Sets up season 2 very nicely :-)
ashsmith-108-81882812 April 2022
I don't get why there are so many bad reviews on this episode. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I thought the episode was really good. I think a lot of people had high expectations for some big climax to happen, but instead we get multiple smaller happenings. This is not a action packed fast paced show (never has been) so if you're expecting a finale like that, you should have known better. It's a character building show with some creepy twists and lots of mystery and it's amazing. Now, I will admit some of the scenes are just a bit slow and they might drag out the character relationships a little, but I think that is important in any show, as it makes future events between characters more meaningful. Excited for next season!

Season One Review
southdavid10 August 2022
I wasn't going to watch "From", it looked from the trailer like any number of science fiction shows that are produced each year and disappear without trace. Another member of my household decided to watch it too and, though have still have concerns, which I'll come to later, it's actually better than I anticipated.

The Matthew's family, Jim (Eion Bailey), Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno), Julie (Hannah Cheramy) and Ethan (Simon Webster) crash their vehicle just outside a mysterious town. They soon come to discover the mystical horror of their new home. It is physically impossible to leave, as the road inexplicably loops around to itself and, upon nightfall, the residents are attacked by entities that seem human, but very much aren't.

I've not read all 504 reviews that "From" has at the time I'm writing this, but I bet nearly all of them make some reference to "Lost". Some of those are obvious, Harold Perrineau playing a prominent role and producers who were involved with the show. Whereas I don't hold "Lost" up as an example of bad television at all, I loved it at the time, I do have to acknowledge that show occasionally started mysteries that it had no idea what the resolution would be. That is my primary concern with this, that it's making up various mysteries that either it won't explain, won't explain satisfactorily, or will be cancelled before it gets a chance too.

"From" combines "Lost" freaky physics with some "Walking Dead" style threats, in the form of the as yet unspecified creatures that attack at night and try to convince you to let them in. Personally, I thought this was more of a unique selling point than the show makes use of. The assaults, when they happen, are generally well done but I couldn't help but feel like something should have happened every night to keep up the idea of them.

That's a few negatives for a show that, generally, I felt positively about. I enjoyed some of the back and side stories that are in the show. I thought that David Alpay's character Jade was a flouncing, moody, highlight and I thought that the CGI work, when it was used, was nicely done - as were most of the shows horror moments.

Time will tell whether "From" ends up being worth watching or not, but for now it's decent enough.

Really like show but drags in parts ....
KurtyMacDermit10 April 2022
I do like this show but I feel like episode 10 could have been episode 5. Just as it starts getting interesting.... BOOM! The end! Will we get a season 2? I'm not sure but I hope so! A show at this pace should have been 15 episodes.

Why the rage for this episode?
ekdavid11 April 2022
Lots of evolvements, unique storyline, thrilling athmosphere. I don't get why people are waiting all the answers from this episode. I am looking forward to the next season, I wish there were more series like this.

I don't know... I'm so invested but so confused
KikyNez10 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think this episode was intended as a season finale. It doesn't feel like a finale.

It went slow pace and creating bonds that would lead to a high note on an end with a crushing "twist" maybe.

I also felt there were re shoots. Boyd's beard and Victor's hair looks very different from (not pun intended) previous episode).

I'm really eager for season 2.

I did enjoyed the season in a whole and have a lot of theories.

8/10 for this episode. 8.5/10 the whole season

Waiting for next season. It'll be a LONG wait.

Season 1 finale and what I expect for seasons ahead
AfricanBro26 April 2022
Alright the season finished not too long ago now, it ends with more questions than it answers but it's a pretty decent season. We learn so much more of where they're stranded but nothing to help us understand it better. Probably did it for the suspense to have us eager for s2. I increased my rating from a 6, not the best show out there but it's a good horror watch. It didn't give out any answers but so much more is uncovered which leads to several possible storylines for the next season. If it follows this trajectory it's gonna end up being a really good show. I don't think they'll end up finding their way home anytime soon, I think there's too many stories left to tell from the small stranded community, and like many shows that had similar dilemmas, they'll milk them and then several seasons later spin a story where they all get out or open up to a bigger world. Like what happened with "Westworld" in S3 or "The 100" when they were stuck in that bunker or "snowpiercer" when they brought along Big Alice. They open up the scope of the series to allow for more stories to take place. But for now, "From" still has a lotta stories to tell in that small community and I think season two will take place in the same town, hopefully it'll focus more on giving us a better idea of the creatures and everything else creepy about the show.

