Survivor has made some controversial game choices over the years, but the most contentious one has been the shift in the length of the season.
Host Jeff Probst has addressed the issue a few times in the years following the shortened Survivor 41 season.
When the world shut down, they adjusted that season to be shorter to account for the time and cost of a two-week quarantine before Episode 1 began filming.
The production team adjusted the game and ensured it was still difficult to compete – despite having the castaways compete for 26 days instead of 39 days.
Having less food has been one of the big selling points of Jeff and his team, and hunger was a huge part of the Survivor 46 season.
Jeff again addressed the shortened seasons on his On Fire podcast as the latest season began wrapping up.

Survivor 46 has been a difficult season for some of the contestants – notably Ben Katzman, who was shown suffering panic attacks on the 12th episode.
Following that penultimate episode of Survivor 46, host Jeff Probst spoke about the difficulty of the season with co-host Jay Wolff and Survivor 45 winner Dee Valladares.
The conversation was a major part of his new On Fire podcast episode, Play or Get Played.
It began as a discussion about the change from 39 days to 26-day seasons, and how Jeff feels about the game possibly getting more difficult for New Era players.
The New Era of Survivor is every season that has taken place following Survivor 40: Winners At War.
It was during Survivor 41 that the reality competition show shifted from being 39 days long to its current form of 26 days.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 46 Episode 9.] Idol this, idol that. Jeff Probst says that promising to play an idol is a big nothing burger in Survivor. His comments come after Hunter was eliminated in Survivor Season 46 Episode 9 with an idol in his pocket, despite having sworn to other players that he was going to play it for himself in tribal council that night. Promises like this, Probst says, are complete “nonsense.” Probst revealed his feelings about idol promises in the On Fire podcast released after Episode 9 aired on CBS on April 24. He told his co-hosts, Survivor fan Jay Wolff and Season 45 winner Dee Valladares, that he knows as much about what players are going to do with their idols as fans: “Nothing.” As the host and showrunner, however, he knows “who has an idol for sure.” In his 20+ years with the show, one thing is certain: “It’s extremely rare when a player...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 46 Episode 8, “Hide ‘N Seek”] Q was the star of Survivor Season 46 Episode 8. The player sees himself as the “mob boss” of his six-person alliance, and despite some not enjoying his bold efforts to control the votes, he’s succeeded every time he’s taken the reins. On Survivor‘s On Fire podcast about “Hide ‘N Seek” (take a listen below), Jeff Probst dove into why this makes Q a “maddening” opponent. He also shared his reaction to Q causing that wild live Tribal Council and explained how Survivor hopefuls could survive one in the future. Probst told his On Fire co-hosts, Survivor fan Jay Wolff and Season 45 winner Dee Valladares, that Q got so much screen time in Episode 8 not just because he’s entertaining, but because he’s driving the story forward. From the “QVC” moment with the skirt to making the tribe play Hide and Seek...

Jeff Probst says there are past players on Survivor who would never make it onto the show now. The host said in the April 11 episode of the On Fire podcast, the show’s official aftershow podcast, that this is the result of a changed culture, which he says is for the better. Probst was joined in the episode by co-host Jay Wolff and Survivor 45 winner Dee Valladares. The trio broke down Survivor Season 46 Episode 7, which aired on Wednesday, April 10 on CBS and featured a scene during which a contestant, Ben, had a panic attack in the middle of the night. Fellow contestant Kenzie supported him through it in a show of compassion and care. Probst said on On Fire that Ben had a psychological team on standby should he need assistance. The medical and mental health services provided to the players are factors Probst loves, noting that these services are...

High on Fire have unveiled the video for “Cometh the Storm,” the title track from their new album arriving next Friday (April 19th).
The six-minute track opens with a subdued intro that’s guided by bassist/guitarist Jeff Matz. Much like the calm before the storm in question, Matz’s phrases slowly lead the arrangement to a bombastic chorus, as Coady Willis’ drumming picks up and the bellows of frontman Matt Pike assume a towering presence.

The confection of Matz and Pike’s thick, bass-y guitar tones are at the crux of these massive drops and dynamic peaks, which culminate in a satiating, late-track sludge breakdown. And it was Matz who broke ground on the composition of the song while noodling on his bass in the practice room.
“‘Cometh the Storm’ was built from a riff I started playing on bass at practice,” said Matz in a press release.

