Mo’Nique praised fellow actress Taraji P. Henson this week for raising awareness about Hollywood’s pay inequality for Black women but also recalled her own attempts to shed light on the issue over a decade ago.
“It was painful to watch,” Mo’Nique told Club Shay Shay host Shannon Sharpe of Henson’s December interview with Gayle King.
“I’m just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do [and] getting paid a fraction of the cost,” a tearful Henson said in an interview that dominated headlines. “I’m tired of hearing my sisters say the same thing over and over.”
Mo’Nique said this week she sympathized with Henson’s words but noted they weren’t unfamiliar. “Taraji and I had a conversation over a decade ago in my trailer when I was doing The Mo’Nique Show.”

Break out the diva fan, y'all, 'cause it's time to celebrate, Wendy Williams style.
It looks like there'll be more wigs, Wonder Woman mugs, and juicy hot topics on the talk show circuit for a while, as The Wendy Williams Show has been renewed for two seasons. The Daytime Emmy-winning talker is currently in its third season.
Based around former radio host, author, and controversy queen Wendy Williams, The Wendy Williams Show is now the only talk show fronted by a person of color, as George Lopez and The Mo'Nique Show have been axed in recent months. Williams recently hosted the reunions for Mob Wives and The A-List: New York, while also guest starring on Lifetime's recently renewed Drop Dead Diva.

The writing had been on the wall for George Lopez's late-night show on TBS. There was speculation that TBS was planning to cancel the show last year, but Conan O'Brien insisted on Lopez sticking around so he is not perceived as the guy who got Lopez fired. So Lopez Tonight got a stay of execution but now the show, originally developed by Telepictures as a syndicated talk show, has come to an end after a two-season run. There have been rumors that TBS had tried to make the show broader and less ethnic. For one reason or another, both late-night shows with minority hosts, Lopez Tonight and Bet's The Mo'Nique Show, bit the dust within the past 2 weeks. Here is the official statement from TBS: "TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of Lopez Tonight. Thursday will be the final episode of the show.

It looks like Bet late nights just got a little bit quieter.
According to Rodney Ho of Access Atlanta, Bet's The Mo'Nique Show has unceremoniously finished its run after 300 shows, two seasons, and a whole lot of hollerin'. After becoming the first African-American woman to host her own late night talk show, Oscar winner Mo'Nique Hicks, along with sidekick comedian Rodney Perry, was told that the show was to be on an "indefinite hiatus", a euphemism for cancellation. The show had been taping in Turner Studios, which is now being used for the new Bet sitcom Reed Between the Lines, set to debut in October.
Ho indicates that the decision was not ratings based, as the show had only experienced a meek 5% year-to-year drop from its fairly solid perch, so it was likely a combination of creative and financial factors that sealed the show's fate. If I had to speculate,...

When Tisha Campbell-Martin stopped by Bet's "The Mo'Nique Show" on Tuesday night, fans immediately took to Twitter to inquire about her new look. There's no denying that Campbell-Martin has changed since her five seasons on "Martin" alongside Martin Lawrence -- but then again, it has been 14 years, so some changes are inevitable.
Campbell-Martin, who enjoyed moderate success with a pop album in the early '90s and appeared in several music videos, is currently promoting "Lemonade Mouth," an upcoming Disney Channel original TV movie about a bunch of misfit teens who meet in detention and form a band.
Sticking with her musical roots, Campbell-Martin plays Miss Rezznick, the music teacher who inspires the kids. At the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Campbell-Martin told reporters that with "Lemonade Mouth" her career "went to an all-new high" - at least in the eyes of her children, ten-year-old Xen and two-year-old Ezekiel.

Comedienne, actress and talk show host, Mo'Nique, celebrates her 43rd birthday today. By now it feels like the "fabulous and thick" Oscar winner is everybody's big sis. Whether trying her hand at being a nightly talk show host (on "The Mo'Nique Show") or acting her heart out on the big screen, we've loved watching Mo'Nique show the world that big girls got it going on, and that even Hollywood politics can't keep a talented sister down. Today, we salute this fierce and fabulous Sagittarius and wish her continued success. Happy birthday Mo!

