It ain't easy being blue!

Warning: Spoilers
Unskilled no-name anonymous extra Smurf # 47 (a very amiable and amusing performance by Zell Miller III) ain't having a good time of it following the cancellation of the hugely successful 80's cartoon series "The Smurfs." Smurf # 47 gets accosted by people everywhere he goes, shows up at folks' houses begging for spare change, sleeps on a park bench, tries (and fails) to pick up girls in bars, and complains about never getting any lines when he was on the show. Writer/director Rick Fontes whips up a wickedly hilarious and profane comedy short that pokes inspired nasty fun at the beloved cutesy Saturday morning animated television program. The wretched plight of the lonely and bitter Smurf # 47 is presented with a good deal of spot-on snarky sarcastic wit (our lovable loser protagonist drunkenly tells a bartender that he once got lucky with Smurfette and whines about all the spin-off shows that should have been done to capitalize on the popularity of the Smurfs!). Special kudos are in order for Fonte's excellent bluesy score. An absolute riot!
