Raymond Carver was better known for short stories and poetry. It was strange to realize how it transferred to Robert Altman's film, Short Cuts. Not all the stories and characters are in the film. Based on a few short stories, Altman intertwines the lives of 22 characters. Raymond Carver who died in 1988 was the original source. He was only 50 years old when he died of cancer in 1988. The documentary examines his life and work where one affected the other at times. When he died, it was too soon. We are introduced to both wives, a son and even his mother. We get to hear from friends and colleagues. We even hear his voice too from archive footage.