Disappointing
mpcoe2011-471-19837710 April 2022
The show wastes too much time on personal relationships within the town. I can see doing that for the first few episodes, but zzzzzzz already. I actually fast forward through those parts and have never felt like I missed something important.

I would be surprised if this series gets renewed, which is unfortunate because it would be cool to know what is going on.

Do people even realize that this is not the end of the show?
florinboboescu8012 June 2022
I see a lot of negative reviews for this episode based solely on the fact that it didn't answered all the questions surrounding the show. It really makes me wonder if people watching the show realized that this is not a mini series and that a new season is coming? I just hope that those people were just confused and not truly expecting the answers to be revealed in the first season.

Headaches
obama_obb10 April 2022
I don't think this episode deserves to be the final episode for From. There are plenty of canceled tv shows that ended exactly like this, with a big cliffhanger. They rushed this in the last 5 minutes

Overall the show and the storyline is amazing but there are a lot of plotholes. There are a lot of posibile theories and mistery but wrapped wrong.

Also i do think there will be a season 2 but if it will be the same slow 9 episode and then the last episode will be rushed in 5 minutes no doubt that viewers will leave this.

Really enjoyed this series. I loved LOST and it's mysteries. This may be a little more suspenseful and scary, but the story is great and the reveals are great.

Pessimistic About the Show's Future
ahmadz83919 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The season finale left me feeling torn. On the one hand, the show's premise is certainly intriguing, and the mystery has been building throughout the season. I found it intriguing at first, but I've come to suspect the writers may be in over their heads, leaving me feeling pessimistic about the show's future.

I want to be proven wrong, but it seems like the writers are trying to emulate J. J. Abrams' style of tacking on mysteries without any clear plan for resolving them, which has ultimately made for an inconsistent and frustrating viewing experience.

The episode itself wasn't very memorable or special. Like the rest of the series, this episode raised more questions than it addressed.

Ten episodes in, and other than getting to know the characters, we're still where we started in terms of the mystery; this isn't an indication of good writing, as answers should lead to more questions, but having no answers isn't a sign of good writing. At least if the story had begun from Boyd's point of view rather than the Matthews' family, there would have been some progression in the plot.

So far, it's been squandered potential, but the radio response and the lighthouse promise a potentially intriguing second season, so here's hoping we get a better one.

Episode 10
bobcobb3017 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We have reached full Lost mode on From, with the voice coming in at the end and now we now there is some government or evil plan at play here with this town.

Not sure if that is a good or a bad thing, but we shall see.

It was not a perfect finale, but definitely a gamechanger and I think we needed that. We don't want the second season to be exactly the same as the first.

We got enough mystery and while we didn't get any answers really, we did learn a lot about what might be next in the coming episodes.

Overall, From was a success story and I am intrigued by what lies ahead. This felt like a throwback for sure though, which is a good sign.

More Questions, No Answers, Lots of Plot Holes
wildernessbarbie10 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm pretty much done with spending time on a series that asks a lot of intriguing questions, yet doesn't have the courtesy to answer any. It feels like the writers are giving us, the viewers, the double bird while just trying to ensure they get renewed for another season.

Still no hints as to where they are, why, what hunts them at night, who the Boy in White is, what's up with the transporting trees, Victor (remember the Polaroid with him as a boy? The writer's don't seem to.), where their food/water/electricity comes from, what's in the forest, why the talismans work, why the Jukebox plays songs randomly, or pretty much anything else.

On top of that, a main plot point this episode is gathering wire from all over town to wire up all the lamps together to connect the radio... inexplicably downstairs and outside, unprotected, up to the antenna all the way upstairs, on the roof, a good 40'-50' up. There appears to be no logical reason for not putting the radio up in the attic, and filling the top floor with the lamps. That would have massively cut down the amount of wire needed, the daylight time spent on it, and protected everything from weather and night time ghouls.

On top of that, letting one of the main characters go off and continue digging in the deep creepy hole all alone just after finally hitting... "something?!!?" Nobody else is curious or thinks it may be wise to be cautious, not even her husband?!!? The continued contrived stupidity of characters through lazy writing is borderline offensive.