Dee has joined Jeff Probst and Jay Wolff on the On Fire podcast as a co-host this year. She helps provide information from the perspective of a former player.
There was much to talk about after the Survivor 46 merge episode. CBS viewers saw 13 people competing for the merge and a shocking development ahead of the Tribal Council.
For Survivor fans unfamiliar with the On Fire podcast, it is a weekly endeavor from Survivor host Jeff Probst. A new episode is released each Wednesday night following the East Coast debut of Survivor.

Currently in its 46th season, the Yanu tribe has hit an all-time low when it comes to loss and suffering, by losing the first four of their immunity challenges.
They’ve voted someone out of the tribe three times, and the fourth had a member medically evacuated.
As such, the tribe did not have flint for the first 11 days of the season. No flint equals out to no fire, and this is the longest time, since the “new era” began during Survivor 41, that a tribe has gone this long without flint.
Still, despite how hard it is to “survive” without fire on Survivor, it doesn’t look like this rule will change.

Survivor 46 has seen one tribe get severely punished for losing challenges, and it won’t lead to a change in the format.
Host Jeff Probst is keen on “penalties for losing” challenges, which he noted during a new episode of his On Fire podcast.
During the March 27 episode of Survivor 46, Yanu Tribe was shown struggling in Fiji.
Yanu lost the first four Immunity Challenges, earning a date with Jeff at Tribal Council each time. They got a small reprieve when Randen had to be medically evacuated.
Due to all those losses, Yanu had to vote out Jelinksy, Jess, and Bhanu. Some Survivor fans might not see that as a big loss to the tribe, as those three individuals never really fit in with everyone else.
In her exit interview, Jess said Survivor was “torture” for her. And in his exit interview, Bhanu blamed his tribe for not having “empathy” toward him.

But host Jeff Probst did things a bit differently at Tribal Council.
The Yanu Tribe was very up-front with Jeff about targeting Bhanu.
After Bhanu revealed that he had no vote, Jeff elaborated that he couldn’t use his Shot in the Dark without a vote to sacrifice.
Tiffany, Kenzie, and Q noted they were writing down Bhanu’s name. It was a plan in place following his revelation that he had told the other tribes too much about the trio.
Bhanu then spoke about his background and how he had come from poverty before living out his dream of playing Survivor.

Castaways quitting the show in recent seasons have irked some viewers.
The sentiment is that someone who quits has taken away a spot from someone who might have been better at the game.

Hannah Rose quit at the very first Tribal Council of Survivor 45. It changed the game because someone else was about to get voted out.
Just six days after Hannah quit, Sean Edwards also quit Survivor 45. They each began on the same tribe (Lulu), continuing a negative trend for that tribe.

Jeff Probst is opening up about his time with Survivor.
The 62-year-old star has been host of the show for 45 seasons now on CBS, beginning way back in the summer of 2000.
In an interview with EW last year, Jeff was asked about how long he wanted to continue on the show.

“It’s impossible to describe what Survivor represents to me,” he said at the time. “Impossible. It goes beyond creative expression or professional recognition. It’s much deeper. It’s right in line with the ideas I try to impress on our players. It’s about pushing myself further than I think I can go, about trying to stay in the moment and adapt to my surroundings, about being a good ‘tribe member,’ about being open to new ideas and new people. When filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke got the first draft of Twilight, she knew there was a problem. The script depicted Bella as a superstar athlete and ended with her in a chase with the FBI (on jet skis). “It had just gone out of control,” says Hardwicke. “I’m like, ‘No, no, no, that’s not what the book’s about. It’s about this incredible, impossible love and this yearning.”
Hardwicke wanted to ditch the script and get closer to the book by author Stephenie Meyer. Those instincts proved right. Fifteen years ago, on Nov. 21, 2008, Twilight became a surprise hit for low-key studio Summit Entertainment, grossing $408.4 million worldwide and instantly turning stars Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan) and Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) into global stars. It would spawn four sequels, with a TV reboot on the way.

