Strange but

Warning: Spoilers
This episode seems like a continuation of Ernie's misadventures in babysitting. Once again he fails to properly supervise Dodie getting both of them mild punishment. Mischief by both leads to a week of no privileges for either. Barbara however is the one who may be suffering the most and has bizarre dream ( most dreams are of course) . I am a little surprised MacMurray went along with what he is required to do during the dream sequence given his ability to make unusual demands for filming the series but he plays his part full on. The dream plays like a sketch comedy and could be taken as amusing or ridiculous depending on your point of view. Ernie and Dodie get to take on the adult roles in dream. Ultimately the kids don't find Barbara the monster she feared. It's an interesting thing about this show that by that point was rather dated in some respects was more forward thinking about appropriate punishment for children. The kids also keep trying to cut their punishment short but as Steve said it's going to be a long week for all of them. At this point it's pretty much a two child household but that will soon change. The final season will have more big changes.

To be honest Robbie and Chip didn't really pay attention to Dodie either and both were there helping Ernie with something. Robbie is mostly hands off parenting. I think Chip will end up more like his dad and pay more attention and be comforting and helpful without being pushy or domineering.

I love the drapes in Ernie's room

I want to draw your attention to the drapes in Ernie's room. Blue and green and I love them, I wish I could find drapes like that nowadays. Now for the plot: this episode is very similar to "Dodie Goes Downtown". In both this episode and that one Ernie is babysitting Dodie and then nobody can find her and Ernie is blamed. But in this one Barbara has a funny and weird dream. There is kind of a weird exchange between Barbara and Dodie. They are talking about punishments and what she did wrong, then Dodie tells Barbara "I love you". And Barbara says "I know you do". Why didn't Barbara tell Dobie she loved her back?
