- Patrick and the rest of the CBI team is forced to work together with Patrick's nemesis in the office, Sam Bosco, in order to find a kidnapping victim.
- When Bosco's and Lisbon's teams stumble in the same location, with Lisbon investigating a dead body and Bosco investigating an abducted teenager called Mia Westlake, Minelli orders that both teams should work together in the kidnapping. Soon Patrick Jane reads the coroner's report and learns that the corpse is from another teenager kidnapped three years ago. Therefore, they believe the same gang is responsible for Mia's abduction. They head to the mansion where the Westlake family lives and interview her sister Verona and her husband Duncan. Patrick plays with a baby and the nanny escorts the baby to her room. Both reams engage in the investigation and Patrick plots a plan to catch the abductor, against Bosco's will.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Minelli orders Patrick Jane and Lisbon and company to play nice and work together with Bosco and his team to locate a kidnapped woman being held for ransom.—CBS Publicity
- Cars pull up outside a house, killing their lights. It's Bosco and his men. They're following up a kidnapping. Bosco hands out assignments to surround the house.
He counts down and they kick in the doors, guns drawn. They come face to face with Jane and Lisbon.
Back at HQ, boss man Minelli is disturbed that CBI agents ended up with their guns drawn on each other. Bosco explains that they're looking for an heiress named Mia Westlake who was taken a day and a half ago. A witness gave them a partial plate on the kidnapper's car, which led to a house in Oakland. It was supposed to be empty but they found people in it.
Lisbon's turn. They got a call from the coroner's bureau, there was a report of a corpse in a house. They got there and waited for the coroner. The corpse is a young male, dead three to five years, shot in the back of the skull.
Jane walks in with the report. The corpse is Colin Haymer, a kidnap victim from three years ago. He thinks it's similar to Bosco's kidnapping.
Minelli tells them to team up. He wants to foster "better inter-unit relations." Bosco calls Jane an accident waiting to happen.
Later, Bosco briefs Lisbon's team on the kidnapping. They ran Mia's car off the road, killed the driver and took her. They sent the family a proof of life a few hours ago. Mia's not wearing a blindfold. Rigsby pipes up that that's bad, since they don't care if she sees them.
One of Bosco's men snippily compliments him on pointing out the obvious.
Lisbon goes with Bosco to interview Mia's family. Bosco wants his guy Hicks to stay behind and watch Lisbon's team to "keep them honest."
Westlake Family Residence They meet with Mia's sister Verona and her husband Duncan. Verona says Mia is the grown-up one.
When she asks about the previous kidnapping case Jane bluntly says the victim was eventually killed. Verona doesn't recognize the name Colin Haymer.
Jane finds a surprise at his feet: a toddler. Verona chastises the nanny Mrs. Kent for not keeping baby Levi occupied.
They get a ransom demand via email. It's a video of Mia reading a statement saying she is being treated well and they must pay $3.75 million in small bills by 6 p.m. that night or she will be executed.
Bosco spots a tattoo on one of the kidnappers. Jane is intrigued by the odd amount.
Verona and Duncan head off for privacy and Jane follows them. He wants to know why Duncan keeps taping his suit pocket. He guesses there are drugs in it.
Jane talks to Verona, telling her that her sister needs her and turning to the drugs that her husband has gotten for her will make her regret it for the rest of her miserable life.
Lisbon finds Jane outside. She thinks he's sticking around to weasel his way into the Red John detail.
Duncan comes out all agitated, telling Bosco that he demands Jane be taken off the case. Bosco doesn't take well to the order, and tells him Jane is staying put. Verona joins them, telling Jane he was right. She thanks him and tells her weasel husband to back off. Lisbon leaves Bosco and Jane to try to play nice.
Cho and Rigsby divide up interview files from the Colin Haymer case. Hicks strolls through and mocks them, calling Rigsby "Bert." After Hicks leaves, Rigsby asks what that's all about. Cho tells him that Bosco's team calls them Bert and Ernie. It doesn't bother Cho because Ernie is the "clever handsome one."
Lisbon meets with the SFPD officer in charge of the kidnapping. That ransom demand was pretty specific, too. He had a feeling about Colin's girlfriend, Diane Zeranski. He remembers waiting with Colin's parents after the ransom was paid.
He tells her that telling Mia's family she's dead would be a kindness.
Van Pelt finds that the squaters in the house were drug dealers in the "Crazy Hill Gang," including a ring leader named Deezer.
She and Rigsby go to check them out. As they wait for the elevator she asks him why he's not wearing his bullet proof vest. He says they're uncomfortable and hot. "Fine, get shot, see if I care," she says.
Jane plays with Levi and chats up the nanny, who assures him the parents are loving people. She says she's heard angry words between Duncan and Mia.