"From the flames, heroes will rise." Gravitas Ventures has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary film titled Fireline, made by the filmmaker Tylor Norwood, who last directed the Robin Williams doc called Robin's Wish. This isn't the only film about firefighters & wildfires, with others including Only the Brave, On Fire, and Bring Your Own Brigade recently. Enter the spectacle and drama of a Megafire (there was even a "gigafire" in California in 2020) burning in California, alongside firefighting teams struggling to save anything they can while protecting each other; revealing the friendship, heartbreak, and the exhilaration of going to war against an elemental force. This film takes audiences into the fire, to feel for the first time what those fighting these blazes face in taking on a life of rising danger as climate change makes big fires more frequent. Shot in 4K, with unprecedented access. This film looks incredibly intense & frightening to watch.

Stop saying Sean Edwards is a quitter.
Sean’s tribe lost immunity during the fourth episode of “Survivor 45.” They went to tribal council. He was voted out. That’s literally how the show works. But clearly I’m in the minority on this one, especially when you look at all of the anti-Sean outrage on social media.
In case you missed the episode in question, a tribe swap resulted in Lulu member Sean joining four Reba players at their camp. After personally losing his fourth straight immunity challenge, the 35-year-old school principal from Utah expressed his desire to return home to his loving husband at tribal council, telling his new tribe mates to “write [his] name down” in order for them to remain “Reba strong.” At the time, Jeff Probst accused him of essentially “engineering a quit” — and for the record, the host seemed quite irritated, especially as this was coming...

Jean-Jacques Annaud has worked with an impressive roster of actors across his 60-year career including big names such as Sean Connery, Tony Leung and Brad Pitt as well as Christian Slater and Jane Marsh, who were emerging talents when he cast them in The Name Of The Rose and L’Amant respectively.
Talking at a masterclass at the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon on Sunday, the French director revealed how he found the casting process one of the most exhausting stages of making a film.
“I never write with an actor in mind because a character often evolves, someone that starts out as 60-years-old, may end up working better as a 35-year-old… I don’t want to ensnare myself. I wait until my ideas are clear,” said Annaud.

There has been a big change to Survivor and longtime host Jeff Probst is sharing his thoughts.
In the past, each episode of Survivor would feature two challenges – a reward challenge and then an immunity challenge. In recent years, there is only enough time for one challenge each week, so reward is often tied to an immunity win.
Whenever a tribe has more team members than other tribes, they need to have people sit out of challenges in order to make the competitions even. In those early years, one person could not sit out back-to-back challenges in an episode.
Now that there are no longer two challenges in each episode, a change has been made to the rules.
Keep reading to find out more…
Jeff announced during the episode on Wednesday night (October 4) that teams cannot have the same person sit out of challenges in back-to-back immunity challenges.

After 44 seasons and 23 years on the air, “Survivor” is finally updating its sit-out rule.
“It used to be that the sit-out would reset after a tribal council,” host Jeff Probst informed the “Survivor 45” castaways during Wednesday night’s second episode. “So here’s the new rule. You cannot sit out of back-to-back challenges, period. So whoever sits out of this challenge will run in the next challenge. Make sense?”
The rule change is a direct result of what happened in “Survivor 44,” when Claire Rafson sat out of three consecutive challenges, resulting in her tribe voting her out unanimously. The audience uproar prompted Probst to announce on his “On Fire” podcast last spring that the rule “does need to be updated.”

Wildfires are a far too common occurrence, destroying property and taking lives in the U.S. and abroad, and Peter Facinelli hopes his latest film On Fire will put a more personal spin on the disasters so viewers start thinking about how they could be mitigated.
“It’s meant to be a white knuckling kind of ride that gives you hope and, in the end, also celebrates the heroes that are putting their lives on the line all the time,” Facinelli tells The Hollywood Reporter, adding that he hopes the film raises awareness about the increasing frequency of deadly wildfires, like the one that devastated Lahaina in August. “October is Fire Prevention Month, and there are ways to protect your home, but these fires just keep happening and it’s time to think about what we could do about it.”

Interim agreements, which are signed by producers to allow SAG-AFTRA members to participate in the production and publicity of projects during the work stoppage that began July 14, have caused much confusion and concern.
Some actors have voiced their support for interim agreements, like Adam Driver who was at the Venice Film Festival for the interim agreement project Ferrari, while others have chosen to abstain from publicity despite starring in projects that have signed agreements. Amanda Seyfried said she would not attend the premiere of Atom Egoyan’s TIFF drama Seven Veils, which has an interim agreement, writing on social media that it “doesn’t feel right to head to the fest in light of the strike.”
Common concerns voiced about the interim agreements range from worry about creating content that can be acquired by AMPTP companies, as well as worries over the slow pace at which the agreements are being vetted.

