While there remains plenty of suspense surrounding the SAG Awards film categories at the ceremony taking place at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall this Saturday at 5 p.m. Pst/8 p.m. Est (streaming over Netflix), there is decidedly less drama when it comes to the TV categories. It’s simply a fact. At least, this is the way Gold Derby senior editors Denton Davidson, Daniel Montgomery and Marcus James Dixon, news and features editor Ray Richmond and encyclopedic awards expert extraordinaire Tariq Khan saw it during their SAG Awards TV category predictions slugfest this week. The consensus is that “Succession” will sweep the three TV drama categories, “The Bear” the three comedy categories and “Beef” the limited series/TV pair. There may be some non-“Bear” wiggle room in at least one category. More on that in a moment. Watch the editors’ colorful discussion above.

The Bear swept the comedy categories at Monday night’s 75th Primetime Emmy Awards with six wins, including Best Comedy Series.
But while the show has its fair share of laughs, is it actually a comedy? Online chatter this awards season argues otherwise, suggesting it should have competed in the drama category given its often dramatic and anxiety-inducing tone. However, the cast and crew would beg to differ.
When asked by reporters if they would consider the show a comedy backstage after the show’s final win of the night, star Jeremy Allen White exclaimed: “Yes!”
Added executive producer Josh Senior: “I think the show is true to life. Sometimes it’s funny, and sometimes it’s real. What we try to do is tell a real story.”
Senior explained that, because episodes of The Bear are roughly a half-hour long, the series was eligible for the category. But...

“The Bear” served up a sizzling Season 2 in June, following the chaos of transforming the sandwich shop into a classy restaurant with some special guest stars and cameos adding their own special flavor along the way. Many of the surprise actors and actresses added context to Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) past, whether it be his friend pastry chef Luca (Will Poulter) or multiple family members like his mother Donna (Jamie Lee Curtis), brother Mike (Jon Bernthal), Uncle Lee (Bob Odenkirk) or Cousin Michelle (Sarah Paulson).
We also see Carmy take a stab at love this season with Molly Gordon’s Claire. Richie’s ex-wife Tiffany shines a lovely light on the stubborn but deep-down-caring brother to Carmy, and John Mulaney brings out a certain side of the Bertazzo family as Michelle’s husband Stevie. “The Bear” had a few guest stars in Season 1 — Molly Ringwald as leader of the...

In season two of The Bear, the story comes out of the kitchen and into the world, following each of the ensemble cast in a deeper and more dedicated way as they work to flip The Beef into a high-end (hopefully Michelin-starred) restaurant. Viewers see Sydney exploring her palette through Chicago’s restaurant scene, Marcus heads to Copenhagen to learn about desserts under the tutelage of Will Poulter’s forearms, Tina and Ebraheim go to culinary school, and Richie finds self-respect while staging at an Alinea-esque dining room. All of this was done to the delight of critics, who rewarded the show’s turn with a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes — and the slight melancholy of Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
“I knew ahead of time that there was going to be less of everyone together in the restaurant, which I kind of mourned,” he said. “It’s really fun for me...

“Thank you, chef.” It has been a very good week for the folks at Hulu and The Beef, as the second season of the acclaimed TV show “The Bear” has become the most-watched premiere for an FX show in the service’s history. According to the Disney-owned streamer, the show saw a 70% increase from Season 1 to 2 in terms of total hours streamed during the first four days of release. Admittedly, “The Bear” was a surprise hit last summer and took some time to catch on, but entered its second season with as much anticipation as any summer premiere, so the disparity between the season premieres shouldn’t come as much of a shock.

For The Bear‘s breakout star, Ayo Edebiri, the reaction to the Hulu (via FX) restaurant drama’s first course has been rather delicious.
For one, “It’s one of the first things that both of my parents have finished, so that’s really cool,” the actress, writer and comedian shared with TVLine this weekend at the Hca TV Awards. “Also, going to eat at restaurants has been pretty fun — there have been some free appetizers that have been really nice!”