Bosco comes to get him for an errand. He's following up on the tattoo, which suggests the Mexican mafia might be involved. Jane wants to wait in the car, but Bosco says he has to come for back-up.
They approach a porch full of Mexican gangsters. Bosco asks for Snoopy. One of the guys tells them to keep walking. He gets in Bosco's face then pokes Jane in the chest. Bosco takes the opportunity to arrest him for battery.
As Bosco is walking him to the car, Jane asks him how long he's been an informant for CBI. He didn't buy the "back up" excuse. The informant says he hasn't heard about any kidnapping and thinks it's imitators. Bosco punches him in the face to sell it to his watching homies.
Back at HQ, Jane thanks Bosco, saying it was fun. Bosco says following leads is how real cops work. Jane tells him to get off his high horse, he just wanted to scare him with his macho prowess.
Bosco tells Jane he's hurting the careers of the people he works with. Jane assumes he means just Lisbon.
Jane asks him about the ransom demand amount. He thinks Mia is dead as soon as the ransom is paid. He wants to try something, but Bosco runs him off.
Van Pelt and Rigsby knock on an apartment door, asking about Deezer and the gang. They get nowhere.
Rigsby and Hicks bicker while Van Pelt asks a young blond woman about the gang. She says she doesn't know them. Van Pelt walks away then turns back to give the woman her card. The woman shoots her in her bullet proof vest then jumps out a window.
Rigsby runs to Van Pelt, but she says she's OK and tells him to go. Rigsby jumps out a second story window onto some Dumpsters and chases the blonde into a basement with Hicks.
They end up in a maze of steam pipes and boilers and darkness. The woman hides, then steps out and raises her gun, aiming at Hicks, whose back is turned. Rigsby shoots her in the back.
Later, Lisbon and Cho meet Van Pelt as she's being put in an ambulance. Rigsby is badly shaken. Hicks thanks him. Rigsby looks around then gets in the ambulance with Van Pelt. He takes her hand. He tells her he loves her. She says thanks. Then she smacks him, telling to wear his vest next time.
Bosco and Jane arrive. Lisbon tells Bosco it's their fault because Hicks and Rigsby were fighting and the bad blood starts with them. He says it's about professionalism and she's about to go off when Cho comes up and says the dead woman's name is Diane Veranski, DZ or Deezer.
So now they know the gang has someone planted in the Westlake house. Jane thinks he knows how to draw that person out.
Bosco doesn't want to hear it. Lisbon shouts at him that he should at least hear Jane out, but he's too stuck on the idea that he's not a cop that Bosco can't see how helpful he is.
At the Westlake house, Jane tells Bosco he's making a mistake. Bosco goes to speak with Verona privately, dragging the money. Jane finds them and they bicker. Jane fiddles with something on the mantle as Bosco tells Verona they're going to put a transmitter in the suitcase. Jane tells Bosco he's going to get Mia killed. Jane tells her that there's a spy for the kidnappers in the house. Bosco swears at him then follows as Jane points Verona to the "spy": her lawyer. Verona runs at her and tries to choke her.
Jane steps away and into a nearby room where Lisbon and Cho are watching the feed from the camera Jane just installed on the mantel. Bosco joins them, in on it, telling Jane he better hope somebody comes. Jane assures him they will.
A few moments later, the nanny appears on the screen. She opens the briefcase and removes the tracking device. Jane tells them to wait.
Verona gets in her car with the money and drives off.
The nanny steps into the nursery and calls someone, saying the money is on its way and she removed the tracking device.
She hangs up and Bosco and Lisbon bust through the door, guns drawn, followed by Jane, who says the toddler's been wandering around and she's a terrible nanny. She tells them if they let her go, Mia might live. If not, Mia will be tortured. But Bosco says they're going to go get her, and takes the nanny's cell phone.
They run down the last number called, a landline. They get an address in Oakland.
The team rushes there. Jane watches safely from the bushes as they surround it (wearing bullet proof vests). There's a hail of bullets as they rush in.
Then Lisbon comes out with her arms around Mia.
Bosco sees Jane and gives him a knowing nod.
Back at HQ, Bosco brings Lisbon a drink, resurrecting an old tequila tradition. He says it's been nice working with her again. She agrees. There's a moment. Then he says good night.
Bosco finds Jane on his couch in the dark. Bosco tells him he has a useful perspective. He takes out a summary of the Red John case since he took over. He hands it to Jane, telling him to let him know what he thinks. Bosco turns to leave when Jane calls out after him.
"Don't thank me," Bosco says. "I wasn't going to," Jane says. "I need the actual case file, unabriged." "You're a jerk," Bosco says, "you know that?"
Jane bids him good night.
