Together, Always

Warning: Spoilers
Ofelia is a decent episode furthering the plot. It's sad to see Daniel in that state, after everything he went through. The dementia storyline gets stale, but it is well acted. Arno meets his end in this one, and the Stalkers eventually join the rest of our group.

Luciana makes a really hard decision. She knows that when Daniel thinks about finding his daughter, he is determined and focused, and she uses it to her advantage. It's nice to finally see some characterization for Luciana.

The choice is vicious and devious, but at the same time the end may justify the means, and she values getting her people safe more than her relationship with Daniel at this particular moment.

Overall, the episode sets the stage for the later episodes. It plays on dementia, ethics, promises, murders, family, and some other concepts. It's not the best, but definitely worth watching, and a stepping stone for the Tower storyline.

The best episode of 7B, but still held back by illogical plot lines.
frankiesilver-9183610 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's always a pleasant surprise to get a Daniel episode and Alycia directing is the icing on the cake. I still really don't like that they went down the path of giving Daniel a memory loss story, but I think it's handled interestingly here.

As annoying as his persistence in believing his false memories is, it's still hard to see him struggle and this mixed with facing the hardships of never making peace with Ofelia is incredibly sad. It's good to see a Season 3 plot be re-addressed for once.

This is all also more acceptable because they haven't completely butchered Daniel, and this is shown by how ruthless and unstoppable he still is. Because of how pitiful the Stalkers are, it's not as impressive here but great to see nonetheless.

Speaking of the Stalkers, I was very pleasantly surprised they went ahead and killed Arno. A sick death for an awfully-boring illogical villain.

Even with memory loss, Daniel proves he is still one of the most resourceful bad*** characters and Ruben is killing it with his performance. I'm also very happy they've acknowledged he's the best pick to take on Strand. I hope that leads to an exciting battle between the two.

Although my issues with 7x11 don't come from Daniel, but rather from Luci and Wes.

Luciana is a character I think has long overstayed her welcome ever since Nick's death in Season 4. I am happy they have finally acknowledged her lack of a point in the story since then and have given her an arc with Daniel here.

Daniel calling her family was a very sweet scene and it makes her confuse him and lie to him later so that he'd be determined to take down Strand even more messed up.

I always thought she was a bit of an a**hole, so I don't think it's too out of character, but it has caused me to lose any remaining care for her either way. I hope this leads to a death where she sacrifices herself after realizing she selfishly went too far.

Unlike with Luci though, Wes' decision to betray the group seemed very out of character. I can't see him doing that to Alicia, and his motives didn't make any sense anyway. I'd be okay with him dying soon too.

Overall though, this is easily still the best 7B episode so far and it progresses the plot while still being a bit slow. Here's to hoping the next episode is another improvement.

A slight improvement, but still not great
matp-4760024 April 2022
Was great to see the gang together this episode, I love seeing Dwight and Morgan together. Luciana, Daniel and Wes got some much-needed character development this episode which is good because they have been seriously neglected by the showrunners the last few seasons. Wes now has an interesting evil arc which is cool to see, one of the few interesting character arcs to come out of this season. Luciana almost has more screen time and dialogue this episode than in all of seasons 4-6 combined.

Thats about all I can say that was good in this episode. Cant say I like what the writers have done to Daniel, who is becoming an annoying character despite being one of the best things about seasons 1-3. Also, Why couldnt we follow Dwight and Sherry instead?? The characters mention that they have gone on a run to retrieve a cache of weapons surrounded by a herd of walkers, but instead we have to watch Daniel just act like an idiot for an entire episode? Really? It would have been a much better episode if it had focused on Dwight and Sherrys adventure instead.

Not sure how much more of this season I can take. I really hope next episode steps things up big time.

Finally a good episode
justdan202325 April 2022
At first, I didn't like it because it shows Daniel acting like a careless idiot. But then, slowly it shows the Daniel that we know.

And Luciana deserves her screen time.

And Wes...sigh.

"Your daughter is dead, Daniel" (7x11)
Sam_Ash_7626 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's no secret that Fear has had a rocky season, perhaps its most inconsistent ever. Seasons 4 and 5 were mostly awful with only a few good episodes between them, they were consistently awful, where as Season 7 has been about 50/50. You tune into this season and either expect something really fun ('The Beacon', 'The Portrait') or a train wreck ('Reclamation', 'Mourning Cloak'). Even the fun episodes have flaws in them that when explored make their stories mostly fall apart, but with both this show and Walking Dead, you look past these flaws mostly just for enjoyment, this is a zombie show after all.

