- Left wing writer Tom Flannery rings for the emergency services when he finds his investment banker wife Bridget dead at the foot of their stairs, lying in an unnaturally large pool of blood. Both Harry and Detective Superintendant Jenkins find the death suspicious as some blood seems to have been cleaned from the wall, making a 'void', but then Jenkins dislikes Flannery's anti-police strand in his writings and she knows Bridget was insured. Nikki believes the death was an accident until Bridget's sister Muriel tells her that the first Mrs. Flannery also died after falling downstairs.—don @ minifie-1
- Harry Cunningham investigates the death of Bridget Flannery who is found in her home at the bottom of the staircase in a pool of blood. Her husband Tom was sitting outside reading and listening to music at the time and did his best to revive her before calling the police. The senior police officer in charge of the case, Det. Supt. Gaynor Jenkins, is certain that Flannery killed his wife but some feel she is less than impartial given that her mentor's misdeeds were exposed by him. Flannery's solicitor asks a more sympathetic Nikki Alexander to conduct a second autopsy and her findings are diametrically opposed to Harry's, who has concluded that the dead woman's injuries could not have been caused solely by a fall. Nikki begins to doubt her version however when she learns something important from Tom Flannery's past.—garykmcd
