Ugh, just SO much drama!....
Chalice_Of_Evil9 October 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Is it raining? No, that's just blood dripping from your dead boyfriend stuck in a tree.

This episode begins with one of my favourite songs at the present moment ('Help I'm Alive' by Metric). Well...technically it's a bit "old" now, but that's beside the point. It's quite the appropriate song too, with very fitting lyrics...

"I tremble, they're gonna eat me alive/If I stumble they're gonna eat me alive/Can you hear my heart beating like a hammer?/Beating like a hammer, beating like a hammer/Beating like a hammer/Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer"

Well, girlfriend isn't going to be having THAT^ problem anymore, as I'm quite sure her heart stopped "beating like a hammer" as soon as that vampire dropped down on top of her and (presumably) killed her/drank her blood. Another episode, another very moody, atmospheric and (of course) foggy night. Instead of driving though, this couple are camping in the woods and making out until the boyfriend (unwisely) decides to step outside the tent to fetch something from his car. Not too long thereafter, girlfriend hears what she mistakes for rain outside and goes to investigate. Naturally, she's doomed. Upon discovering the blood of her former boyfriend dripping down atop their tent (and that it was in fact *not* rain), she has just enough time to react before she becomes a vampire's meal.

Thankfully, Elena and Stefan decide to conserve time being spent in this episode on their individual narrations/diary entries, by combining their narrations/diary entries. We see each of them narrating/voice-overing (and see Elena writing in her diary), but they overlap with each other, finishing each other's thoughts/sentences/narrations. Which means we can get on with the rest of the show and all-important plot lines such as...Elena's druggie brother? No, that's boring. Next! How about the equally druggie, not to mention hospitalised, object of his affections, Vicki? She at least acts halfway decent towards him in this episode, when he comes to visit (read: stalk) her at the hospital. She's far more likable when she's not acting so bitchy towards him (although, admittedly, I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for Elena's brother, Jeremy, either. Especially when he just blows off/ignores both Elena's and his cool aunt, Jenna's, warnings about him continuing down the druggie path). Possibly the only character I dislike more than Vicki's stalker is her stereotypical, one-dimensional jock character boyfriend, Tyler. Only marginally better than him is Vicki's brother, Matt (they're okay in their scenes together at the hospital). Oh, and I also don't like the history teacher guy. He is indeed an "asshat".

Caroline, although still quite annoying, was mildly amusing in her bluntness with the advice she gave to Elena (in regards to Stefan): "Just jump his bones, already. Okay, it's easy. Boy likes girl. Girl likes boy. Sex!". Elena summed up Caroline perfectly, though, with a sarcastic "Profound". There's definitely not much going on there inside Caroline's head. I'm actually surprised to discover her being friends with and hanging with Elena, given how she was bitching about her to Bonnie last episode. Admittedly, Caroline was a little less annoying this episode. Her "Ugh, just SO much drama!" summed up this show nicely.

Thank goodness we didn't have to wait too long before seeing Elena's and Damon's first scene together. Ian Somerhalder continues to have the most fun on this show with his character. His introduction to/meeting Elena was a good scene. They both played it well, and it was interesting to hear Damon tell her about Katherine. Things were even *more* tension-filled when eventually Stefan showed up. Speaking of Stefan, we learned some interesting things about him this episode. For starters, his "power of persuasion" ability that he used on Vicki in the hospital to convince her it was an animal that bit her and not a vampire. He also gave Elena a copy of Wuthering Heights (very appropriate - and at least it wasn't a copy of the Kate Bush song. *shudder*). Also nice to see him using his vampire hearing (not to mention his super vampire jumping onto that roof where Damon was holding Vicki precariously near the edge). Damon got the line of the episode with, "Not bad. Have you been eating bunnies?" (apparently, eating bunnies makes you fast and strong). I liked this scene between the two brothers, including Damon's departing line of, "That's for me to know and for you to...dot dot dot.".

Elena and Stefan's talk, as they watched the comet...not move an inch across the sky (seriously, it looked as if it wasn't moving AT ALL) was okay. I'm glad they didn't drag out the when-will-they-kiss thing over multiple episodes. Nice ending to this episode - with Damon biting Caroline.

Dobrev, Wesley and Somerhalder continue to be the best things about this show. The first episode was better, but this one wasn't too bad either.

A solid episode

Warning: Spoilers
I like the fact that Elena is more curious about Stefan in this episode it makes for some good character pieces and good dialogue. She starts to become more curious because Damon was revealing some of there past as Elena doesn't really know who Stefan is yet, just that he's a handsome man. The fact that Elena was starting to ask actual questions made for a more intense and interesting scene. The characters are very good at acting and do a very good job. The two brothers are especially brilliant. And Elena and her brother are just alright when it comes to the dialogue. Watch it for yourself and hope you enjoy the episode it's certainly miles better then what I was thinking. I thought this show would of been overatted crap but no it's really good. I'm on episode 7 now which I am yet to see. Episode 5 for now is my favourite

Overall: 7.0/10.

The One With The Comet...

Warning: Spoilers
I really like this episode. It's a good follow-up to the Series Premiere, and makes me so happy, because Damon and Elena finally meet.

In this episode, Mystic Falls is preparing a festival to celebrate the passing of a comet, which hasn't been seen since the 1860s. Around the same time Damon and Stefan became vampires. Which can only mean one thing; Damon is definitely up to something. Vicki is still in the hospital recovering from Damon's attack, and tells Matt that it was a vampire who attacked her. Stefan goes to "change Vicki's mind" of that fact, and then Matt is confused when she doesn't remember. Meanwhile, Elena goes to see Stefan, but instead runs into Damon.

Best part of the episode: When Damon and Elena meet.

Overall, I give this episode an 8 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Awesome.

Reasonable Episode
claudio_carvalho8 May 2012
Stefan overhears Jeremy telling to Elena that Vicki told him that she had been attacked by a vampire and he visits her and uses his ability to persuade her that she was attacked by an animal.

Meanwhile Elena goes to Stefan's house and meets Damon that tells her that his brother misses his former love, Katherine. The evil Damon manipulates Vicky, who is recovering her memory, to force Stefan to kill her. Then Damon flirts with the easy Caroline and they have sex. When the awkward Elena meets Stefan, they resolve their situation watching the passage of a comet over Mystic Falls.

"The Night of the Comet" is a reasonable episode, with Damon trying to force Stefan to drink human blood. After biting Vicky, Damon now bites Caroline. Will the students of Mystic Falls high school turn into vampires? My vote is five.

This episode was so bad that it was laugh-out-loud funny at times.
I did not think that the pilot of The Vampire Diaries was that bad. I had some issues with it but I saw potential. Then I watched this episode... Wow. I don't know whether my expectations were higher or if they hired a terrible writer, but that was seriously awful.

There were moments where the storyline went back on itself. As if the writers thought they made a mistake so they decided to change that plot line later in the episode, which made me very confused.

But what really got me was that they took the problems that the previous episode had, and put them in this episode about ten times more. I won't go in depth on that because I did in the previous review, but I will say that the music in the background made me groan in disgust at some points.

The thing that made this episode laugh-out-loud funny for me was the dialogue. There were times where I had to pause it because I was laughing so hard. The only main characters that didn't have incredibly bad dialogue were the brothers, but Stefan doesn't talk much so I'm not sure that he counts. So basically Damon was the one thing I liked about this episode.

I hope this show doesn't stay like this. According to the user reviews, this is the worst episode in the series, so I am persuaded to watch the next episode; but if the next episode is similar to this one than I may not continue with this show.

I give The Vampire Diaries Season One Episode Two 3/10 stars.
