The year 2015 was a time of great hope in the "Star Wars" fandom. The long-awaited sequel trilogy was upon us, with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford reprising their beloved characters in a galaxy far, far away. Just as exciting (if not more so) were the young heroes slated to make their debut in the film, and in doing so, usher in a more inclusive age of "Star Wars" storytelling. As played by Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), these new additions proved to be instantly lovable and buoyed by amazing screen chemistry -- so much so it had us shipping them after but a handful of scenes together.
That was before the dark times. Before the divisive fan response to "The Last Jedi" and the subsequent box office failure of "Solo" left Lucasfilm scrambling, culminating in "The Rise of Skywalker," a film that...

If you've found yourself missing the fictional "Attack The Block" crew in the years since Joe Cornish's excellent London-set alien invasion movie debuted, you're not alone. In an interview for the latest issue of Total Film, star John Boyega shared some insights about the long-anticipated sequel to the 2011 movie, and revealed that he's thought about the character he played, Moses, often in the intervening years.
"It's a character that I really understand," the "Star Wars" actor explained. "In creating him when I was younger, I really understand where he's at now. It's the character that's stuck with me the longest." The character of fifteen-year-old teen gang leader Moses was then-stage actor Boyega's first-ever role on film, and his breakout role as well. The often-underestimated and racially profiled heart of the film, Moses ends up under arrest in its final scene, but his neighbors know he's really a hero. "Every year I'd think,...

Chatting away to Sally Hawkins, as you do, in the fabled Abbey Road Studios in posh North London neighborhood of St. John’s Wood, she tells me ”I feel fine” when I inquire after her well-being.
Our feet are planted in the very spot where The Beatles recorded the track for “I Feel Fine,” a single that topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic back in 1964. I couldn’t tell whether Hawkins purposefully chose those words to chime with where we were stood.

Joe Cornish’s teen ghosthunter drama Lockwood and Co. launches on Netflix globally today. The show, the streamer’s latest young-adult scripted series from the UK, stars Ruby Stokes (Bridgerton) and newcomers Cameron Chapman and Ali Hadji-Heshmati as a teen trio who run an independent ghost fighting agency in London while competing with adult-run corporate rivals.
The eight-part series, from Cornish’s Complete Fiction banner, is based on Jonathan Stroud’s books about an alternate modern world in which murderous ghosts have been attacking people since the 1960s, and only teenagers have the ability to see and repeal them. Netflix ordered it as one of seven British originals announced in December 2020. Several of these have been canned but anticipation around Lockwood has grown and reviews this week have been sparkling.

In a matter of hours, Joe Cornish to cook up a follow-up to the Moses vs. marauding aliens tale. If it’s taking a while to come together, it sounds like Cornish and Boyega are taking their time to get it right – and looking to some of the greatest sci-fi sequels ever made for inspiration.
Speaking on Fangoria podcast The Kingcast sequels as the benchmark for Attack The Block 2. “We're very, very quietly confident and excited about what we've got,” he said. “We think about Alien and Aliens, and Terminator and Terminator 2, and we wanna take a shot at doing our version of what people did for [those movies].” At the moment, the film is in the research stages in order to craft the character story with all the care required. “Obviously, I can make stuff up about aliens quite easily, but the other stuff – the aspects of reality that...

Attack the Block 2 is official, and if Joe Cornish has his way, the much-anticipated project will follow in the footsteps of sequels like Aliens and Terminator 2.
Joe Cornish is set to write and direct the Attack the Block sequel, which will also see John Boyega reprising his role of Moses, and while speaking on Fangoria’s The Kingcast podcast, Joe Cornish provided an update on Attack the Block 2. “So, we’re doing our due diligence in building the screenplay and taking the same amount of care we took with the first one,” Cornish said, “but we’re very, very quietly confident and excited about what we’ve got. As we learned last year, Joe Cornish will head back to the director’s chair for a sequel to 2011’s Attack the Block, with John Boyega also returning to star as the character Moses.
What’s the latest on Attack the Block 2? Plot details remain under wraps, but The Kingcast caught up with Cornish this week and he provided a fresh update on the project.
“We have a very detailed treatment and a storyline we’re very, very excited about – and when I say ‘we,’ I mean me and John Boyega, who [I’m co-producing the film with] and consulting very closely with – and we’re doing all the research to make sure we get it right,” Cornish explains to The Kingcast in their latest episode (quotes transcribed by Fangoria).

Allow it. The low-budget indie darling "Attack the Block," which is about an alien invasion in London, singlehandedly kickstarted John Boyega's career in 2011 and turned into a cult hit thanks to those who sang its praises early on, finally crossing into the mainstream enough to justify a long-awaited sequel (while also leading us oblivious folk in the U.S. to completely misunderstand what the slang phrase "Allow it" even means in the first place). Written and directed by Joe Cornish ("The Kid Who Would Be King"), the thrilling and incisive action/comedy has taken a long, winding, but thoroughly rewarding path to reaching the current level of acclaim it now rightfully enjoys.
And those involved with the sequel are aiming their sights even higher.
"Attack the Block 2" (assuming it even goes by that title) won't have the element of surprise on its side this time around, but Cornish...

If there’s a central preoccupation of Joe Cornish series Lockwood & Co is a ghost-busting adventure, set in a world where sinister spirits are a regular occurrence in our everyday lives – and agents are employed to keep them at bay. While most are major corporations, Lockwood & Co is an independent ghost-hunting business run by two teenage boys, who welcome Ruby Stokes’ psychically-gifted Lucy into their ranks. Watch the trailer:
Doesn’t that look like a spooky, stylish treat? Based on Jonathan Stroud’s novels, the show presents a world similar to ours, but in which the rise of spectral terrors has had an impact on the way technology has developed – with an analogue, archaic feel. Meanwhile, the ghosts themselves look suitably scary, with sword-swinging action in the mix – and Cornish’s knack for dry wit surely means there’ll be some comedy there too. Here’s the official synopsis: “In London,...

For years we’ve been hearing that writer/director Joe Cornish and actor John Boyega have been talking about making a sequel to their 2011 alien invasion film Attack the Block (watch it Here). The project was officially announced last year – and now Boyega has revealed to the folks at Collider that he and Cornish have been crafting the story for Attack the Block 2 together.
Boyega said,
The story has actually been presented by myself and Joe Cornish. We’ve collaborated heavily on making a story that makes sense for Moses and the other characters, and the new characters that will be coming up in the sequel too. And then, also, there’s different perspectives in writing it, with Joe having his perspective and me having mine. London has changed so much, in so many different ways, over the years since the first movie. We’re just trying to make...
