Pretty Decent Indie Flick

Warning: Spoilers
I had the opportunity to watch this truly independent film the other night. I call it truly independent because it's something that was not shot on a huge budget and it does not feature any stars or anyone really recognizable in it.

This movie is a character study of Gary Walden, who is a washed up/failed stand up comedian. He's visiting LA and is crashing at his best friend's hotel room. His best friend, Kenny Baker, is a successful stand up comic that is about to have his own HBO special.

There are a lot of ways that we see Gary as a failure. My favorite is that he has a really bad cold in the beginning of the movie and that just ruins his act.

This movie is about Gary and his failures in his life. There's no clear cut main stream Hollywood plot in this. Instead this is a movie about a sad person and his downward spiral, and it works because Gary Walden feels very real. We find him pathetic and yet we are still able to relate to him at the same time.