The anthology format is something that greatly benefited this show in its first half of Season 6, a chance to flesh out characters who still even after years of story telling hadn't been fully explored. But this method of story telling should have ended after the completion of 6A. By now it feels tired, tacky and a cost saving measure on actor's salaries. It provides far less time for our group of characters to bond with one another and makes their character relationships feel so much more hollow than the main series. The first 3 seasons were great at telling an overall story about the Clark family, interspersed with great character work with characters the family meet whilst on their journey (Daniel, Victor, Troy etc), with that cast of characters you really felt like you knew each person and they were developed really well across those seasons.

Unfortunately as time has gone on, the story has continued to add so many characters that they can't possibly have the run time to flesh out each one. Luciana has become a shell of her former self since Season 4 began, adding nothing to the story and instead being a background character that very rarely has anything of importance to say or do. She was a great addition to the cast in the original seasons and its a shame that the writers have treated her this way in the last few seasons, but thankfully she gets her time to shine alongside Daniel in this episode.

There are still some flaws here and there (Arno didn't need to die this early and trusting the stalkers and allowing them in the submarine even though they were Teddy's followers, essentially psychopaths, is a terrible story decision), but the episode is mostly an explanation of Daniel and Luci's relationship, dealing with his PTSD and its a great watch. Rubén Blades is a brilliant actor (and musician) and deserves far more consistent writing than this show has provided him in the past few years, but when the writing is good, he shines. One of my favorite episodes across the walking dead universe is Season 3's '100' which expertly tells Daniel's story from the middle of Season 2 to that point in the story, it's a brilliant, harrowing journey and this episode mostly gave me vibes of that story, but to a much lesser and lower quality extent.

Luci's decision in regards to Daniel's memory is very controversial, on the one hand I'm okay with the story choice but having Luci be the one who actually lies to Daniel is something I'm not quite okay with. I don't think she has it in her to act this way, especially given her anger against Arno when he was lying to Daniel about Ofelia earlier in the episode. But also we haven't had the opportunity to learn more about her personality and the development of character because we've spent literally no time with her in the last 2 seasons, meaning that the version of her that is in my mind is very much the version Erickson crafted in Seasons 2/3, AKA, the version I don't think has it in her to do this to Daniel.

8/10.

"Ofelia" is a huge improvement but still has miles to go, it has great acting and direction
Holt3442 May 2022
Alycia Debnam-Carey made her directional debut with this week's episode of Fear TWD. The direction and visual storytelling is quite great, the camera work and cinematography are amazing, overall a gorgeous looking episode. It was a great directional debut, I did think there were too many cuts though. The sound editing and musical score is fantastic. The flaws from season 7A are still present, and the writing is extremely flawed. Some of the dialogue and motivations are stupid and very forced, I just don't get why almost all the characters has to be so mysterious and not upfront with things, it continues in every episode and it feels like the showrunners like that kind of writing, well I don't. Andrew Chambliss and Ian B. Goldberg and the staff writers are unfortunately unable to write good dialogue. They come out sounding wooden and unrealistic, then again, dialogue can be hard to write. But these guys are poor at it, Fear deserves better writing overall, like the quality it had in S1-3. But the dialogue was actually a little bit better than previous episodes.

Luciana and Wes test the limits of their patience when Daniel's worsening mental state ends up endangering them all. That's the premise of the episode and well I liked it, because of how the writers finally wrote Daniel the way he's supposed to be. It was unpredictable but I think showing Dwight and what the others were up to would have satisfied everyone. But I was satisfied and entertained throughout the episode. To explain Rubén Blades' performance in one word, fantastic. Danay Garcia was also quite great. The dialogue and writing the two actors got was better than what they've ever had during Andrew Chambliss and Ian B. Goldberg run.