As expected, Conan O'Brien was rewarded for submitting himself with an Emmy nomination for his seven-month tenure at the helm of "The Tonight Show." While it isn't so surprising that he edged out the returning Jay Leno -- who won this award once (1995) during his first 17 years hosting this late-night staple -- it is a jaw-dropper that "Late Show with David Letterman" is missing from this race for the first time since it debuted in 1994. "Late Show" won the Emmy for its first season and then picked up five in a row beginning in 1998. That winning streak was halted by "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," which has owned this category since 2003 and contends once again this year. O'Brien will face this Comedy Central hit head-on in the ratings when he launches his new chat fest on TBS in the fall. It took O'Brien a full decade of hosting "Late...

With her win for Best Supporting Actress, comedienne Mo'Nique became only the fifth black woman in history to win an Oscar for an acting performance.
As the abusive Mary Jones in "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire," Mo'Nique's gritty performance wowed audiences and critics alike. In her acceptance speech, she acknowledged Hattie McDaniel, who was the first black woman to win an Oscar for her performance in "Gone with the Wind" 70 years ago.

Are '80s-'90s hip-hop duo Kid 'N Play poising themselves for a comeback? Seems very much like it. Though the new critically-lauded film "Precious" touches on subjects like abuse and rape, the film's cast is hitting star Monique's new show for a late night party. They'll appear on tonight's edition of "The Mo'Nique Show" on Bet, airing at 11pm Et/Pt.
Comedian and actress, and now host, of Bet's #1 late night show, Mo'Nique plays an emotionally and physically abusive mother in a could-be Oscar nominated turn. Director Lee Daniels and stars Gabourey Sidibe, who plays Precious, Paula Patton, and Sapphire, writer of the book "Push" which the film "Precious" is based on, will all appear on the show to talk about the new movie for a "Precious" party.
The cast does have a reason to celebrate. Not only is "Precious" one of the best reviewed films of the year, it's also a box-office hit in its ultra-limited release. The film opens wider this weekend.

Unfortunately, there's still no official word on Bet picking up the CW's discarded-but-beloved sitcom, The Game. While there have been plenty of rumors (here and here for example), it hasn't happened yet.
The latest rumor of The Game being revived came last month when some of the cast tweeted that they were heading to Atlanta. Some jumped to the conclusion that they were flying in to start shooting new episodes. Not so.
They were actually reuniting for a special episode of The Mo'Nique Show, a talk show hosted by actress and comedienne Mo'Nique. Those taking part are Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Brittany Daniel, Pooch Hall, Tia Mowry, and Wendy Raquel Robinson.
The cast reunion airs tonight at 10pm on Bet and hopefully fans will finally hear that the revival is "Game on!"

It seems like there's a glut of new talk shows these days. Last month "The Mo'Nique Show" debuted, this weekend "The Wanda Sykes Show" premieres, and two days later "Lopez Tonight" follows suit.
When Wanda described her new show in a recent interview, she said it's like "'The View' meets Howard Stern." Her weekly Saturday night series centers on a panel of colorful guests talking about current events. George Lopez says he'll set himself apart Monday through Friday, by doing the whole thing outside, with a street-party atmosphere. Shakira's band will provide the music for the standing (not sitting) audience members who will take turns playing the role of sidekick.
Mo'Nique's nightly combo talk/variety show became the top-rated program of the season for Bet by drawing 1.5 million viewers its first night on the air. Wanda and George are hoping they come out of the gate as strong as Mo'Nique did,...

While Mo'Nique may be known for her sassy stand-up comedy and larger-than-life personality, at her home just outside of Atlanta she is simply "Mommy." "It's just like a playground in our house - nothing but fun and love." But when she took on the role of an abusive mother in the film Precious: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire, the actress set her current contentment aside and recalled a much harder time in her life. Usually film and television stars work hard for their publicity - making the rounds at film festivals, exhausting the talk show circuit and doling out repetitive interviews, but Mo'Nique has found a loophole in the system. By refusing to promote her acclaimed performance in Precious since the Sundance Film Festival because of a few unfulfilled demands for compensation, the comedienne actress has unwittingly created her own tidal wave (or backlash) of buzz for her new Bet nightly talk show, The Mo'Nique Show, to coast off of its first week.
