Storyline
Did you know
- TriviaStrand says Charlie was exposed to high energy radiation from walkers that were in the bomb crater, likely alpha particles. Alpha decay radiation is actually the weakest of the three types of radiation, it can be blocked by a single layer of skin, Charlie would had to have ingested alpha radiation to be that sick from it. Plutonium-239 is one of the components of nuclear fallout and while it is of the weak alpha decay it has a very long half-life: 24,000 years, it would be present in the air and would be one of the reasons they need to wear gas masks, it would also be present in high concentrations at ground zero (the place where the bomb detonated). Next is beta decay particles, they have more energy than alpha particles and can penetrate the body's epidermis, some of the weaker beta particles can be blocked by a layer of clothing and even the stronger beta particles can be blocked by a layer of plastic an inch thick. Strontium-90 is one of the major components of fallout and is a beta decay particle, it is the main reason everyone wears extra layers of clothing and masks. Strontium-90 is probably one of the most dangerous components of nuclear fallout, it has a half-life of 28 years and is absorbed by animals, plants and in ground water, Strontium-90 is metabolized by the body in the same manner as calcium which means it accumulates in the bones of the body, it is the type of radiation that causes cancer after exposure. The most energetic and dangerous type of radiation is the third decay type: gamma decay particles. Gamma particles are highly energetic and can only be stopped by extremely dense materials like lead. Probably the most serious overall threat in nuclear fallout is cesium-137, a gamma decay particle with a half-life of 30 years, it is metabolized by the body in the same manner as potassium so it is easily taken into the blood stream and rapidly accumulates in tissues, it is one of the main fallout components that causes acute radiation sickness. Cesium-137 is a heavier element and would mainly be concentrated in the areas closest to ground zero, it is what the walkers from the bomb crater are mainly contaminated with and likely what Charley was exposed to. Another major threat from nuclear fallout, albeit a short-term threat, is iodine-131, a high energy gamma decay particle with a half-life of 8 days. By far the most dangerous component of nuclear fallout immediately following detonation of a nuclear bomb, iodine-131 is an extremely energetic particle and is also readily metabolized by the body and accumulates in the thyroid, iodine-131 is what kills off most people who are unprotected from the blast of a nuclear bomb, those far enough away to not be vaporized by the fireball but close enough to be hit by the shockwave of air contaminated by radiation. Iodine-131 would be in the air and also in the clouds and therefore also the rain, it is the reason why it is critical to stay upwind from a nuclear explosion and to stay out of the rain for at least two weeks to be safe. Expose to iodine-131 in this manner rapidly causes acute radiation sickness, those unlucky enough to be exposed to this type of early fallout die an extremely painful, slow and excruciating death over a period of two to four days depending on the amount of iodine-131 exposure.

Nothing makes any sense
Just when you think it's reached peak garbage they take it up a notch in the illogical rubbish stakes.
I'd like to try and list every plot point that made no damn sense at all but there's a word limit (surely?) on what you can put here and I can't be writing the whole script in here.
Alicia and Daniel spend a bit of time battling with Victor to get to the roof to turn off the light cos the horde will come and catch the army off guard, and the first thing truck stop lady says when they finally cut back to the team is that lights going to bring some walkers, so apparently they're not completely brain dead and could figure that out for themselves although it had already been revealed and talked about multiple times before that that was one of Strands aces, so why were we being bored with that struggle to the roof? It was pointless, like so many things.
Wes, really, another actor handing in his "get me off this show now card", with his stupidly constructed exit strategy, that made no bleeding sense at all. From spray painting trees to sucking up to the unhinged, unpredictable African nation like despot (strand), it just made not logical sense at all. It's beyond b-grade. He should have been given a dignified death like getting poisoned with spray can fumes or something, like real hip taggers would.
And Morgan on his raft, just getting away from it all, like it's some hard to understand concept. Why aren't they all doing that? Leave the bomb zone, stop playing chess with madmen and just go somewhere there aren't irradiated hazards.
Now there's a fire on the roof of a concrete building and it's going to burn the whole building down cos Strand and his band of disposable and loyal (then unloyal) henchmen don't have fire hoses or extinguishers and it's that special burnable concrete they started making buildings out of recently,....
Show runner Ian Goldberg bores us with his usual webcam blow by blow episode end round up and he thinks this is all ok and makes a good story as he pads out the episode with his breakdown of things that happened and how they're all clever plot points, and he doesn't even look a little off his gourd on crack or mushrooms. Something is very wrong with the water these people are drinking.
