- In the season premiere episode, the designers arrive on the runway of an airfield. In this unconventional challenge, skydivers begin to fall from the sky and the designers learn that they must use the colorful parachute materials.
- Logan moves rooms to join the remaining guys. Louise resolves to go a little more over the top with her designs to avoid another snoozefest. Nicolas thinks Shirin should be out.
On the runway, Heidi says howdy and tells them their next challenge will be "quite colorful."
Tim's waiting for them in the workroom with a marketing person from Macy's. She says the challenge will be all about the color blue for the Macy's INC brand. The winner will be commissioned to design a holiday dress to be sold at Macy's. They're working in teams of two. But they're pitching ideas to the Macy's Lady and she'll pick five ideas to be team leaders. They pitch their ideas. Logan and Shirin both pitch sweater dresses.
The team leaders are Irina, Althea, Carol Hannah, Christopher and Louise. They pick their teams. Althea takes Logan, Christopher takes Epperson. Louise takes Nicolas. Irina abdicates and asks Gordana and Shirin who wants to work with her. She gets Gordana.
They have $100 to hit Mood. And Tim tells them there's no immunity.
Carol Hannah can't find the denim she wants and buys too much of everything. Irina doesn't shop well in pairs. At the checkout, Louise realizes she doesn't have her cash. She finds it at a cutting table, with her drawing.
Shirin is helping Carol Hannah make a high-waisted pencil skirt with a chiffon blouse and a sweater dress with leggings and a leather belt.
Nicolas works on Louise's tuxedo front dress saying how much he hates ruffles. Epperson is happy to be working with someone other than Qristal and Christopher welcomes his ideas.
Watching Louise we learn that she can make bird noises.
Logan and Althea flirt shamelessly and Gordana notes that everyone there thinks he's hot, including the boys. Gordana gets frustrated that Irina isn't giving direction.
Tim stops by. He doesn't love Carol Hannah's leggings. He cautions Louise that her fabrics are too different. He says he's excited by the potential he sees.
He likes that Althea is making a suit modern.
Irina and Gordana don't agree on what's happening to a waistband on their blouse.
Christopher is making a shirt dress, but Tim says he doesn't like the textiles of the two looks together.
He tells the room that he believes in all of them and he sends in the models.
Shirin's skirt is super tight on the model.
Gordana's look is a "disaster" according to team leader Irina.
Nicolas starts altering, restating his anti-ruffle feelings.
Carol Hannah says she has a freak-out halfway through every challenge.
Irina thinks CH's look seems like it came from a discount store.
They're up at 6:30 the next morning. Nicolas resolves to help Louise as much as he can on the runway, making sure she knows who she's designing for. Althea is worried about the fit of their clothes. Shirin looks at her poofy top and thinks it's too plain. She adds a strip of sequins.
Tim sends in the models and gives them the two hour warning. Hair and make-up montage.
With 10 minutes to go, Louise doesn't have all her appliques on. Nicolas is glad he has immunity. Christopher thinks he has a chance at winning.
Heidi introduces the judges, including the Macy's Lady, and mentions that one or more of them will be out.
The show begins. Shirin is happy with her flowy, horizontal striped dress. Althea's model nearly ends up with a bare bum as her skirt hikes as she walks. Louise's dress has a big ol' ruffle strip down the front and random bow on the bum. Michael Kors practically flinches when he sees it.
Heidi sends Althea and Logan off as safe. Heidi says again that one or more will be out. She tells them that Louise and Nicolas and Christopher and Epperson have the lowest scores.
But first, the top scores. Carol Hannah and Shirin have a day to night work appropriate dress and a two piece with a tunic. Heidi likes the neckline.
Gordana says it was a challenge working together and Irina says she was a little bit shy. But they remain polite. Heidi says she likes the flowy dress so much she'd wear it.
Time for the low scores. Louise says she wanted to spice hers up a bit. Heidi isn't a fan of the ruffles. Michael Kors says one dress looks like a bridesmaid's dress with a loofah up the front. Heidi says Nicolas is lucky he has immunity.
Heidi doesn't think Christopher's looks are modern at all. She really doesn't like the neck ruffle. Michael Kors thinks the shirt dress looks like a librarian's shirt dress and a table cloth. Christopher is near tears by the time they're done. Epperson saves a crying Christopher by talking for him.
Heidi sends them away. The ruffles get ripped on. Christopher's big problem is that they didn't go together at all. "Honestly, I don't know what is worse, the pumpkin disco ball or the shower curtain nightie," Heidi says of Christopher's two looks.
On to the winners. Irina's striped dress is lauded again. Macy's Lady thinks Carol Hannah's would sell.
Heidi brings everyone back out. Shirin is safe. Irina is the winner.
Gordana and Carol Hannah are both safe. As is Epperson. Heidi tells Nicolas again that he's very lucky, he's dismissed.
Louise and Christopher remain. Heidi tells Louise hers were unsellable bridesmaid dresses. She tells Christopher his were poorly made and badly styled.
Heidi tells Louise that she's out. Then there's a reeeaaaalllly long pause. Christopher is in.
"I'm just really honored to have been part of all this. I certainly made it a lot further than I had expected. I'm going to come away from this a better designer and I'll work much more efficiently under pressure I would imagine," she says.
