Almost killed the series

Thankfully, the grittiness returned after the Chiefs series. The version of Hard Knocks is quite easy the worst and least interesting of the entire series.

Maybe because then head coach Herm Edwards didn't like swearing, or maybe NFL films just had too much influence, the swear words got left on the cutting room floor, even during the prime time showings.

There were not the personalities, and way too much time was spent on then running back Larry Johnson's hold out. At least in previous seasons, the Cowboys and Ravens featured players who were interesting. This Chiefs team had zero personalities.

Thankfully, HBO rebounded this past year with the New York Jets, perhaps producing the best of the entire Hard Knocks series. It's quite easy to laugh off or ignore the pre-season games. It's quite easy to say that they don't really count. However, one thing all of the hard knocks series has had are the scenes in which a football player is summoned to "meet the Turk". It's the time they are told to grab their play books, and follow someone. Look at it this way, you're actually seeing someone lose their job. A real job, not some celebrity apprentice show. Dreams come crashing down. Sad thing is, this is the last time many of these players will put on a NFL uniform.

Its easy to say that those are the moments that one questions, just how meaningless are the pre-season games to the dreamers?
