Have always liked Candace as a character, some may find her annoying and/or her behaviour repetitive. But to me she is often very funny, has had a lot of relatable situations and 'Phineas and Ferb' has shown more than once that there is more to Candace than the snitching older sister stereotype and has shown more than once that she does care for her brothers when we see a different side to her and their relationship. One might worry though as to whether the plots for both episodes would be too cheesy.
Actually didn't think the plots for "Cheer Up Candace" and "Fireside Girl Jamboree" were cheesy at all in execution. The one in "Cheer Up Candace" on paper is oh for goodness sake soapy, but the way the main story is relatable for anybody who has been in that situation and it definitely cheered me up on my recent viewing. Something that was sorely needed. "Fireside Girl Jamboree" was also very well done. So while neither are among my favourites they are great, especially "Cheer Up Candace."
The animation is full of vibrant rich colour and the background detail is fluid and never rushed-looking. Where it is most striking is the comic character animation of Perry and especially Doofenschmirtz in both episodes, some of the latter's expressions are priceless. The music never felt at odds with the action and has a nice hip character, the theme song is so catchy and quotable still. Some theme songs/tunes in television can grate, others never get old. 'Phineas and Ferb' for me is in the latter category and the lyrics are funnier and easier to relate to than when first getting into the show when it first started to air.
Writing is smart, funny and has heart. Especially apparent in "Cheer Up Candace." No signs of corn or over-sentimentality here. Doofenschmirtz has some corkers in both, particularly in his wackier writing in "Fireside Girl Jamboree." The character writing is spot on in both, Candace is beautifully written in both and was relatable in "Cheer Up Candace." Loved the character interaction between Perry and Doofenschmirtz in that episode too. The voice acting is very good from particularly Ashley Tisdale.
"Cheer Up Candace" was the marginally better episode story-wise. It doesn't seem so on paper, but it was wonderful to see such a charming side to the sibling bond where it is obvious that Phineas and Ferb care for Candace despite her constant attempts to bust them. The Perry and Doofenschmirtz subplot is among my favourites of theirs, the truth is not a surprise at all but the scenario was a nice change from and more mystery-oriented than most of their subplots that follow a formula.
"Fireside Girl Jamboree" is a bit manic at times and the main plot is not quite as good here, but again a lot of fun and charming. Doofenschmirtz's plan here is one of his wackiest and sees some hilarious humour. The character interaction is also spot on here and there are some nice inventive visuals.
In conclusion, great. 9/10.