"This is no joke..." "Best thing to do is fireproof the house." But that won't work either, of course! Cineverse has revealed an official trailer for a survival thriller titled On Fire, arriving in theaters to watch at the end of September. The film initially premiered at the 2023 Mammoth Film Festival earlier this year, and it's co-directed by Nick Lyon with the actor / director Peter Facinelli. This is a chilling premise because it's actually happening in real life to so many people - from Hawaii and Greece, and many many other places around the world. And yes it's due to climate change and negligence, and we need to do more. Based on real events, On Fire follows a family who lives in a trailer home in the woods when they are suddenly confronted by a wildfire. Survival becomes their main objective. With precious moments ticking by, Dave must flee with...

Dolly Parton did not become famous overnight. When she left her hometown of Sevierville, Tennessee for Nashville, she was met with some hard times. She quickly ran out of money, which often left her with not enough to eat. So the “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” did what she needed to do to survive.
Dolly Parton used depression ‘recipes’ when she got desperate
Growing up, Parton would hear stories about what her relatives did to survive the depression. For example, they’d order something called a “pine float” from a cafe—a glass of water and a toothpick. The “Jolene” singer also made soups using ketchup and mustard as the base—another depression technique.
“I had heard of people making soup out of hot water and ketchup,” she wrote in her 1994 memoir, Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. “I can tell you personally it’s not very satisfying.

During her summer vacations growing up, Dolly Parton used to stay with her Aunt Estelle and Uncle Dot Watson in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was in Knoxville that she realized she could play guitar with her case on the ground and get money from people walking by. She also realized that the more “pitiful” she looked, the more money she got.
How Dolly Parton unknowingly started busking
One day, Parton got off the bus in Knoxville a little early. So she sat down with her guitar and started to play.
“I was just playing for myself, but after a while a few people started to gather around,” Parton wrote in her 1994 memoir, Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. “This one couple, who looked like they were from out of town, stopped and heard one whole song and part of another.”

Dolly Parton is America’s sweetheart, but she has a mischievous side. Growing up, she enjoyed playing pranks. She also enjoyed shocking people. One day, she thought it’d be funny to moon her sister’s boyfriend.
Dolly Parton often sang for her sister’s boyfriend
Dolly’s sister Willadeene was an early fan of the “Coat of Many Colors” singer’s voice. She enjoyed her little sister’s voice so much that when her boyfriend Arthur Blalock, Jr. (who they called June or Junie Blalock) would come pick her up for a date, she’d ask Dolly to sing for him.
“The old abandoned chapel was at the foot of the hill our house sat on, and June would usually park his car down there and walk up to the house,” Dolly wrote in her first memoir, Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. “Willadeene always wanted me to...

From the minute Dolly Parton could talk, she was singing. Sometimes, she felt singing by herself wasn’t enough. She had dreams of being a star, after all. She needed to practice working with backup singers. So the “Coat of Many Colors” singer would often rope her sisters into performing with her.
The Queen of Country admits she ‘musically abused’ her sisters
In Parton’s first memoir, Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business, she writes about how she used to all but force her sisters to sing with her.
“My sisters were musically abused,” she wrote. “That is the only way I can think of to describe what I put them through in my constant search for musical satisfaction. Stella and Cassie were my chief victims. Of course, I was always the star, and I made them sing backup.”
Parton would make any kind of deal, promise, or threat...

Dolly Parton has believed in helping people for as long as she can remember. Before she helped to fund the Moderna vaccine or helped millions of children learn to read thanks to the Imagination Library, she helped her grandmother keep her dignity by brushing her hair and cleaning her nails.

Parton’s grandmother on her father’s side, Bessie, experienced debilitating health issues following the birth of her last child.
“[She] had some kind of inner equilibrium problem that caused even the simplest motions to make her sick,” Parton wrote in her first memoir, Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. “She had somehow acquired this condition during her last childbirth. She always lay in bed and couldn’t stand for people to even get near her because even their movement would make her queasy.