A season finale should offer SOME hope for the characters we've invested in, some brief respite from the trauma they've all been enduring. After all, we've got more than enough of that in real life, we come to shows like this to escape some of that. There's no escapism here. Only more trauma, and now with a bunch more people thrown into the mix it looks like.

I'll wait for the next season (if there is one) to be released in full and read reviews before giving any more of my time to it. I hope there is a second season, and that they're more respectful of their audience in it.

If Stephen King created Lost during a coke fueled binge
korplist11 April 2022
Finally something that gives me true Lost vibes. Some of these low reviews are ridiculous. I get if you want to talk about something like character development but like, you're entitled to answers? How dare they don't spoon feed them to you after 10 episodes. Or the writers just have no idea because if they did you'd know what was going on right? But your feelings got hurt and your intelligence got insulted and your time got wasted. Get over it or learn to have fun not knowing and enjoy the ride into the wtf.

Your Wife Shouldn't Be Digging That Hole Jim.
wandernn1-81-68327418 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The weird thing right at the start figuring out how the power works in this bubble of a universe they've discovered. That's a pretty cool concept +1 Star.

EMT girl is engaged! Lol. So spaced out people would be in a world they don't understand.

And the genius twins they put the tower up and here we go...on Three! They got a signal!!!! And Mom and Dad are back in LOVE! Looks like the marriage is saved.

Boyd is getting old and needs a rest. Sara spurs him on. They trod toward the blaring horn! Thru the spiders webs! Thru the pouring rain!!! And they find.....a lighthouse!!!!

Back at Colony House, Donna warns the incoming storm is gonna blow their tower off the House. They get a signal finally! Hello Jim Matthews! Your wife shouldn't be digging that hole Jim. Oh dear! Victor is down there in that hole! The boy in white said you would come!

Jim finds a dire situation back at his house. Big holes in the floor and Tabitha no where to be found. And they had just refound their love!!!

The little boy in White seems to be helping. He directs Boyd and Sara to the safety of one of the 'faraway trees'.

And that's how it ends? Lighthouse, weird radio and faraway trees? Oh and a bus pulls up to the diner at the very end!

Well apparently Seasson 2 is here in just a few days. Looking forward to it.

What do people want from a finale?
Briony_Wastell1 August 2022
Tied up in a bow? Every trailer and advert is that this is like Lost so why do people expect answers. It was always going to create more questions and it did that exquisitely. Gripping, tense and so intriguing my only negative is that I watched this series so fast I have a HUGE wait for series 2.

Horrible conclusion to the horrible season
MarioTee19 April 2022
Nothing much to say here, really. This was a bad show that could be summed up in a few sentences, if not words. The finale gave either unsatisfying answers or just raised more questions. I don't care about possible season 2 and I will not watch it. Series score: 3.5/10, finale: 2/10.

[5.8] The hollow "gates"
cjonesas15 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 10: After the average previous episode we get a more average one featuring enthusiastic activity, some non-existent thrill and non-creatures presence. This episode drops again in pace and interesting plots up until the "looming" season finale. No more "page" left in this season and I doubt very much that could be satisfying even to the writers, let alone the fans.

Underwhelming
fn-ix11 April 2022
A common pitfall of mystery series is to set up a complicated premise, tease the viewer with questions during the season and then, as the showrunners themselves never entirely thought the plot through, end up with either a convoluted explanation (e.g. Dark) or just leaving the questions unanswered by introducing even *bigger* questions, i.e. What From opted for.

Wow, I don't understand the bad reviews
qztsdpzr31 May 2023
This show is exactly what I wanted. I was wondering if one day I would be able to feel the same thing I felt while watching LOST back in 2004, and this show did exactly that. The mysteries are very good and this episode add more just like LOST did at the end of it first season. I can't wait to see the rest of the show and where it will lead.

I think people nowadays like to binge a season all in one day with no more questions left and that's what they call masterpiece. Bur for this kind of show, I couldn't be more happy with the way it ended on season 1! Even the music is reminiscent of LOST witch for me is a big plus. Im happy they have some of lost best director on this show!

10/10.

Hooked
pixiegirl4430 July 2022
I had my doubts about this show initially, but after the second episode I became addicted to it. I loved Lost and wayward Pines, and this in a similar universe. The last episode had me definitely longing for more! Brilliant show and we'll worth a watch. Ignore the negative reviews on here. Most wouldn't know a good show if it bit them on the face like the creatures!