"Ofelia" was surprisingly a good episode (for Season 7), it brought focus back on the characters of Luciana and Daniel, giving them an episode I can gladly say I liked. It still got a couple of flaws but overall a good episode. Daniel and Luciana are two characters that have gotten too little screen time, the showrunners tossing them aside like they don't mean anything, they justify that with this episode. I still strongly believe the individual stories/episodes don't work like they did in S6 when everyone was apart. As Fear used to be a serialized show and did it perfectly, I can't say the same with Andrew Chambliss and Ian B. Goldberg run. Though "Ofelia" is an episode many will like, for the bigger picture and story arc, it doesn't really deliver. But Daniel and Luciana's character arcs are developed further in this episode and they are two characters that truly matter in this civil war against Victor Strand, with both of them having known Strand for a long time and Daniel being the one who has a feud with the man. Finally the showrunners and writers got Daniel right, Luciana too. Wes was also great in this episode, finally. I want to get a criticism out of the way, something that the writers have continued to do, it's the radio broadcasts. They never learn and how they get captured always feels forced as they don't have any other ideas. If you put aside logic and realism, the plot works, sad to see the writers not doing any research. By now, I should have learned to keep my expectations low, but with no appearance of Alicia who should have been with Luciana and Daniel instead of Wes. But also no screen time for Victor Strand and his community, it makes this story arc feel one-dimensional. Season 3 is a good example of a storyline being full of depth and serialized drama, and the civil war in this season had the potential, sadly it never hit its potential and probably never will.

Let's be honest, the last few seasons have sucked. This episode is on a level far worse. It was the deciding factor that made me quit the show. Terrible writing. Boring. Made no logical sense. Great actors forced into terrible dialog and storyline.

It was super emotional to see all the ogs back. Luciana & Daniel have this beautiful father daughter bond and it made the whole episode emotional. And Alycia Debnam-Carey did an amazing job directing this episode. Honestly the best one so far.

Only Because I Get It
Coolmade200015 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm rating the score of 7 out of 10 because of the usual episodes made. However, I did not give a full score only because I had trouble accepting the direction of Daniel's character arc. The handling of Daniel's mental health never really adjusted to my viewing experience. The episode from the previous season, 6x10, which started telling Daniel's arc on his mental health, didn't get me invested because it caught me off-guard in a confusing way after watching the kind of character he was for the first 5 seasons. I'm glad things are starting to get better for Daniel and hope his mental health story arc progresses from here.

It's about time Danay Garcia, who plays Luciana, gets more screentime since season 4. My goodness. Watching her for the past three seasons felt like she was just existing and not given any story depth until now.

In addition, I'm also glad Colby Hollman (Wes) is also given more screentime.

When Luciana manipulates Daniel that Ofelia is trapped in Strand's tower for the sake of the group, I didn't have a problem with that story decision but that could've been executed better in my opinion, like the scene needed better use of cinematography from Luciana's perspective to Daniel. Other than that, I actually look forward to a potential conflict between Luciana and Daniel from this scene.

Speaking of Daniel claiming he lost his cat before the radiation blast, I've been wondering where Skidmark has been, and I still don't know what happened. I guess the writers didn't have enough room in this season to include him.

A difficult watch
Rob-O-Cop27 April 2022
Not because it had emotional connection or topical subject matter, no, I mean it was really difficult to keep the episode running and not switch it off.

Now we know why the good actors are sticking around for this stinking sinking ship. They're allowed to practice their directing skills on this summer camp of a series. Alycia Debnam-Carey's turn this week and, was it any good. Hard to tell as the material was so bad.

As others have noticed it's the same plot point over and over. Daniel's dementia, and the others running round in circles in order to placate him.

It wasn't interesting the first time they used it way back in the second season and it's no more interesting 5 seasons later.

It all seems a diversion to hide the fact they've got no story arc. They've got nothing to say but they've still got to fill the space.

mhorg20182 May 2022
So, other than no writer on this show has passed high school science, they've also ignored any research on dementia. This show just gets dumber and dumber. Everyone from show dinner to the writing assistants needs to be fired or this slop needs to be canned.

Finally a great episode this season
Primwinter1 May 2022
The OGs get focus in an episode that moves the story forward (not a bottleneck episode like the prior two). Finally Luciana and Daniel get a chance to show up and contribute to the story. The writing is improved, and the directing is great. Alycia Debnam-Carey did an excellent job with her directorial debut.

