Peter Onorati is so good!
Racingphan29 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Peter Onorati plays a cop on the verge of retirement with strength and wisdom. Almost the complete opposite of his character on This is Us. He can do it all!

Although Jenna Dewan is exceptionally beautiful, they seem to be turning her and John into a version of Castle and Kate. And she's no Stana Katic.

Big ups for some other great guest stars, like Chicago Med's Roland Buck III and the incredible Helena Mattson.

Officer McGrady is the Sweetest
SourCandyOrNoCandy18 May 2022
This was a different style for The Rookie, having one big case for everyone to work on instead of them being on patrol like usual. I prefer the usual way, but it's nice to have one of these episodes every once in a while.

Best parts of the episode?

  • Officer McGrady is the sweetest guy everrr. I loved seeing him interact with Thorsen, Bradford and Ashley. "My daughter makes a mean takeout, just like her old man." I also really liked Bradford's retirement speech at the end.

  • Wesley and Lopez practicing a cross-examination. I seriously can't wait for the inevitable episode when the two of them go up against each other in court.

  • I hope we see more of Cleo. She seems really sweet and her wash 'n' go was itttttt! Whew - beautiful. I also really like how Aaron defended her at the end of the episode.

  • I love that we're giving Bradford another love interest. His smile when he met her for the first time was so sweet.

Worst parts of the episode?

  • I'm sorry, that axe in the chest scene was the worst. Not even slightly believable.

  • Bailey sneaking into Fred's house was pretty stupid.

1 Scene Drops the rating
hallykitter10 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Usually I don't write reviews for individual TV episodes as that can get quite tedious but the one scene in this episode annoyed me so much I felt drawn to make a review. The scene where Bailey sneaks into her co-worker's home to gather evidence on an arson case was one of the most dumbest TV episode scenes I've ever seen. So far the writers of "The Rookie" have written Bailey as an intelligent, badass, woman. Which made this scene so incredibly painful to watch, (well mentally painful that is) for 5 reasons. 1) She didn't make sure that all the receipts were put away when she accidentally dropped them 2) She didn't wear any gloves, so her fingerprints got all the evidence that she illegally collected 3) When she hides in the closet she doesn't close the door all the way 4) She calls John instead of texting him & 5) The sound is on her phone which she never bothers to turn off. How the writer could mess up so badly on one scene is beyond me but at least the rest of the episode was good.

Don't get rid of Jerry!!

Still in the middle of this episode but Jeri is a great addition. Please don't remove him. He's a breath of fresh air. I think he can add another layer to these modern day police officers.

A Heartfelt Farewell
alesnucic6 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As we follow Jerry on his last day on the job, we are treated to a series of heartwarming moments that highlight the camaraderie and bond shared among the officers of the LAPD. It's heartwarming to witness the support and genuine affection that Jerry's colleagues show him as he prepares to leave the force.

When Jerry finally hangs up his badge, it's impossible not to feel a lump in your throat. The emotional weight of 43 years of service, sacrifice, and dedication hits hard, and the tears are inevitable. This poignant moment is a testament to the exceptional acting skills of the entire cast, particularly the actor portraying Jerry McGrady. His portrayal of a man saying goodbye to a lifelong career is nothing short of remarkable.

The well-crafted storyline, the perfect balance of drama and humor, and the outstanding performances by the cast make it a must-watch episode. It's an emotional rollercoaster that takes you on a journey of laughter and tears, ultimately leaving you with a profound appreciation for the dedicated officers who serve our communities. Jerry McGrady retirement is a bittersweet farewell that will linger in the hearts of fans for a long time.

There's a Reason Ratings Continue to Drop
supermodelyum17 January 2022
Another ridiculous plot.

Cops fixate on a treasure hunt rather than their jobs. Chen decides that 2nd place is the same as winning the bet. ("I would have won the car race if I hadn't had a flat tire" wouldn't cut it in the real world. But Hollywood writers are idiots. So Chen gets out of owning the loss like a grown women).

This show has lost the spark that made it so cute, funny, interesting and insightful for the first two seasons. Now it's just a cookie-cutter show with paint by numbers plots. Shame - I look forward to watching Nathan Fillion in some other project. 'Cause this one is no longer about his character, The Rookie.
