Mary Sharma is addressed as Lady Mary. But the rules of peerage titles are rigid. A woman may only be addressed as Lady if she married a peer -- baron, viscount, earl, marquess, duke -- BUT Mary married a commoner, or if she is the legitimate issue of an earl or higher in rank (marquess, duke). Her parents, the Sheffields, are addressed as Lord and Lady but are clearly outranked by Anthony, a mere viscount. Their daughter Mary would only be entitled to the honorific, The Honorable Miss Sheffield. NOT Lady Mary.