S7.E11 - Somewhat Decent [6.5/10]
panagiotis199314 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S7. E11) My Reaction / Review for Fear The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 11 ''Ofelia'': Episode 10 was awful and I gave it a rating of 4/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Its so sad to watch Daniel suffering from dementia. I wonder why they have Wes in the show? The dude does literally nothing, a completely useless character. Poor Daniel thinks that he will find his dead daughter. I really enjoyed watching Arnold's death. Daniel did one thing right. Wow Luciana starts lying to Daniel, telling him that Ofelia is alive in Victor's tower? That's awful. Daniel is already very confused, he doesn't need that, that's bad. Luciana thinks that Daniel will find a way to take the tower from Victor. I wouldnt trust Daniel with anything right now. Wes is leaving? Yes please, just delete that character already, that would be awesome. Where is Alicia? She was the one talking about an all out war. Wow Wes is a traitor? He wants to help Victor save the tower? Overall this episode is decent but nothing great. My rating is 6.5/10.

confusing but progression
oscargiebels28 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Im a little confused where and when this all takes place after the last couple of episodes. The memory loss is getting very annoying, i know it is a big part of character 'development' but hearing the same thing over and over bores me. At the end when they kill Arno, the members of the Stalkers just blindly follow luciana and wes to work together after their leader just has been killed?? That is very unrealistic to me because they knew him for a very long time.

Whats good about this episode is the progression the story now made and how close we are to something big happening.

Sidenote: The wierd part is that it is not entirely clear why morgans group thinks they are in their right to steal the tower from strand as it is actually his. I know Morgans wife and baby are their but that was somewhat their choice, just as everybody else. So why would they want to take over the tower? For safety? I dont know why the writers think that would fit the 'good guy' mentallity of morgan jones.

"Ofelia" merges past with present, allowing for a deep dive into Daniel's character while honoring his daughter's memory
fernandoschiavi1 May 2024
While the group pursues a weapon cache, Daniel wanders off, chased by Luciana and Wes, convinced that Ofelia is still alive and is sending him a message from The Abigail. The three are captured by the Stalkers who attempt to extract the location of the weapon's cache from them, hinting at the existence of a greater danger and Luciana attempts to get Daniel to accept that Ofelia is dead. After sending half of the Stalkers on a wild goose chase, Daniel overpowers Sage, who says the Stalkers never had Ofelia, causing Daniel to kill him.

Furious, Daniel lowers Arno into a pit full of walkers before Luciana and Wes can stop him. As he dies, Arno reveals the existence of the crater full of radioactive walkers and warns them that someone is letting the walkers out. Luciana convinces the remaining Stalkers to join Morgan's group in their fight against Strand and lies to Daniel that Ofelia is in the Tower, as she knows they will need Daniel's help against Strand. Disgusted by Luciana's actions, Wes defects from the group and goes to the Tower.

Season 7, episode 11 of "Fear the Walking Dead," titled "Ofelia," delves into the themes of legacy, redemption, and the power of memory. This episode is both a tribute to the character Ofelia Salazar and a poignant exploration of her father Daniel's continuing struggle with his fading memories and sense of purpose. The episode elegantly balances emotional depth with the survivalist narrative that has characterized much of the season.

The episode kicks off with Daniel discovering an old videotape labeled "Ofelia," leading to a series of flashbacks that intertwine with the present-day events. These flashbacks are carefully used to weave Ofelia's past actions and ideals into the current storyline, highlighting how her legacy continues to impact her father and those around him. The narrative focuses on Daniel's journey with a new group of survivors who are inadvertently connected to Ofelia's past, adding layers of complexity to the character interactions and plot development.

One of the most compelling scenes is a confrontation between Daniel and a former adversary of Ofelia, who now finds themselves reluctantly allied in the fight against a common enemy. This encounter not only serves as a crucial plot pivot but also reinforces the episode's thematic focus on forgiveness and the cyclic nature of violence. The dialogue is rich with references to past seasons, providing long-time viewers with satisfying nods to the series' history while also presenting a standalone story of conflict and resolution.

"Ofelia" merges past with present, allowing for a deep dive into Daniel's character while honoring his daughter's memory. The episode's emotional weight is balanced with sufficient action, maintaining tension and engagement throughout. Although it momentarily sidelines the main storyline's progression, it enriches the narrative world by focusing on the personal transformations of key characters. Ultimately, "Ofelia" is a testament to the enduring impact of those we lose and the paths they leave us to follow.

Tedious city
Why do I keep watching this, habit, maybe. It is maybe not as badly written as world beyond, but I think they have run out of ideas, and are just milking it for suckers like me. Fear should have initially taken a different story line. I would have loved to see it from a People " in power" point of view, and maybe some scientific discussion of Why?

