fiance

3 if you remove from this show all the plot of the blonde guy chased by The cop (i don't remember any of their names), it would be better

4 i absolutely get MAD at the violent dude that poisoned Howi, and all the things he made at Min-kyung. I honestly felt this was really too much, expecially when they released him from prison. His catching at the end was cold and didn't feel any sense of gratification while watching it.

5 the last episodes show some HUGE Red flags in main characters love story, they both seems not ready at all. Expecially the cop that hit Min-kyung (honestly idk why she didn't Run away forever from him at that point)

While writing this review i admit to myself that i loved this serie 100% because of Min-kyung. I got so pissed off while watching her TERRIBLE story, i just wanted to protected her for all the show and find she's precious. So my vote is just because I'm a Oh Yeon-seo simp.

Nana829823 June 2021
Everything is good about this drama. How characters are written, the plot and story, the way they have shown social issues, styling... etc. Every good thing are gathered together to make this drama a beautiful short comedy series wich is the best I've ever seen in its own style and genre. Don't miss it. ✊

Entertaining enough
wheatley-2023011 April 2023
This series offers a sometimes uneven blend of comedy, romance and suspense. Fortunately it revolves around two likeable characters striving to overcome their personal challenges and their battle gives enough for us to hang in there with them. As their relationship moves beyond antipathy towards understanding they offer an ever better reason to enjoy their story.

With anger management issues on one side and anxiety issues on the other this is an emotional journey. The two lead actors give it everything they've got.

I did not always believe the actions and reactions of the characters, but this was sufficiently entertaining to warrant sticking with it nevertheless.

I laughed a lot about this serie right from the start. Well thought out and with a serious story. That a broken heart can do crazy things to you. Or difference between owning and loving someone. Always enjoy these series. There are always meanings behind which you recognize or understand things. At first I thought it was going to be an over the top serie, but I really liked it.

Odd Rom Com Drama Mix
polsixe23 June 2021
Usual boy meets girl story has some added grit and actual physical contact between the adult leads. Actor Woo Jung is by far the more expressive of the cast portraying a wide range of emotions. A trendy, modern side story adds some filler.

Good writers bring laughter to sensitive subject
PalmBeachG19 May 2022
Mad for Each Other on Netflix has some pretty good writers who could bring humor to mental health issues and had me laughing hysterically and got me hooked in the first 2 episodes. You just have to lighten up and laugh. It's ok not to be ok and also it is ok to laugh. Also, the neighborhood is, believe it or not, realistic - I know of one in the Chicago burbs where it could have been a documentary - between the crazies, the comfort dogs, the nosy condo associations, the drug dealers in the neighborhood, trash bins police, the scary parking lots and more - Good job on the series.
