Incredibly sad, but something we should never forget.

"Unspoken" is a PBS documentary that will likely leave you feeling depressed. After all, it's about the boarding schools which were set up by the US government...boarding schools intended at obliterating the culture of the various American Indian nations. In its place, the government wanted to create 'Americans'...loyal and with little if any allegiance to their tribe. To do this, speaking or writing in their native tongues was strictly forbidden, hair was cut and their clothing was 'white'...sort of like military uniforms and nothing like their tribal garb.

What is saddest about this film is listening to the many sad stories and remembrances from the interviewees. However, it wasn't ALL sad...many also held memories of friendships they developed through these schools. So, I guess it isn't ALL sad....just about 98%.

Like a good documentary, it educates and angers as well as annoys...and I mean this in the best possible way.