Danay, Ruben, Alycia
mkwhitten2 May 2022
Enjoyed this episode, vast improvement from previous episodes. Alycia did a great job directing Danay and Ruben. The OGs knocked it out of the park. The only negative is the writers. For some reason the list of writers cannot write dialogue to save their lives. I mean the actors and the director can only do so much with cheesy dialogue. If they want to improve season 8 they really need to go hunt down some better writers. Unfortunately I don't think the showrunners are even aware of the lack of quality writing in these latter seasons.

Better , but...
smoon-3778923 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode (sad to say) has been the best one of the 2nd half. Daniel, as frustrating as has been has really good character scenes. Struggling with his dementia and getting frustrated at Lucianna are things that really happen in real life and that I can relate. That being said I hate how they bring in Arno and then kill him off - dude was my favorite character as he had motive to do what he was doing and then Daniel just kills him with his own trap? Come on now - Arno could have been a key player the rest of the season so I hated how they did him.

Will be interesting to see the rest of the season play out with the Tower in play.

Keeps telling the same story over and over again
rmmil24 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Breaking news: Daniel has dementia! ....wait that's nothing new? It's the same story FTWD has been retelling for seasons now? Oh yeah!

So FTWD has this funny trick it's been playing since season 4-5 where it keeps retelling the same story with each character, slightly reshuffled, attempting to make it seem fresh. It's not fresh. "Daniel is losing his mind but is a useful crazy person" has been a very stale plot line on this show for years, and here we go again!

The stupidest part of this particular retelling is the ludicrous concept that Daniel is knee-deep in his insanity, but somehow he's the only person who can outsmart villain Strand.

Because yes, that's exactly how dementia works, you have no idea how to make toast anymore, but cunning military battlefield tactics are found in a different part of the brain, so these are unaffected. This is common knowledge in the medical field.

Writers this week: "We won't bore you with the details of Sherry and Dwight's adventure. FO, Sherry and Dwight."

No, clearly the far more compelling adventure this week was watching Tree Painter Wes and Luciana chasing Daniel around on landlocked boats.

Btw still no Madison. Still no sign of her in next week's preview. Still think she won't show up until episode 15 or 16.

Great to see characters from the beginning
azucena-760252 May 2022
Lately, the initial essence of the series has been lost a lot with meaningless plots and little argumentation, so I think that Alycia has done a great job with the plot that she was made to work on.

It was nostalgic but very nice to see an episode that reminded when the series was at its best, also another good point is that they made considerable use of the mother tongue of the Latin characters again.

In conclusion, I think they did the best they could with what they had.

Oh wow, what a shame this show has become
clausonfilms24 April 2022
I have been a Walking Dead enthusiast for as long as I can remember. That being said, this show hurts me with how abysmal is has become. The last three episodes make me feel ashamed to be a fan of this show. I have a four strike rule when it comes to TV shows. After four bad episodes in a row, I quit. Unfortunately, I think that's going to happen. What a disappointment this show has become. The show runners should feel embarrassed.

This episodes focuses on Wes, a nobody character, and ruins Daniel. I hated him by the end of this episode. This show needs to fire the writers and hire anyone, and I mean ANYONE instead.

Dead show walking
bcbrown-6748727 April 2022
This show has died and is still walking around. The producers need to show some mercy and put a knife in it's head. The characters and the story have gotten dull and lifeless. It's no longer about zombies. It's more concerned with petty feuds between the characters.

How bad this can get? Scenarists: Universe is the limit.
Daxy_934 May 2022
Why is so hard to make good zombie tv show?

Why we must watch same story over and over again?

Who and why hire these amateur scenarists?

If scenarist were good from the begining, good actors like, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Kim Dickens, wouldnt left the show.

You didnt improve show since Season 1 which was the best season (same goes for TWD).

Why every season of TWD and FTWD must have some rival group to fight against?

It's same boring plot you sell us every season.

I want to see some action, survival, running for supplies, moving around the city, village, world. Anything except this pathetic Spanish telenovela plot.

You keep ruining good characters. Daniel was one of them. Morgan, even Victor was okay until submarine and this nosense tower thing.

You always wanna show us some deep meaning, some message. Let it go and give us a quality story and action. Now it's too late for any change, you destroyed the series a long time ago. I see it will be season 8... Why oh why? Finish this series as soon as possible and don't embarrass yourself anymore.

There is only one zombie show that is much better than TWD & FTWD together. It's Z Nation. Even if that show looks so cheap, it's miles away from TWD universe.

P. S. This episode was so hard to watch.

TWD universe scenarists are so good in making episodes hard to watch... Hats off for that achievement.
