- Maleficent: [before kissing Aurora to awaken her from her enchanted sleep] I will not ask your forgiveness because what I have done to you is unforgivable. I was so lost in hatred and revenge. Sweet Aurora, you stole what was left of my heart. And now I have lost you forever. I swear, no harm will come to you as long as I live. And not a day shall pass that I don't miss your smile.
- Princess Aurora: I know who you are.
- Maleficent: Do you?
- Princess Aurora: You're my fairy godmother!
- Maleficent: What?
- Princess Aurora: I know you're there. Don't be afraid.
- Maleficent: I'm not afraid.
- Princess Aurora: Then come out.
- Maleficent: Then *you'll* be afraid.
- [at Princess Aurora's christening]
- Maleficent: Well, well.
- [She laughs softly]
- Maleficent: What a glittering assemblage, King Stefan. Royalty, nobility, the gentry, and...
- [Her laugh becomes contemptuous]
- Maleficent: ...How quaint, even the rabble.
- [staring at the obviously-nervous King]
- Maleficent: I must say, I was distressed at not receiving an invitation.
- King Stefan: You're not welcome here.
- Maleficent: [whimpers mockingly] Oh, dear!
- [she laughs some more]
- Maleficent: What an awkward situation.
- [turns to leave]
- Queen Leila: You're not offended?
- Maleficent: Why should I be? Just to prove that I bear no ill will, I shall bestow my own gift upon the child.
- King Stefan: No! We don't want any gift of yours!
- Knotgrass: Stay away from the princess!
- Thistletwit: Yes, stay away!
- [the Dark Fairy casts the fairies backward across the room, shutting them inside a chest. Then Maleficent gives the baby Aurora a pensive look]
- Maleficent: [casting her spell] Listen well, all of you. The princess shall indeed grow in grace and beauty, in sweetness and wisdom and generosity, adored by all who meet her.
- Queen Leila: That's a lovely gift.
- [King Stephan, however, seems fearful of what Maleficent's "gift" will hold next]
- King Stefan: Don't do this.
- [Pressing a finger to her lips, Maleficent notices a spinning-wheel]
- Maleficent: But... As they said in ancient Rome, "He whom the Gods love, dies in youth"... he, or SHE.
- [the Dark Fairy gazes wickedly at Aurora, before continuing]
- Princess Aurora: [after she awakens from her enchanted sleep] Hello, Godmother.
- Maleficent: Hello, Beastie.
- Maleficent: Before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel, and fall into a sleep like death! A sleep from which she will *never* awaken!
- King Stefan: Maleficent, please don't do this, I'm begging you.
- Maleficent: I like you begging. Do it again.
- [Maleficent motions for him to kneel]
- Maleficent: [King Stefan kneels before Maleficent, his advisers looking on in disapproval]
- King Stefan: I beg you.
- Maleficent: All right.
- Maleficent: The princess *can* be woken from her death sleep, but only by...
- [Maleficent glares vindictively at Stefan]
- Maleficent: True Love's Kiss!
- [short pause]
- Maleficent: This curse will last till the end of time! No power on Earth can change it!
- [From trailer]
- Princess Aurora: All the other fairies fly, why don't you?
- Maleficent: I had wings once, and they were strong. But they were stolen from me.
- Princess Aurora: Do all the Fair People have wings?
- Maleficent: Most do.
- Princess Aurora: Then why don't you? All the other fairies fly.
- Maleficent: I did, but they were stolen from me. That's all I wish to say about it.
- Princess Aurora: What color were they? Were they big?
- Maleficent: So big they dragged behind me when I walked. And they were strong. They could carry me above the clouds and into the headwinds. And they never faltered, not even once. I could trust them.
- [last lines]
- Narrator: So you see, the story is not quite as you were told, and I should know, for I was the one they called "Sleeping Beauty". In the end, my kingdom was united not by a hero or a villain, as legend had predicted, but by one who was both hero *and* villain. And her name was Maleficent.
- [Rehearsing her 'goodbye speech' to her "Aunties"]
- Princess Aurora: You've been very good to me... well, except that time you fed me spiders.
- [Maleficent is magically healing damaged trees in the woods]
- Aurora: Hello.
- [Maleficent turns around to see a smiling toddler Aurora]
- Maleficent: Go away.
- [Aurora walks closer to Maleficent]
- Maleficent: Go. Go away.
- [Aurora hugs Maleficent]
- Maleficent: I don't like children.
- [first lines]
- Narrator: Let us tell an old story anew, and we will see how well you know it. Once upon a time, there were two kingdoms that were the worst of neighbors. So vast was the discord between them that it was said only a great hero or a terrible villain might bring them together. In one kingdom lived folk like you and me, with a vain and greedy king to rule over them. They were forever discontent, and envious of the wealth and beauty of their neighbors. For in the other kingdom, the Moors, lived every manner of strange and wonderful creature. And they needed neither king nor queen, but trusted in one another. In a great tree on a great cliff in the Moors lived one such spirit. You might take her for a girl, but she was not just any girl. She was a fairy. And her name was Maleficent.
- [while pulling a prank on the fairies by creating a rainstorm inside their cottage]
- [Diaval looks at her]
- Maleficent: Oh, come on! That's funny.
