Detective Stabler says "DNA doesn't lie." Yet in episode 9 of this season, Benson was framed for murder based on "spoofed" DNA.
Lee Tergesen and Christopher Meloni appeared together as both enemies and lovers in the HBO series Oz (1997). Chris Meloni worked both shows at the same time, starting in 1999. His character on Oz was missing from several episodes throughout the series for a variety of reasons. This allowed Meloni time for the more intense work schedule on SVU. Additionally, many characters from Oz appear on this show.
This is the first guest appearance of Elizabeth Marvel in the series. She would later go on to portray Defense Attorney Rita Calhoun beginning in Season 14.
Lynn Drexel says "when Abby heard about our former governor paying girls $5,000 an hour for sex she said 'I could do that.'" She is referring to Governor Donald Shalvoy (played by Tom Everett Scott ). In season 19 of Law & Order (1990) Shalvoy sponsors acting District Attorney Jack McCoy's ( Sam Waterston ) campaign to get elected as DA after Arthur Branch's ( Fred Thompson ) term was up, McCoy was appointed as the acting DA after Branch was forced to retire early due to health reasons. During the course of an investigation it was discovered by Detectives Lupo ( Jeremy Sisto ) and Bernard ( Anthony Anderson ) that Shalvoy was regularly hiring high end prostitutes.
