The Cult Comedy - The power of Gully Cricket

It is a surprise that, in a state, which follows Cricket as a religion, Movies about cricket is a rare commodity. Though certain movies speaks about cricket, nothing can match the aura of this cult classic. And To everyone's surprise, this is the director's debut movie. And his best till date. (Some may argue, 'Mankatha' is his best. But guys. Seriously?).

Gully cricket is a never before touched subject in Tamil cinema. The movie very well shows the little nuances of the local Gully cricket tournaments. The movie is about the lives and things about the different flavored people from the Chennai 600028 area, who loves Gully cricket.

The director very well mixed the commercial elements in this perfectly prepared Tamilnadu Meals. The movie has superb songs. Natural acting. Hilarious dialogues. And absolutely lotsa cricket.

The movie has got a lot of surprises. All the new faces makes it fresh. Especially you will never guess the climax scene.

If you are a Tamil guy, looking for suggesting a Tamil movie to a non-Tamil friend, this is it.

The best laugh you can get from a movie

This is a movie at its best. Laughs, Laughs and Laughs. The beauty and the backbone of this movie is the direction. The way it was told. You never feel like you are watching a flick when you watch this. Don't know about others. But every Indian would be raised playing cricket all the time and getting nasty with the fights. The best part of the flick is a gang of some 10 guys going for a cricket match with school going kids. You don't need a subtitle to enjoy this. Its indeed a cult movie which came with a fresh sense of air gushing in! Watch it with your friends to enjoy to the max. Its a surprise this is the debut for the director. The next one from him is Saroja(2008) which is also a worth watch. And awaiting for the new one Goa (probably end of 2009). This director is one to follow in Tamil:)

More than just a comedy cricket sport movie.

A movie that when I watch 15 years ago, I felt this is just a comedy movie made for higher school or college boys who like to enjoy their life with friends. When I watch again recently, I realized now this movie is actually a masterpiece for a friendship themed movie. How I felt 15 years ago and how I felt now when I watch again this movie, I can say this movie brings back a lot memories with my friends back in university time. A must watch movie to those who feel like want to go back to their college/university life. And Yuvan music is another reason for the success of this movie.
